F. William "Bill" Snyder
CULVER -- F. William “Bill” Snyder, 79, a lifelong resident of Culver, passed away at 11 p.m.
Dec 1, 2010 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Culver surrounded by his loving family. He was
passionate about his family, the Culver community and “making the world a stronger, better
place.”
He was born Aug 13, 1931 in Culver, the fourth child of Paul T. and Bernice (Crabb) Snyder and
remained a lifelong resident and enthusiastic Culver community supporter.
Bill graduated from Culver High School in 1951 and studied business at North Central College in
Naperville, Ill. And Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. He proudly served in the United States
Navy.
He grew up working on the family farm with his brothers and sisters and in the family restaurant
at the corner of Main and Jefferson Streets in downtown Culver. In 1952, his father, Paul T.
Snyder bought the hardware from O.T. Goss and renamed it the Culver Hardware. Bill
purchased the store from his father in the early 1960s. In 2006, the Bostwick Braun Hardware
wholesale supply celebrated more than 50 years of business with the Culver Hardware. In
addition to the Culver Hardware, Bill also owned and operated the Downtown Laundromat now
owned by his son, Mike Snyder.
On October 7, 1956, Bill was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Taylor. Theirs was the second
wedding to be held in the brand new Wesley United Methodist Church on School Street. They
enjoyed 48 years of marriage until her passing January 18, 2005.
Bill was a Boy Scout leader, involved in the Culver Little League baseball for 20 years, and
refereed for jr. high basketball games. A talented athlete in his youth, he was an ardent
supporter of all Culver community sports. He was on the Culver-Union Township Advisory Board
for 12 years. Bill was also active on the Culver-Union Township Volunteer Fire Department from
1974 – 2008 and was honored with their lifetime achievement award in 2008. In 2006, Bill was
the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni award from the Culver Community School-Culver
Kiwanis.
Bill was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Culver Jaycees. He and his wife
enjoyed supporting and giving to the Culver community.
Bill is survived by son Michael (Shirley) Snyder of Culver, IN; daughters Dr. Susan Snyder (Jim
Kulesia) of Lafayette, IN and Lynda (Galen) Hershberger of Middlebury, IN; sisters Barbara
(Ralph) Pedersen of Culver, and Joanna (Virgil) McCan of Plymouth; brother Jim (Joyce) Snyder
of Dixon, Ill.; sisters-in-law Jean Snyder of Culver and Lee Snyder of Silver Springs, Md.; three
grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers – Paul Snyder Jr
and Alan Snyder.
There will be a time of remembrance with the family at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on
Friday, December 10, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. EDT.
A memorial service will follow Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Wesley United Methodist
Church, Culver at 1 p.m. with a one hour visitation at the church prior to the service.
As was his desire to always try to give something back – his final act of giving was to bequeath
his body to science via the Indiana University School of Medicine donor program – as had his
wife almost six years ago.
The Snyder family is immensely grateful for the loving care, concern and attention he received
while he was a resident at Miller’s Merry Manor in Culver.
Memorial donations may be made to the Culver-Union Township Fire Department, Wesley
United Methodist Church, or the Bill and Barbara Snyder Memorial Scholarship/Marshall County
Community Foundation.
The Odom Funeral Home, Culver, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Norman Eugene Thomas
SOUTH BEND -- Norman Eugene Thomas, 76, of South Bend, died at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday,
Dec. 1, 2010 at Healthwin Nursing Home in South Bend.
He is survived by his children: Pamm S. Thomas of South Bend, Marilyn (Christopher Sr.)
Cherrone of Lakeville, Robert Thomas of South Bend, Steve Thomas of South Bend, David
(Cathy) Thomas of South Bend; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beverly
(Jr.) Sims of North Liberty.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 and one hour prior to services Tuesday
at Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home, 1109 Lincolnway West.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to One Accord Christian Fellowship.

Elizabeth Ann Wright
PLYMOUTH -- Elizabeth Ann Wright, 58, of Plymouth, died at 1:55 p.m. Dec. 1, 2010 at her residence.
She is survived by her sons, Rickey Allan (Tiffany) Burns of Argos and Michael Burns (Elizabeth)
Oyler of Plymouth; daughters, Brandi Wright of Monterey and Samantha (John) Grossman of
Goshen; three grandchildren; mother, Audrie Wright of Plymouth; and nine siblings: Harold
(Joyce) Wright of Argos, Helen Epley of Kentucky, Sandy (Ken) Schori of Argos, Wanda (Fred)
Lloyd of Culver, Rita (David) Pennington of Argos, John Wright, Jack (Sarah) Wright of Culver,
Joe Wright of Florida, and Janice Wright of Kentucky.
Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Church of Jesus Christ,
15676 Michigan Road, Argos.
Funeral services will take place at noon Saturday at the church.

Margaret T. Abbott-Woerner
PLYMOUTH -- Margaret T. Abbott-Woerner, 92, of West Lafayette, formerly of Plymouth, died
at 5:30 am. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at Westminster Health Care.
She was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Sterling, Ill., to the late Walter and Blanche Thomas.
Margaret graduated from Indiana University with a BS and MS degrees. She married
Howard
Abbott in 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1980. In 2007 she married
Robert Woerner in
West Lafayette and he survives.
Margaret was a first grade teacher at Washington School in Plymouth and retired in 1980.
She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, PEO, Delta Delta Pi at Eureka College, Tri
Kappa and Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving along with the husband are two sons, Thomas H. Abbott and wife Sally of Chatham,
N.J. and Jeff H. Abbott and wife Donna of Ft. Wayne; stepsons: David Woerner and wife Mary
Ann of Nashville, John Woerner and wife Marsha of Bradenton, Fla., and Brian Woerner and
wife Cathy of Morgantown, W.V.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and eight step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be one hour prior to a 10:30 a.m. service Monday, Dec. 6 at Central Presbyterian
Church, Lafayette, with Dr. Bill Smutz and Dr. Jeff Cover officiating.
Burial will be at Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth, at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian
Church of Plymouth or Westminister Village Foundation.
Kenneth L. Huber
BREMEN -- Kenneth L. Huber, 88, of Bremen, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at the
Bremen Health Care Center.
He was born Jan. 11, 1922 in Foraker to Henry and Alva (Hunsberger) Huber. Nov. 8, 1941 he
married
Bethel Edel; she survives.
Kenneth was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a field lineman with a rank of TEC-5, earning five
bronze medals in the European Theatre of WWII with the HQ company of the 17th infantry, 30th
Div. (Old Hickory). He worked for Lime City Trucking Co. and Hover Trucking Co. and was a
member of Bremen VFW and Bremen Volunteer Fire Dept for 20 years.
Kenneth always loved attending high school and Ball State sporting events, watching his
children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate. Most of all, he loved just spending
time with his family.
Survivors include wife Bethel Huber of Bremen; two sons, Ted (Maureen) Huber of Newburgh,
Marty (Connie) Huber of Bremen, 2 daughters: Kathy (Gary) Heller of Bremen and Susan
(Dwayne) Gooch of Bremen; grandchildren: Kelly (Keith) Paige of Boonville, Dan (Brooke) Huber
of Indianapolis, Missi (Rob) Coffel of Bremen, Tod Jones of Midland, Ohio, Deron (Holly) Heller
of Bremen, Chris (Jamie) Lucas of Bremen, Julie (Ian) Nelson of South Bend, Carrie Gooch of
Los Angeles, Calif., Lindsey Huber of Bremen, and Mitchel Huber of Bloomington; 17 great grandchildren;
sister, Marlene (Rich) Hepler of Apache Junction, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Louise
Huber; brother-in-law, Jack Ray; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ed Huber; and three sisters: Esther
Meister, Eleanor Ray and Mary Ellen Huber.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at the First United Church of Christ in
Bremen and will be officiated by Pastor Tom Dean.
Burial will follow at the Bremen cemetery with military honors.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bremen High School Athletic Fund.

Mary Powers
CULVER -- Mary Powers, 98, of Culver, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Dec. 2, 2010 in Miller’s Merry
Manor, Culver.
Mary was born March 31, 1912 in Brook, Ind. She was one of seven children born to Cortland V.
and Ruby T. (Bruce) McKee. After graduating high school, Mary fell in love and married
Ted
Powers. During their 33 years of marriage, Mary and Ted were blessed with four children.
Together they owned and operated Culver Produce.
Mary was a talented seamstress who worked at Boetsma’s in Culver for many years. She also
enjoyed knitting and sewing. She also served as a Noble Grand of the Maxinkuckee Rebekah
Lodge of Culver.
Mary is survived by her sister, Annabelle Fisher of Bremen; brother, Don McKee; grandchildren:
Doug (Shan) Farmer and Mitch (Shannon) Farmer of Illinois, Tammy (Wink) Arnett of Florida,
Connie (Steve) Lapek of California, Cindy (John) Kennedy of New Mexico, Sheri (Peter)
Bonneson of Tennessee, and Teddie Powers of Kansas; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; children: Joan Farmer, Ted Powers,
Dwight Powers, and Marjorie Powers; four brothers; and three sisters.
A memorial service for Mary will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the
Maxinkuckee Rebekah Lodge in Mary’s memory. The Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is entrusted
with arrangements.
Mildred C. Prange
STEELEVILLE, Ill. -- Mildred C. Prange, 92, of Steeleville, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Thursday,
Dec. 2, 2010, at St. Ann's Healthcare Center in Chester, Ill.
She was born Dec. 15, 1917 in Sparta, Ill. The daughter of Herman Junge and Louise
(Buescher) Junge.
Mildred married
Arthur V. Hagen Feb. 7, 1937; he passed away May 16, 1973. Mildred later
married
Elmer Prange Feb. 13, 1982 and he passed away Dec. 14, 2005.
She worked as a homemaker in her home and was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran
Church, Wine Hill, Ill., St. Paul's Ladies Aid, Steeleville Lions Club, and AARP Steeleville
Chapter.
She is survived by her son, John A. Hagen of Gautier, Miss.; two daughters, Carol Seegers of
Bremen, Donna Klar of Indianapolis; two stepsons, Darwin Prange of Campbell Hill, Ill. And Lloyd
Prange of Roanoke, Texas; two stepdaughters, Eunice Johnson of Hazelwood, Mo., Grace
Kimbrough of Campbell Hill, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren;
10 step great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Ruth Frick of Bremen, Anita
Mueller of Chester, Ill., and Adele Fanter of Bridgeton, Mo.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lydia and Paula; four brothers: Gene,
Walter, Markus and Waldo Junge.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in
Wine Hill. Rev. Tim B. Zechiel will be officiating.
Visitation was held at Wilson's Funeral Home, Steeleville, Saturday, Dec. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m.,
then Sunday from 7:30 a.m., until 11 a.m. and then from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bremen, Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Rev. Roger Rohde will be officiating.
Burial will follow at the Bremen City cemetery in Bremen.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wine Hill, Ill. Or St. Paul's Lutheran
Church, Bremen.
Ruth E. Stolte
PLYMOUTH -- Ruth E. Stolte, age 84, a resident of Plymouth, formerly of Bourbon, passed
away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at 2:45 p.m. in Miller’s Merry Manor Assisted Living with family by
her side.
Ruth was born the daughter of Ed Goff and Ruth Modell Bennitt at La Porte, Feb. 11, 1926. She
was married
March 17, 1946 to Ralph L. Stolte at Wanatah, who later died Jan. 22, 1995.
They were blessed with their two children who survive, Kirby Eugene and wife Norene A. Stolte
of Fort Wayne and Debra K. and husband Rick D. Powell of Plymouth; as well as her six
grandchildren: Chad Matthew and wife Heather Stolte of Wanatah, Kristi Ellen Stolte of Fort
Wayne, Derek C. Adams of Indianapolis, Dustin D. Adams of Plymouth, Craig Powell of Fishers,
Matthew and wife Renee Powell of Plymouth; and eight great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by a sister, Marylin Holman of LaPorte; and three brothers: Raymond Gene
and wife Janet Goad of Union Mills, James S. and wife Mary Jane Goad of Fort Worth, Texas
and Dwight A. and wife Eliza Goad of Union Mills.
She had been a resident of the LaPorte area until she and her husband moved to Bourbon to
their farm in 1953. She was a graduate of Union Mills High School. She was a homemaker and
worked with her husband on their dairy farm south of Bourbon until they retired in 1986 from
dairy, but continued to produce grain on their farm until Ralph passed away of a brain tumor.
Ruth was a longtime member of the First United Church of Christ in Bourbon and a member of
the Red Hat Society.
A son, Steven Lewis Stolte, died May 22, 1965; a sister, Delores A. Zeisig and an infant brother,
Frank B. Goad all preceded her in death.
In honoring her wishes, cremation will take place.
In celebration of Ruth’s life, the family will receive friends at a memorial visitation Sunday, Dec. 5
in Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home 115 S. Main St. Bourbon. The time of sharing memories will
begin at 4 p.m. and conclude at 6 p.m. with Pastor Jim Irwin offering words of encouragement to
those in attendance.
Burial will follow later in the Patton cemetery near LaPorte.
The family would prefer donors make a memorial contributions in her memory to a charity of their choice.
