Doris L. Gambrel
ARGOS – Doris L. Gambrel, 80, an area resident since 1969, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31,
2010, at her residence.
The daughter of Charles and Dora Smith Merida, Doris was born in Lancaster, Ky. Dec. 2, 1929.
Dec. 28, 1946, Doris and John H. Gambrel were married
in Pineville, Ky. He preceded her in
death July 11, 1990.
She had worked at United Technologies in Plymouth, where she was Chief Union Steward of
IBEW #1976, retiring in 1995. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and being with her
family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Doris is survived by three daughters: Cheryl (Gary) Duvall of Venice, Fla., Betty Beam of Etna
Green and Pam (Jim) Ketcham of Plymouth; three sons: James Gambrel of LaPorte, Wallace
(Tena) Gambrel of LaCrosse and John (Clarissa) Gambrel of Argos; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandson.
Also surviving are three sisters: Ruby Ramsey of Hamilton, Ohio, Levora Ludwig of Mooresville,
Ind. And Louise Harris of Irvine, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a daughter, Carol Stoneburner; two sons,
Gerald Gambrel and Troy Gambrel; and a granddaughter, Amanda Gambrel.
Doris’ family will welcome friends Friday, Sept. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Dorothy V. Mahler
MONTEREY -- Dorothy V. Mahler, 88, of Monterey, died at 7:41 p.m. Aug. 31, 2010 at Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by a son, Greg Mahler of Monterey; daughters, Paulette (Richard) Hanna of
Plymouth and Ginger (Keith) Shirley of Albuquerque, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 (EDT) at Odom Funeral Home, Culver.
Funeral services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at the funeral home. Burial will
follow at Riverside Memorial cemetery, Monterey.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Arthritis Association.
Alejandro Pena
PLYMOUTH -- Alejandro Pena, 84, of 1015 W. Jackson St., Plymouth, passed away at 5 a.m.,
Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at his home.
Alejandro was born April 7, 1926, in Mission, Texas, to Porfinio and Maria (Navarro) Pena.
Alejandro had been a resident of Plymouth, since 1966, coming from Argos.
He retired from Agway Seed Company. He was a member of the American Legion of Plymouth
and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, during WWII.
Alejandro is survived by his lifetime mate, Dora Gonzalez Pena; their 11 children: Nina Swinehart
of Bourbon, Alejandro (Trina) Pena, Jr. of Nappanee, Silvia (Steve) Towne of Plymouth, Serge
(Sherry) Pena of Plymouth, Julie Pena of Kokomo, Cris Maxson of Bourbon, Mary (John) Ross
of Plymouth, Jane (Bob) Dille of Argos, Jessie (Mark) Mayfield of Fort Worth, Texas, Suzy
(Clinton) Sanders of Monterey, and Lisa (Mark Albright) Pena of Plymouth; 29 grandchildren:

He was preceded in death by his son, Frank Ybarra; and his grandsons, Dan Swinehart and

Donald F., II Peverelle
PLYMOUTH -- Donald F. Peverelle II, 49, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Peverelle was born March 15, 1961 in East Chicago, Ind. Oct. 30, 1989 in Plymouth, he was
married
to Donna (Harris) Zellers.
Survivors include wife, Donna; two daughters, Ashley Nicole Peverelle of Plymouth and
Stephanie Peverelle of Knox; two sons, Kevin Peverelle of Plymouth and Donald (Yamir)
Peverelle III of Bloomington; father, Donald Peverelle I of North Judson; two brothers, Kenneth
(Yevonne) Peverelle of North Judson and Joseph (Kimberly) Peverelle of Bremen; and one
sister, Nancy Peverelle of Texas.
He was preceded in death by brothers, David C. and Jeffery M. Peverelle; and grandparents,
Elizabeth and Ira Bridegroom.
He was a truck driver for L&L Transportation of Waterloo, Ind. And a member of Northern
Indiana Tractor Pull.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 (Eastern Time) at Rannells
Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel.
Funeral services will take place Friday, at the chapel.
Burial will follow at the Westlawn cemetery, North Liberty.
James E., Jr. Dilts
KNOX -- James E. Dilts Jr., 89, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 in his home.
He is survived by daughters: Carol McGrew, Dawn McGrew and Debi (Michael) Bailey, all of
Knox; one son, Dennis (Rose) McGrew of Plymouth; three grandchildren; two sisters, Irene
Harrell of Hamlet and Fern Bane of Kentucky; and one brother, William Dilts of Knox.
Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (CST) Saturday, Sept. 4 at Rannells Funeral
Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at
Eagle Creek cemetery, Knox, where military graveside services will be conducted.
Kristy Joe Hite
PLYMOUTH -- Kristy Joe Hite, 32, of 20484 West 12th Road, Plymouth, passed away at 6:52
a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, in Plymouth.
Kristy was born Dec. 11, 1977, in Anadarko, Okla., to Billie and Linda (Lester) Noland. Kristy and
Billy Hite were united in marriage April 22, 2000. They have five children. Kristy’s greatest joy, in
life, was being a wife and a mother.
Kristy is survived by husband, Billy Hite of Plymouth; their children, Tierra Shidler, Michael
Schlemmer, Trenton Hite, Ethan Hite and Megan Hite, all of Plymouth; her parents, Billie and
Linda Noland of Kokomo; her brother, Billie Noland of Kokomo; her sister, Bobby Noland of
Kokomo; and her father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Margie Hite of Plymouth.

Glenn S. Lemler
BRADENTON, Fla. -- Glenn S. Lemler, 91, died Sept. 4, 2010.
Born in Bourbon, he graduated from Bourbon High School in Indiana. While in high school he
was a three-year varsity basketball player. He attended Manchester College, graduated from the
University of Wisconsin School of Banking and completed O. C. S. with the Corps of Engineers
at Fort Belvoir, Va. He moved to San Antonio in 1986 from Culver, Ind.
He was a World War II Combat Veteran for four-and-a-half years, a captain with the 804th
Aviation Corps of Engineers assigned to the 7th Air Force, serving in the Central Pacific, Saipan,
and in the Makin Island. He received numerous military awards. He was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, past Commander of the Bourbon American Legion, and a lifetime
member of the Reserve Officers Association.
He worked at the First State Bank of Bourbon for more than 40 years as a cashier, executive
vice president, and chairman of the board. He was a member of the Indiana Bankers
Association, the American Bankers Association, and the Independent Bankers Association. He
was also an independent insurance agent and was awarded for 25 years as an outstanding
agent for the Insurance Company of North America.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Culver, where he served as church secretary
and trustee, a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of San Antonio, and of Hope Lutheran
Church of Bradenton.
He was a member of Park View Hospital Board, the Marshall County Tax Adjustment Board,
charter member of Marshall County Realtors Association, Marshall County Insurance Agents. He
was organizer and director of the Bourbon Industrial Development Corporation, 25-year member
of the Lions Club; was the director of Plymouth Country Club, and past president and director of
the Maxinkuckee Lake Association. He also served as director of the Marshall County Red
Cross, and was the representative for the Bourbon Township Salvation Army.
He served on the board of Stephens College, Mo. Fathers Association and in San Antonio, was
a member of the Northern Hills Country Club.
He was appointed by Governor Otis Bowen to be a member of the “Sagamore of the Wabash”
for being distinguished by his Humanity in Living, Inspiration in Leadership and Loyalty in
Friendship.
Glenn was devoted to his wife of 63 years, Marcella; daughter, Mary Joe Lemler of Los Angeles,
Calif.; sons, David of Plymouth; Vincent (Jennifer) of Bradenton; two half-brothers, Don and
Robert; five grandchildren; and many other family members around the country.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen; mother, Erma Stewart Lemler; and father, Harry
I. Lemler.
Inurnment with military honors will be at Culver.

Jacqueline Ann Singleton
Aug. 31, 1954 -- Sept. 4, 2010
PLYMOUTH -- Jacqueline Ann Singleton, 56, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 in her home.
Jacqueline was born Aug. 31, 1954 in South Bend, to Gerald R. and Janice A. (Howard)
Singleton and lived in the area most of her life. She was a Medication Assistance Coordinator at
Memorial Hospital, South Bend and the owner of J P Baskets and More. She was a member of
the Cornerstone Community Fellowship Church of LaPaz and the Red Hat Club of South Bend.
She was an avid Notre Dame fan and loved tailgating with her friends, the holidays, and
celebrating with her family and friends.
Surviving are her father, Gerald (Nancy) Singleton of North Liberty; two brothers, Greg
(Veronica) Singleton of Plymouth and Colin (Christine) Singleton of Walkerton; two stepsisters,
Becky (Max) Edison and Chris (Scott) Verkler; nieces and nephews, Abbi (Adam) Ottman, Sarah
(Michael) Skvarla, Kyle and Jake Singleton and Dale and Brandon Eddinger; great nephews,
Aiden, Nevan and Keenan and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Janice Singleton.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. (Eastern Time) at the North
Liberty Church of Christ with Pastor Steve Cox officiating.
Burial will be in the Westlawn cemetery, North Liberty.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. (ET) at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel
and Wednesday at the church after 10 a.m.

Ronald E. Leeper
BREMEN -- Ronald E. Leeper, Sr., 82, of Bremen, passed away Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010 at the
Community Hospital of Bremen with his daughter by his side.
He was born Nov. 3, 1927 in Marshall County to Earnest and Freda (Scheetz) Leeper. Dec. 21,
1945 he married
Phyllis J. Long. She preceded him in death in 2007.
Also preceding him in death are son, Ronald E. Leeper, Jr.; infant daughter, Brenda J. Leeper;
two brothers, Jesse and Marvin Leeper; and sister, Ernestine Stuntz.
Ronald served as sergeant in the U.S. Army, and an AAA gun crewman and M-1 rifle marksman,
receiving a WWII Victory medal.
He retired from a lifetime of driving a semi and was a Bremen Church of God Minister. He
enjoyed sitting on his front porch watching people go by and walking his best friend Cody.
Survivors include daughter and caregiver Mary Leeper of Bremen; two grandsons, David (Holly)
Leeper of Goshen, and Brian (Elizabeth) Leeper of South Bend; seven great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Leon (Eunice) Leeper of Bridgman, Mich., and Dennis (Cindy) Leeper of Bremen;
sister, Marlena Dube of Bremen; uncle, Russel Wagley of Bremen; and daughter-in-law, Shirley
Leeper of Middlebury.
There will be no visitation.
A graveside service will take place at a later date.
