Marjorie A. Mapes, Newtown
Marjorie Ann (Brown) Mapes, 77, formerly of Newtown and had been residing at 3923 Corinthian St., Lafayette, died in the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette, on Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at 2:49 a.m.
Marjorie was born in Lakeview Hospital in Danville, Illinois, on February 27, 1928. She was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude Hill Brown. On January 29, 1950, Marjorie married Herschel E. Mapes in the Newtown United Methodist Church.
Marjorie graduated from Richland Township High School in 1946. She attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lafayette, graduating in 1949. She later attended Purdue University where she received her license to teach Vocational High School Health Careers. She taught home nursing and later vocational high school health careers at Fountain Central, Covington and Crawfordsville school systems. Mrs. Mapes had formerly worked as a nurse of First Aid at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica. She retired from St. Elizabeth Hospital and teaching in 1993. She had served on the advisory board at Ivy Tech.
Marjorie was a board member of the Fountain-Warren Counties Health Department; member of the Newtown Community Church; Member and Past Worthy Matron of the Fern Chapter # 194 Order of the Eastern Star; Grand Representative of the Order of the Eastern Star to the British Columbia and Yukon at Vancouver, Canada from the State of Indiana; member and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Quigle-Palin American Legion Post # 394; Fountain County Home Economics Club; Indiana Retired Teachers Association; Delta Kappa Gamma National sorority of teachers.
Surviving are her husband, Herschel, of Lafayette; three sons, Roger (wife-Peggy) Mapes, Connersville, IN; Ross Mapes, Seymour, IN; Kenneth (wife-Julia) Mapes, Lafayette; a daughter, Janice (husband-David) Plish, Langhorne, PA; six grandchildren, Greg (wife-Heather), Amanda, Andrew, James, Patrick and Scott; two step great grandchildren, Carissa and Brice. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Brown.
Visitation: Maus Funeral Home, Attica, Friday, Sept. 9th, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with O.E.S. Memorial Service on Friday, at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services: Newtown Community Church, Saturday, Sept. 10th, at 2:00 p.m. with one hour of visitation preceding. Pastor Mike Parks will be officiating. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown, IN.

Elizabeth (Fay) McCullough, Terre Haute
Elizabeth (Fay) McCullough, 78, 321 Gardendale Road, Terre Haute, died in the Meadows Manor East, Terre Haute, on Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at 4:05 p.m.
Elizabeth was born in Fountain County, Indiana, on October 6, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth Benson Fay. She grew up in the Independence area, graduating from Crawfordsville High School in 1944. She graduated from Home Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. Elizabeth has lived in Terre Haute since 1974.
On August 10, 1947, Elizabeth married Donald F. McCullough in the E.U.B. Church in Independence. He survives.
Mrs. McCullough worked as a registered nurse at DePauw University and the Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle. She also worked as the plant nurse for Muellers in Decatur, IL for many years.
Elizabeth was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Terre Haute and was active in the United Methodist Women. She had attended the Montrose United Methodist Church and the Grace United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Florence Nightingale Club in Terre Haute. She was active in the PTA when her children were younger.
Surviving are two daughters, Connie (husband-Alan) Goodman, Linton, IN; Cindy (husband-Lyle) Masters, Stanford, IL; two sons, Pat (wife-Diane) McCullough, Niles, MI; Scott (wife-Lynda) McCullough, Terre Haute, IN; eleven grandchildren, Zach and Amy Goodman, Linton, IN; Molly (husband-Chris) Alexander, Mount Prospect, IL; Joe Skelley, Tumwater, WA; Natalie Chambers, Stanford, IL; Katie Chambers, Bloomington, IL; Alisa (husband-John) Bryant, Cassopolis, MI; Tyler and Evan McCullough, Niles, MI; Matt (wife-Kristy) and Stephanie McCullough, Terre Haute; six great grandchildren, Cameron and Drew Alexander, Mount Prospect, IL; Daimon and Emily Cavinder, Cassopolis, MI; Chase Bryant, Cassopolis, MI; Dylan Barnett, Terre Haute, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Sunday, September 11th, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Cyndi Alte officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions are preferred to Riverview United Methodist in Attica, IN 47918, or the Memorial United Methodist Church in Terre Haute, 2701 Poplar St., Terre Haute, IN 47803

Noel E. Willhite, Waynetown - Noel Eugene Willhite, 81, of 301 W. Washington St., Waynetown, died at 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at the Health South Hospital in Terre Haute.
Noel was born near Mellott on July 7, 1924. He was the son of the late Edgar Hall and Daisy L. (Mitchell) Willhite. He was raised in Mellott and graduated from Richland Township High School in 1942. He has resided in Waynetown since 1950.
Noel worked in shipping and receiving at Ingress Plastene in Crawfordsville for over 30 years. He retired on August 1, 1986. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He saw action at the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of the bronze star.
Noel married Helen Maxine Keller on April 15, 1945 in the Wesley M.E. Church east of Waynetown. She preceded him in death on March 19, 1992
Noel was a member of the Waynetown Christian Church where he had served as a deacon, elder, young adult Sunday School teacher and former youth leader. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling. He was an avid card player and Purdue fan.
Survivors include a son, Greg (wife-Nancy) Willhite of Wingate; a brother, Leon (wife-Edna) Willhite of Clinton, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jeff (wife-Shanna) Willhite and Chris (wife-Michelle) Jesse; and four great grandchildren, Amber Jesse, Stevie Jesse, Tiffany Willhite and Kaylee Willhite. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Jean Jesse; an infant son, Ronald Eugene Willhite; three brothers, John Kenneth and twins Dale Lloyd and Gale Floyd; and two sisters, Melba Ziegler and Moyna Willhite.
Services will be held at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, on Saturday, October 29, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Christopher Lawler officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in Willhite Cemetery, south of Wingate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynetown Christian Church.

Hazel Christine (Carr) Hutts, Attica
Hazel Christine (Carr) Hutts, 63, 104 E. Vine St., Attica, died in the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, on Monday, October 24, 2005, at 8:46 a.m. She had been in failing health for the past year.
Hazel was born in Veedersburg, Indiana, on November 6, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Troy Russell and Mattie Groves Carr. She was raised in Sterling and attended Veedersburg school. She has lived in Attica most of her adult life.
She formerly worked at Purdue University in the 1960's and during the 1970's until her retirement in 1995, worked at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica.
On April 2, 1959, Hazel married Teddy Thomas Hutts in Attica. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1995.
Surviving are two sons, Gerald Hutts and Larry Carr, both of Attica; two brothers, Leon Carr, Remington, IN and David (wife-Gerald Dean) Carr, Kramer; two sisters, Alice (husband-Harold) Ridge, Waynetown; Helen Pollock, Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, Candi, Cassie, Carrie, Travis, Christine, Tamara and Leslie; 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Lucy Rahm, Judy Pickett, Patricia Hyland and Dorothy Oxley; three brothers, Donald, Marx and Eugene Carr.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Thursday, Oct. 27th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Fri. Oct. 28th, at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the Rockfield Cemetery, Veedersburg.

Thomas Samuel Ivey, Veedersburg
Thomas Samuel “Sam” Ivey, 80, Veedersburg, died in the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette, on Sunday, October 23, 2005, at 3:25 a.m. He had been in failing health.
Sam was born in Decatur County, Georgia, on March 29, 1925. He was the son of the late George Chesterfield and Fannie Mae Sharber Ivey. He was raised in Spring Creek, GA, and attended school in Decatur County, GA. He had lived for several years in the Romney area and for the past eight years lived in Veedersburg.
Sam worked as a drill press operator at Ross-Gear in Lafayette. He retired from Ross-Gear in May of 1971.
Sam was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post # 3318 and a member of the American Legion Post # 52 both of Attica. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge # 2596 of Attica. He enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was first married to Iva Ann “Bernice” Millburg on March 26, 1946 in Bainbridge, GA. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1985. On February 29, 1996, Sam married Barbara A. (Shoaf) Payne in Lafayette. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda (husband-Ed) Reeves, Attica; Joyce (husband-Robert) Pedigo, Romney; a son, Mark T. Ivey, Lafayette; a step son, John Felix, Newtown; a step daughter, Tammy (husband-Dale) Riley, Lafayette; a brother, Paul (wife-Joan) Ivey, Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mike Pedigo, three sisters and five brothers.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Wednesday, Oct. 26th, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 27th, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Onia Leon Shoaf, Newtown
Onia Leon Shoaf, 81, Newtown, died in the VA Illiana Healthcare Center, Danville, IL, on Friday, October 21, 2005, at 1:35 p.m.
Onia was born in Mecca, in Parke County, Indiana, on August 14, 1924. He was the son of the late William Nelson and Bertha Ethel Tyler Shoaf. He was raised in Parke County and had resided in Newtown for many years.
Onia retired from Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica, where he worked as a steel worker. He also served as caretaker for many cemeteries in the Newtown area.
Onia was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 3318 of Attica.
Surviving are two sons, Onia L. (wife-Mary) Shoaf, Crawfordsville; Oscar (wife-Jodie) Shoaf, Delphi; five daughters, Carolyn Young, Crawfordsville; Marilyn Easterling, Crawfordsville; Charlene Bellmore, Paoli, IN; Charlotte of Florida and Patricia Shumaker, Florida; two sisters, Helen L. Eller, Hillsboro and Margaret Ann Neal, Evansville. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren survive.
There will be no public services for Mr. Shoaf as his request was to have direct cremation.

Dorothy Marie (Self) Jahnke, Hillsboro
Dorothy Marie (Self) Jahnke, 91, formerly of Hillsboro, died at 6:22 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2007 at Hickory Creek at Crawfordsville.
Dorothy was born on January 25, 1915, in Advance. She was the daughter of the late Earl and Lillie May (Wiseman) Self. She was a 1934 graduate of Darlington High School. She had lived in Hillsboro for 61 years.
Dorothy was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church. She had worked in the Cafeteria at Hillsboro High School.
Dorothy married Ernest P. Jahnke on October 17, 1937 in Darlington. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1976.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly (husband-Dale) Keeling of Veedersburg; a son, Larry (wife-Shirley) Jahnke of Corpus Christi, TX; a brother, Jack Self of Crawfordsville; three sisters, Ada Pickerling, Virginia Anglin and Flossie Tonda, all of Sarasota, FL; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence and Kathren.
Friends may call at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church on Monday, January 8, from 10:00 -11:30 a.m. A gravesite service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro, on Monday at 12:00 noon with Pastor Dorman Winger officiating. Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro will be handling the arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillsboro United Methodist Church.
