ELKHART — Jean Ellen Buss, 86, of Elkhart, died at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at home.
She is survived by her husband, Ward; daughter, Deborah J. Buss of Limon, Colo.; sons: Gary
L. (Becky) Buss of Elkhart and Steven R. (Sue) Buss of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; and 14
grandchildren.
Visitation is Friday, Jan. 30 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, Wakarusa. Funeral services are Saturday, Jan. 31 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral
home. Burial will be at Hope Mausoleum, Rice cemetery, Elkhart.
Memorials may be made to Jimtown Historical Museum, Jamestown United Methodist Church or
Elkhart County Humane Society.
Justin Fretz
BREMEN — Justin Fretz, 17, of Bremen, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 in Bremen.
Survivors include his mother, Regina Fretz of Bremen; his father, Jeff Fretz of Bremen; sister,
Nicole (fiancé Jason) Fretz of Bremen; paternal grandmother: Phyllis (Gary) Beane of
Rochester; paternal grandfather, Larry (Carolyn) Fretz of Etna Green; maternal grandmother,
Thelma Quesenberry of Bremen; and maternal great-grandmother, Goldie Clark of Bremen.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 605 S. Center
St., Bremen. Burial will take place at Bremen cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday,
Jan. 30 at the Bremen High School Auditorium on Grant Street.
Memorial contributions can be made to the family of Justin Fretz.

Syble M. (Walker) Lawton
Syble M. (Walker) Lawton, 73, was born Dec. 7, 1935 and married
James Lawton Jan. 26, 1957.
Together they had five children: Jackie (Tony) Sell of Bourbon, Jo (Ron) Faulkner of Warsaw,
Barbara (Eugene) Bishop of Dyersburg, Tenn., Jim (Gwen) Lawton of New Port Richey, Fla. and
Paul (Noelle) Lawton of Mankato, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She
is also survived by her siblings: Quenton (Kathryn) Walker, Wendell (Joy) Walker, Donald Travis
(Corrine) Walker and Jan (Jere) Tucker and leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Syble was preceded in death by her father and her mother, Wes and Grace Walker.
She was a devoted wife and mother, a Chicago area resident since 1952, and a faithful member
of the United Pentecostal Church of Harvey. She lived her life with a spirit of kindness and
gentleness and love.
Funeral services and burial will be held in Dyersburg Tenn. Arrangements made by Hann
Funeral Home, Bridgeview, Ill.
Virginia Lee McIntyre Fisher
CULVER — Virginia Lee McIntyre Fisher, 86, of Culver, passed away Jan. 28, 2009 at 9:30 p.m.
while in residence at Miller's Merry Manor, Culver.
Virginia was born in her family home in Logansport on May 1, 1922. She was raised in
Logansport and spent her summers on Lake Maxinkuckee. Her grandmother was among the
first settlers of the north end of Long Point. Virginia attended Purdue for a year and went on to
study window display at the Chicago Art Institute. She married
Richard L. Fisher in 1943 and
they had five daughters. Virginia was a charter member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in
Carmel. She ran the Episcopal Food Bank in downtown Indianapolis for 10 years. Later after
making their permanent residence on the South Shore of Lake Maxinkuckee she was
instrumental in establishing St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church in Culver. Virginia's love of the lake
led to the formation of the Antiquarian and Historical Society. Her dream of creating a Culver
Town Park was realized when Heritage Park was established.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Fisher of Culver; daughters: Pamela Fisher of Culver,
Priscilla Fisher (George) of Naples, Fla. and Jennifer Fisher Shea (Jamie) of Culver;
grandchildren: Nicki Birrell Jentgen (Phil), George Birrell, James Fisher Shea, David Lingle; and
two great-grandchildren: Emily Jane Jentgen and Devon Lingle.
She was preceded in death by two daughters: Jenny Lee Fisher, in infancy, and Melissa Fisher
Birrell.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Culver Academy Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church,
515 State St., Culver, IN 46511.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements.
Jerry J. Reed
ROCHESTER — Jerry J. Reed, 74, of Rochester, died at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 at home.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie; daughters: Kim Sheehy of Rochester and Brenda (Kurt) Ponto
of Akron; and four grandchildren.
Visitation is Saturday, Jan. 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Good Family Funeral Home,
Rochester. Funeral services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the
Rochester IOOF cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County.
Larry Shortt
WALKERTON — Larry Shortt, 65, of Walkerton, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 in South Bend.
He was born May 26, 1943 in Blough, Pa., Son of the late Leo and Goldie (Ringler) Shortt.
Larry was very proud of his service in the United States Navy for 10 years. Being a grandfather
played a large part in his life.
Surviving are two sons: Patrick (Jennifer) Shortt of Walkerton and Jason (Nickie) Shortt of
Plymouth; six grandchildren: Benjamin, Victoria, Alyssa, Cristina, Olivia and Lucas Shortt; three
sisters: Phyllis Comeno of LaPorte, Jean (Paul) Lohr of Pennsylvania and Maxine Manges of
Rolling Prairie; three brothers: Joseph Shortt of Bull Head City, Ariz., David (Ruth) Shortt of
Plymouth and Jerry (Virginia) Shortt of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (CST) Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at the Cutler
Funeral Home, LaPorte.
Services will be held at Cutler Funeral Home, Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009 at 1 p.m. (CST) with Rev.
Hugh Smith officiating.
Interment will follow in the Rolling Prairie cemetery with full military honors.

OSCEOLA — Donald Aukerman, 73, of Osceola, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Aukerman of Osceola; two sons: Matthew (Caryl) Aukerman
of Albania and Mark (Sheila) Aukerman of Wakarusa; a daughter, Suzanne (Tien) Do of
Indianapolis; eight grandchildren; six sisters: Betty (Morris) Briggs of Goshen, Pauline (Floyd)
Fulmer of Mishawaka, Lois (Dean) Farrer of Bremen, Jean (Harold) Stillson of Ala., Doris (Carl)
Jones of Edwardsburg, Mich. and Carolyn (Glen) Kile of Bremen; three brothers: Dale (Lucinda)
Aukerman of South Bend, John Aukerman of Wakarusa and Ronald (Penny) Aukerman of Bremen.
Visitation was Monday, Feb. 2, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd.
331, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Bremen cemetery.

KNOX — Emily M. Dotson, 17, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 in her home.
She is survived by her mother, Kimberly (Roger) Campbell of Ashville, N.C.: sisters: Sandi
Dotson and Rebecca Campbell, both of Ashville; her grandmother, Linda (Ken) Flores-Eagle of
Knox and brother, Ken Flores Jr. of Knox.
Funeral services will be Monday at the Groce Funeral Home in Ashville.
Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel handled local arrangements.
Anetta M. Johnson
WABASH — Annetta M. Johnson, 96, of Wabash died at 4 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at her home.
She is survived by four sons: Lloyd (Janet) Johnson of South Bend, Frank Johnson, Garrah
(Patricia) Johnson and William (Marcia) Johnson all of Wabash; five daughters: Rev. Thomas
(Lela) Neff of McConnelsville, Ohio, Mrs. Margaret Dobbs of Destin, Fla., Mrs. Harriet Sloop of
Elkhart, June Johnson and Mrs. Tommy (Melba) Custer both of Wabash; 13 grandchildren, 26
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2 at McDonald Funeral Home, Eddingfield Chapel 231
Falls Ave., Wabash. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant cemetery in Wabash County. Visitation
was from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home.

Kathleen S. Sults
ARGOS — Kathleen "Kathy" S. Stults, 59 of Gumwood Road, Argos, Ind. died Friday, Jan. 30,
2009 at 3:20 a.m. at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, following a three-year illness.
Kathy was born June 26, 1949 in Argos, to William H. and Donna Belle M. (Stouder) Blackford
and went on to livedall of her life in the Argos and Marshall County community.
She and David L. Stults were married
Oct. 8, 1967 in Tippecanoe, Ind. She was a branch
manager at 1st Source Bank, (Argos branch). She had worked at the bank for 35 years.
She was a member of the Tippecanoe Community Church, Tippecanoe, Ind.; served on the
Advisory Board for Walnut Township; was active with the “Old Gold Club” and the Green-Walnut
Buyers Group; was active with Green-Walnut Young Farmers 4-H club. She was a graduate of
Argos High School class of 1967, and she then attended the Career Academy in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin.
She is survived by her husband, David L. Stults of Argos, Ind.; three children: David L. Stults Jr.
and wife Jennifer of Argos, Ind.; Gayla R. Burger and husband Mark of Bremen, Ind. and Eric W.
Stults and wife Stephanie of Middlebury, Ind.: six grandchildren: Samantha and Jessica Stults of
Argos; Blake and Haley Burger of Bremen and Madeline and Luke Stults of Middlebury, Ind.: her
mother, Donna Belle Blackford of Argos, Ind.; a sister, Colleen Halter and husband Barry of
Rolling Prairie, Ind.; four brothers: Joe Blackford and wife Pam of Hebron, Ind., Steve Blackford
and wife Kathy of Tippecanoe, Ind., Ken Blackford and wife Tina of Tippecanoe, Ind. and Bill
Blackford and wife Lisa of Bowie, Md.; three sister-in-laws: Janet (Alan) Robinson of
Chattanooga, Tenn., Judy (Kevin) Miller of Akron, Ind., Sharlene “Shar” (Tom) Coahran of
Rochester, Ind. and one brother-in-law, William “Bill” (Lisa) Stults of Argos.
She was preceded in death by her father, William H. Blackford and son, Greg A. Stults, April
19, 1974.
Friends may visit with the family Monday Feb. 2, 2009 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Tippecanoe
Community Church, 2940 18-B Road, Tippecanoe, Ind. and one hour prior to the funeral services
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 3, 2009 at the church with Rev. Randy
McElveen, Rev. Ken Todd and Rev. Alan Robinson presiding.
Burial will follow at Tippecanoe cemetery, Tippecanoe, Ind.

James Richard "Dick" Morgan
ARGOS — James Richard “Dick” Morgan, 82, a longtime Argos resident, passed away due to
natural causes on Saturday evening, Jan. 31, 2009 in the St. Joseph Hospital at Ft. Wayne.
Dick was born March 27, 1926 in Plymouth, the son of Oscar Eugene and Hazel Agnes (Unger)
Morgan. He attended the Linkville School.
In 1955 he was eager to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. AirForce.
Dick was a carpenter by trade and personally raised hogs until an early disability prevented him
from doing so.
He first married
Janet E. Hamman who survives. Together they had five children: Hope C.
(Virgil) Herring of Grovertown, Kelly L. (Paul) Antoine of Bryan, Ohio, Gretchen D. (John) Worley
of LaPorte, Bridgett B. Koz of Argos and Mark R. (April) Morgan of Donaldson.
On Sept. 19, 1987 in Argos, he married
Marvis A. (Jones) Crum whose children include: Dawn
M. (Dan) Byler of LaGrange, David A. (Julie) Crum of Plymouth and Duane L. (Laura) Crum of
Holmdel, N.J. All together there are 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dick’s surviving siblings are: Daren (Dorothy) Morgan of Plymouth, Stanley (Dorothy) Morgan of
Rochester, Jane Wilson of Greenwood, Mary Ann Orr of Warsaw, Helen Robinson and Barbara
(Jake) Elliott both of Tippecanoe, Kay (Bill) Smith and Lois Evans all of Plymouth. Numerous
nieces and nephews also survive.
Dick was an active member of the Jordan Baptist Church, he enjoyed square dancing as a
member of the Rochester “Swinging Dudes, ” was a Master Gardener, he wrote and had
published works of poetry, he also enjoyed reading, fishing, listening to Country/Western music
and above all time with family.
In July of 2008, Dick was saddened at the passing of his wife Marvis. Also preceding in death
were his parents, three brothers; Lloyd, Wayne Kent, and John Adrian Morgan and a sister;
Norma Fillinger.
All are invited to share memories with the family on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth where calling will continue
after 7 a.m. Thursday in the absence of family. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday
in the Jordan Baptist Church, 11447 19th Road Argos with Pastor Thomas Tupps officiating.
Calling will occur there one hour prior to services.
Burial will follow in the Jordan cemetery where military honors will be accorded to him.
