ROCHESTER Eleanor K. Chain, 85, Ohio Street, Rochester, died at 5:10 a.m. Sunday, March
22, at Waterford Place Health Care in Kokomo.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Arnett, Rochester, son, Dennis Chain, Roswell, N.M., eight
grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, sisters Dorothy and husband Preston Landry, Colorado
Springs, Colo., Caroll M. Pearson, Oconto, Wisc., and brother Willard E. and wife Betty Guillory,
Hammond, La.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday March 24, at Burr Oak cemetery,
Culver, with the Rev. Junior Bose officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney
Foundation. Arrangements by Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.
Edwin Eugene Curtis
NILES, Mich. Edwin Eugene Curtis, 85, of Niles, Mich., formerly of the Bremen area, died
Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Cass County Medical Care Facility.
He is survived by Donna Ferrara of Haslet, N.J., Shirley LeStrange of Ossian; and several
nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are Wednesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. at the Bremen cemetery Chapel with
military rites.
The Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, is in charge of the arrangements.
Nichole Ann Hochstetler
NAPPANEE Nichole Ann Hochstetler, 19, of Nappanee, died at 7:03 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2009.
She is survived by parents, Lyle and Karen Hochstetler of Nappanee; sisters: Kayleen Ellen
Hochstetler and Diane Ranae Hochstetler, both at home; brothers: Joseph Dean Hochstetler,
James Lynn Hochstetler and Jacob Eugene Hochstetler, all at home; and grandparents: Emery
and Pauline Yoder of Nappanee and John Henry and Mary Ellen Hochstetler of Middlebury.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 24 and all day Wednesday at the family residence,
29172 CR 52, Nappanee. Services are Thursday, March 26 at 9:30 a.m. at the Wilson Yoder
residence, 29607 CR 52. Burial will be at the Weldy cemetery.

Margaret Helen Mattern
BREMEN Margaret Helen Mattern, 86, of Bremen, died Sunday, March 22, 2009 at
Community Hospital of Bremen.
She was born Nov. 14, 1922 in Illinois to Alfred and Magnalena (Brick) Specht. She was formerly
of Crown Point, Ind. And moved back to the family farm in Bremen in 1956.
Margaret married
Theodore Mattern, who preceded her, June 8, 1998. She was a homemaker
and a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church for more than 50 years.
She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She also liked reading and
crocheting and helping Theodore on the farm. They were married
50 years.
She is survived by daughters: Nancy (Skip) Sherk of Bremen and Jo Mattern of New York City; a
sister, Dorothy (Fred) Slovinsky of Wisc. And brother, Joe Specht of Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 24, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home,
2030 State Road 331, Bremen.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
Memorials may be made to the Bremen Food Pantry or the Community Hospital of Bremen.
Margaret Elizabeth Washburn
BREMEN Margaret Elizabeth Washburn, 97, of Bremen, died Sunday, March 22, 2009 at
Bremen Health Care Center.
She is survived by daughters: Dori (Neil) Montague of Bremen and Margie (Don) VanGilder of
Ft. Wayne; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, with
visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Bremen cemetery.

Gertrude E. Leslie
Gertrude E. Leslie, 84, Logansport, passed away at 10 p.m. Monday at her residence.
She was born March 4, 1925, in Detroit, Mich., to William Frederick and Avelena (Moses)
Deacon. On May 17, 1967, in Niles, Mich., she was married
to Emerson C. "Mike" Leslie, who
preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 2008.
Gert had been a receptionist for numerous local doctors' offices.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a member of the ECW at the church. She
enjoyed playing bridge with the local group of ladies as well as playing cards and games with her
grandchildren. Gert and Mike had also enjoyed camping and square dancing.
Survivors include two daughters, Gayle Griffith, Atlanta, Ga., and Dayle Maggart and her
companion, Harold Heck, Huntertown; one son, Rick Wilson, Knoxville, Tenn.; three stepsons,
Roger (Joyce) Leslie, Charles (Linda) Leslie, and Keith Leslie and his companion, Diane
Campbell, all of Logansport; one brother, Ray Morgan, Lavonia, Mich.; one sister, Lorraine
Bergman, Lavonia, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church with Father Theodore
Neidlinger officiating. Burial will be at Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8
p.m. today at Kroeger Funeral Home, 711 E. Market St., Logansport. Memorial contributions
may be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church.
Avenell Reatherford
CULVER Avenell Reatherford, 86, of Culver, died Monday, March 23, 2009 in Culver.
She is survived by son, Charles Reatherford of Culver; daughter, Linda Campbell of Ottawa, Ill.;
sister, Maxine Barker of New Port Richey, Fla.; and one grandson.
Graveside services will be held Friday, March 27 at 1 p.m. at Eagle Creek cemetery.

Sarah F. Haldeman Miller, 85, of North Manchester, formerly of Rochester, died at 11 p.m.
Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Parkview - Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.
She is survived by a sister, Dolores Sriver of North Manchester; brother, Howard H. (Shirley)
Haldeman of Eden, Utah; two nieces; and two nephews.
Visitation is Friday, March 27 from 4 to 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the
Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester. The Kappa Delta Phi Sorority will conduct a memorial
service Friday at 7 p.m. Services are Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial
will be at the Rochester IOOF cemetery.

KNOX Delores D. Beauchamp, 76, of Knox, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009.

Marjorie Mae Bope
BREMEN Marjorie Mae Bope, 74, of Bremen, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Community Hospital of Bremen.
She is survived by sons: Edward (Linda) Bope of LaPaz, Jim Bope of Bremen and Lonnie (Pam)
Bope of Nappanee; daughter, Tonya (Ben Robbins) of Warsaw; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter
on the way; and sister-in-law, Carol Heckaman.
Visitation is Friday, March 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bremen Missionary Church. Services are
Saturday, March 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Bremen cemetery.

Richard Allen Hollar
ARGOS Richard Allen Hollar, 73, of Argos, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 10 a.m. at
Life Care Center of Rochester following a three-week illness. He was born Aug. 10, 1935 in
Argos to John and Helen (Watkins) Hollar. On Dec. 24, 1981 in Marshall County, he married
Delores (Rude) Hollar.
Living all of his life in the Argos community, Richard attended Argos High School. He worked at
Bendix Brakes of South Bend, where he retired in 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Delores Hollar; three daughters: Rose (John) Archambeault of Argos,
Tena Flynn of Rochester and Sharon Turner of Argos; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren;
five brothers: Lowell Hollar of Argos, Harvey (Connie) Hollar of South Bend,
William Bill Hollar of Argos, James (Karen) Hollar of Argos and Carl (Clair) Hollar of Argos; and
one sister, Melbea (Kenny) Hammond of Argos.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Donna Jean Treber; and great granddaughter,
Emily Treber.
Friends may visit with the family Friday, March 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman Funeral
Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28 at the funeral
home with Jim Treber officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery, Argos.

James Alan MacTavish
THREE RIVERS, Mich. James Alan MacTavish, 36, of Three Rivers, Mich., died Wednesday,
March 25, 2009 at his parents home.
He is survived by his sons: Drake and Gage MacTavish of Covington, Ga. and James A.
MacTavish of Three Rivers, Mich.; parents, James L. and Cora MacTavish; brothers: Tom (Lori)
Hagerman of Palmer, Mich. and Jesse MacTavish of Three Rivers, Mich.; sisters: Elizabeth
(Mike) Baker of White Sulphur Springs, W.V., Heidi (James) Griffin of Fairfax, Va., Emilie
(Steve) Curtis of Three Rivers, Mich. and Kristine (Kurt) Webb of Three Rivers, Mich.; and his
biological father, Robert (Marcia) Hagerman of Galesburg, Mich.
Visitation was Saturday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson
Chapel, Three Rivers where services were held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment
followed in Riverside cemetery, Three Rivers.
Memorials are being directed to Scidmore Park in Three Rivers.
Arthur E. Wilcox
PLYMOUTH Arthur E. Wilcox, 70, of 1126 Warana Drive, Plymouth, passed away at his
home surrounded by his family, at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009, following a courageous
battle with cancer since the year of 2002.
Art was born Jan. 28, 1939, in Marshall County, Indiana, to Chester and Leona (Masterson)
Wilcox. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He had been employed at
PiRod, Inc., in Plymouth, for 38 years. On Dec. 26, 1973, he and Linda K. Wade were married
.
He was a member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge #741.
Art is survived by his loving wife, Linda Wilcox of Plymouth; their children: Cindy Spence of
Plymouth, David Wilcox of Plymouth, John Milton (and his significant other) Brandi Givens of
Plymouth, Amber and Jeremy Daley of Argos, Indiana, and Stefanie Wilcox at home; nine
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his brother, Edward (Shirley) Wilcox of Argos. Art
was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Leona Wilcox.
Funeral services for Art will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at the VAN GILDER
FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Denise Anderson officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill
cemetery, Plymouth.
A time of visiting with the Wilcox family, will be Monday, March 30, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. and
Tuesday, March 31, 2009, from noon to 2 p.m., at the VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300
West Madison St., Plymouth, IN, 46563.
