Brian L. Johnson
Brian L. Johnson, 40, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of LaPorte, passed away Thursday, March 12,
2009 at the Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, Fla. after a lengthy illness. He was
born May 26, 1968 in Elkhart to Larry D. and Judith A. (Seidner) Johnson.
Surviving are his mother, Judith A. Johnson and one brother, Randal D. (Toni) Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandmother and grandfather Seidner; and grandfather
Johnson.
He was a very skillful craftsman, loved to travel, was a sailor and enjoyed all water sports. He
loved being with his family and his dog, Charlie. He took pride in everything he did. He attended
Nappanee Elementary School before moving to LaPorte. After graduating from LaPorte High
School, he received his associate degree in business and later received his electronic certificate
working as a technician.
Cremation took place in Clearwater, Fla. And private family services will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer or Heart Association.
Paul McGaughey
ROCHESTER — Paul McGaughey, 66, of Rochester, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Silver
Cross Hospital in Joliet, Ill.
He is survived by his wife, Donna at home; his mother, Grace of Lexington, Ky.; daughter, Tina
(Robert) Haworth; sons: Kyle McGaughey of Rochester; Todd (Jane) McGaughey of Walkerton;
Kevin (Phoebe) McGaughey of Knox and Brian (Kelly) McGaughey of LaPorte; seven
grandchildren; sisters: Sue (Dr. Dan) Lambert of Columbus, Ohio and Brenda (Mark) Gutzman
of Lexington, Ky.; mother-in-law, Eileen Frey of Logansport; sister-in-law, Debbie Frey of
Logansport; and brother-in-law, Randy (Patti) Frey of Indianapolis.
Services will be at noon Sunday, March 15 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St.
Rochester. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 14 and one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be made in his name to Camp We Can.
Robert Milton Newberg
ENID, Okla. — A funeral service for Robert Milton Newberg, 61, of Enid, Okla. will be held at 2
p.m. Friday March 13, 2009 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Kenneth Wade officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park cemetery, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral
Home. A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Robert was born to Milton Oscar and Dorothy Marie (Piper) Newberg in Plymouth on April 12,
1947, and died on Monday, March 9, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Robert graduated in 1965 from West Township High School in Plymouth, and attended Greer
College until 1966. On March 12, 1966 he married
Theresa Ann Battles in Chicago, Ill. On July
28, 1966 he entered the United States Air Force, and served until July 27, 1970. While he was
in the Air Force he learned his trade of Mechanical Contractor. They lived in Wichita, Kan. until
April 1974 when they moved to Enid, where he pursued his career in Mechanical Refrigeration,
working for Dense Mechanical and Luckinbill, Inc. In 1988 he started Newberg Mechanical which
he owned and operated till 2006. He currently was employed by NOC in Tonkawa. Robert was a
retired member of the local 344 Plumbers and Pipefitters, and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church where he served on the property committee. Robert enjoyed racing, working on
automobiles, hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Robert will be deeply
missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Theresa of the home; two daughters: Jeanette Hutchison of Yukon,
and Robin Unruh of Enid; one son, Robert Newberg II and wife Jo of Enid; six grandchildren:
Brooke Lynn Hutchison, Brandi Nicole Hutchison, Bethany Marie Hutchison, Andrew Thomas
Unruh, Megan Lynn Carson, and Robert Milton Newberg III; his mother, Dorothy Reaker of
Plymouth; one brother, Richard Arthur Newberg of Plymouth; two sisters: Alice M. Ruff of
Plymouth and Edna E. Miller of East Lansing, Mich.; 13 nieces and nephews; and 12 great nieces
and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his father Milton Newberg; and two brothers: Victor Newberg
and Jon Newberg.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Cimarron Valley Chapter of the American
Red Cross.
Helen F. Meeker
SEBRING, Fla. — Helen F. Meeker, 88, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Plymouth, died Friday,
March 13.
She is survived by her son, Richard S. Meeker of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; a daughter, Diana Neel of
Sebring; and sister, Marian Hileman of Plymouth; along with six grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren.
Memorial services were held in Sebring.
A graveside service and celebration luncheon is being planned for May 22 in Plymouth.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Plymouth, or Habitat
for Humanity.

Lillian N. Rodgers
KNOX — Lillian N. Rodgers, 93, of Knox, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 in her home.
Mrs. Rodgers was born Dec. 24, 1915 in Aldine, Ind. to Edward and Nellie (Kaluf) Nulf and lived
in the area all of her life. On March 7, 1946 in Knox, she was married
to Donald Rodgers who
preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons: D.
David and Guy Rodgers; two brothers: David and Paul Nulf; and two grandchildren: Brett and
Dana Rodgers.
Survivors include: one son, Leslie Rodgers of Knox; one daughter, Lauralee (Audie) Gates of
Knox; one brother, Clarence Nulf of LaPorte; 15 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rodgers was a tax preparation accountant for Rodgers Tax Service. She was the first
woman on the Knox Community School Board, the first woman on the Starke County Election
Board, serving many years, the Secretary for Mutual Agents Association of Indiana, Precinct
Committeewoman for Washington Township and was a member of Eagle Creek Church of
Knox, where she taught Sunday School.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. (Central Time) at Eagle Creek Church of Knox.
Burial will be in the Eagle Creek cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. CST at the
church and Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Mission for Haiti, through the church.

Georgia Tunnat
NAPPANEE — Georgia Tunnat, 49, of Nappanee, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at home.
She is survived by daughters: Melissa Cheney of Lexington, Ky. And Sarah Tunnat at home;
sister, Hazel McIntosh of Jackson, Ky.; and brother, Ruben “Ruby” Noble of Jackson, Ky.
Visitation is Tuesday, March 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Services
are Wednesday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Bremen cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family toward funeral services.
Liene E. Zuments
PLYMOUTH — Liene E. Zuments, 98, of Oakhill Avenue, Plymouth, Ind. died Friday, March 13,
2009 at 7:30 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, following a sudden illness.
She is survived by a grandson and two great, grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Weston cemetery,
Weston, Ohio.
Burial will follow at the cemetery.
Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos, is in charge of arrangements.
Whitey T.G. Culp
SOUTH BEND – Whitey T. G. Culp, 32, a resident of Terre Haute the past five years, passed
away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, March 14, 2009. He was a former resident of South
Bend and Mishawaka.
Whitey was born in Fulda (Hesson County) Germany on July 12, 1976 the son of Frederick L.
and Christine E. (Smith) Culp.
Family was most important to Whitey and they knew him to have all the traits of a big bear. He
was a carpenter in the building trades.
He is survived by his mother; Christine E. Culp of South Bend, a son; Whitey Frederick Dakota
Culp of Valparaiso, three sisters; Carey A. (John P.) Weir of Plymouth, Denise A. Culp of
Mishawaka and Ashley A. Culp of South Bend along with two nephews and a niece.
His father preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth where services will follow at 7 p.m. with Roberta
Norris as the celebrant.
Memorial gifts may be made to the family.
John A. Fisher
NAPPANEE — John A. Fisher, 64, of east Market Street, Nappanee, died Saturday, March 14,
2009 at 9:20 p.m. at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Stutzman; four daughters: Michelle Kae (Kevin) VanderMolin of
Melbourne, Fla., Rosanna (Donald) Butler of Goshen, Lisa Rene Fisher of Goshen and Loralie
Dawn (Steve) Baxter of Bourbon; three sons: Jerry Albert (Shari) Fisher of Elkhart, Edward J.
Fisher of Goshen and Scott Eugene Fisher of Nappanee; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren;
sisters: Georgia Jacquelin Zinkiew, Beverly (Fred) Johnson and Sallee Black, all
of Nappanee; three brothers: Randy (Sharon) Fisher of Nappanee, Reggie (Denise) Fisher of
Elkhart and Denny (Beth) Fisher of Nappanee.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 18 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher
& Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at South Union cemetery.

Walter L. Harley
CULVER — Walter L. Harley, 92, of Maple Street, Argos, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 5:40
a.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor of Culver, Ind. after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 20, 1916 in Argos, to Wilfred and Ruth (Whisman) Harley. He lived all of his
life in the Argos community.
He married
Anna Louise Reed, who preceded Dec. 12, 1992, May 10, 1939 in Argos, Ind. He
was a self-employed carpenter
On Dec. 23, 1943 Harley was called to serve his country in the United States Army. Serving with
the 89th Division, Company A, 314th Medical Battalion, he was awarded two Bronze Stars. He
was Honorably Discharged Dec. 28, 1945 and returned to Argos.
He was a member of the James Lowell Corey, American Legion Post #68, Argos, Ind. and the
V.F.W. #1162, Plymouth. He was involved with the Isaac Walton League of Marshall County. He
enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing pool.
He is survived by three sons: W. Lynn Harley and wife Barbara of Argos, Ind., John R. Harley
and wife Rene of South Bend, Ind. and Frank A. Harley and wife Georgia of Argos, Ind.; seven
grandchildren: Tom Harley and wife Diana of Plymouth, Mike Harley and wife Kelly of Ft. Wayne,
Teri Sabanski and husband Mike of Argos, Jodi McCormick and husband Rich of South Bend,
Jackie Harrah and husband Bob of South Bend, and Brian and Brad Snyder of Argos; and 12
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Forrest and Wilmer Harley.
Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, March 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman
Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday March 18, at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Rice of the Walnut Church of the Brethren officiating.
Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery, Argos.

LAPAZ — Bonnie L. Porter, 61, of LaPaz, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at her home.
She is survived by her three daughters: Michelle (Mike) Ashley of Indianapolis, Nicole (Anthony Biggs) Downey of South Bend and Nanette Lanham of Lapaz; four granddaughters; four sisters: Dian Hershberger of Union, Mich., Becky Leininger of LaPaz, Carol Dove of Plymouth and Gwen McGrath of Slidell, La.; and three brothers: Jerry Hummel of Walkerton, Rex Hummel of LaPaz and Wes Hummel of Bremen.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 17, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the funeral home.
