Sam Sutopo
TERRE HAUTE -- Sam Sutopo, 47, of Terre Haute, passed away in his residence at 2:35 a.m.
June 7, 2010.
He was born Sept. 14, 1962 in Singapore, the son of the late Ship Capt. Slamet Supardjo
Sutopo and Linda Yong Sutopo.
Survivors include his wife Rachel (Dalton) Sutopo whom he married
July 28, 1990; a daughter,
Kyra Sutopo; his mother; and two sisters, Kensy and her husband Vincent and Dewy and her
husband Edsmon, all of Singapore; a brother, Angkasa of California; and several nieces,
nephews, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He was the Director of Environmental Engineering and Technical Services for Tangent Rail,
formerly Western Tar Products Corporation, working at the corporate level and was responsible
for all safety, environmental compliance, permitting, capital projects, network systems and
engineering activities. Sam held professional registration and membership, which included the
National and Indiana Society of Professional Engineers, the prestigious national honor Society of
Phi Kappa Phi, COMPTIA, and the American Society of Power Engineers.
Sam was a licensed facility operating engineer, an examining engineer, a registered professional
industrial hygienist, a certified computer systems and network engineer. He held a bachelor and
a double master’s degree with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. He served on the Board of
Examining Engineers for the city of Terre Haute and held a First Class Stationary Engineers
License.
Sam was also the author of several software and patents. During his spare time he enjoyed
spending time with his family, growing orchids, gardening, and helping others fulfill their dreams.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 12 in DeBaun Springhill Chapel at 10 a.m. until the funeral
service that will begin at 4 p.m.
Rev. Mark Gallagher will officiate.
Following cremation he will be returned to his native Singapore.

Keith Gordon Felix
DENVER, Colo. -- Keith Gordon Felix, 92, of Denver, formerly of Plymouth, passed away
Tuesday, June 8, 2010.
He was born on the family farm, March 8, 1918, in Tippecanoe County, Ind., the fourth of 12
children born to Carl Otis Felix and Emma Wolf/Gregg.
He attended Whistler School of Heath, graduated from Monitor High School in 1936, and Purdue
University in 1943. He enlisted in the Marine Corps. Officers Candidate Class, Oct. 17, 1942,
attended Boot Camp at Parris Island, S.C., from 1942 to 1943, and Officers Candidate Class at
Quantico, Va., where he was commissioned as 2nd Lt., April 7, 1943.
He attended Naval Communications School at Harvard University from 1943 to 1944, then Army
Officers Communications School at Fort Benning, Ga. Keith shipped out of San Diego, Calif., for
Pearl Harbor, Sept. 16, 1944, and then flew to Guadalcanal to join the 6th Joint Assault Signal
Company, as commanding officer.
He participated in the Battle of Okinawa, landing with assault waves, April 1, 1945. In July 1945,
he trained in Guam for the anticipated invasion of Japan. In August 1945, he went with the 6th
Marine Division from Guam to Tsingtao, China, as Commander of the 6th JAS Company, to
participate in the surrender of the Japanese forces in China. Keith returned to the U.S., Jan. 29,
1946, and was released to inactive (reserve) duty, April 1946.
Keith met Arline Constance Hickisch, in May of 1947 in LaCrosse, Wisc., while attending a U.S.
Dept. of Agriculture School. They were married
, Oct. 12, 1947, and moved to Plymouth that
same month. Keith and “Connie” were residents of Plymouth until December 2007. During their
65 years in Plymouth, both were very active in the community of Plymouth, as well as Marshall
County, and the state of Indiana.
Keith was a member of the Volunteer Training Unit 9-5, in South Bend, Ind., from 1950 to 1962,
as a Reserve Officer. In July of 1962, Keith organized the 6th Engr. Bn, USMC, FMF with
headquarters in South Bend. In 1966, while organizing and serving the Michiana Reserve Officer
Association, Keith was promoted to Colonel.
He retired in 1978 with 35 years, four months, and 22 days of service. Keith was a life member of
the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve; the American Legion, since 1950; and Veterans of Foreign
Wars, since 1947.
Keith Felix was the founding principle of Felix & Associates, Inc., in Plymouth, an active real
estate sales and development company and insurance agency, for more than 36 years, until his
retirement in 1983. He was active in the Calvary Lutheran Church, in Plymouth, holding many
offices including president, treasurer, elder, and various board memberships. As chairman for
the financial committee of the Marshall County Historical Society, he raised funding for the
purchase of its current building.
Keith served on the Plymouth Library Board, Chamber of Commerce, Community Fund and
Township Boards, the Marshall County Republicans, and State Governors and Senatorial
Committees. He had been a member of Plymouth Kiwanis Club, since 1947, and also served as
president for the local Purdue Alumni Association.
For health reasons, and to be closer to their son Keith II, Keith Felix and Connie moved to
Denver, Colo., in December of 2007.
Connie preceded Keith in death, in February 2010. Keith Felix is survived by their three children:
Patricia Sue Felix/Calvert (Jeff) of Orlando Fla., Keith Gordon Felix II (Nancy) of Lakewood,
Colo., and Kevin John Felix (Kristi) of Indiana; his grandchildren: Jason (Laura) Felix, Joshua
(Jill) Felix, and Justin (Rachael) Felix all of Denver, Colo., and Jacob Felix; two step grandsons,
James (Andrea) Parker of North Carolina and Paul (Rhonda) Parker of Plymouth; and five great grandchildren.
Keith and Connie stated in the History of Marshall County Indiana, the Sesquicentennial 1836-
1986: “We are thankful to have been able to live and raise our family in Plymouth, Ind. Marshall
County has been good to us.”

Freda Schlemmer
BREMEN -- Freda Schlemmer, 70, of Bremen, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at her residence.
She is survived by a son, Randy (Sandi) Schlemmer of Bremen; a daughter, Beth (Scott) Villars
of Bremen; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, (twin) Fred Becknell of
Midland, Mich. and Kenny Becknell of Granger; sisters: Norma Church of Bourbon, Donna
Hinsdale of South Whitley, Jenny Zentz of Plymouth, Irene Unsicker of Bremen, Doris Lynch of
Bremen and Sue Becknell of Plymouth.
Visitation will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, June 11 at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 S.R.
331, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a
later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or Riley
Hospital for Children.
William Levi Schmidlapp
ARGOS -- William “Bill” Levi Schmidlapp, 9098 12th Road, Argos, died of natural causes in St.
Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, at 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010.
Bill was born in Piqua, Ohio, on Jan. 2, 1930, the son of Russell and Clara Miller Schmidlapp.
He graduated from Piqua High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in agriculture at Ohio
State and his master’s degree at Purdue University in agriculture engineering.
He was a member of the Army and graduated from Officer Candidate School as a second
lieutenant at Ft. Belvoir, Va. He was later stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.
On June 26, 1955, Bill and Carol Macy were married
in Tipp City, Ohio.
At one time he taught agriculture and was later self-employed as a construction contractor where
he put up and designed pole barns. A very knowledgeable man, he was an avid reader. He was
a member of the Shalom Fellowship.
Bill is survived by his wife Carol, two daughters and a son. They are Alane C. Day, Sand Lake,
Mich.; Debra A. (Len) Wiens, Snhomish, Wash.; and Dean W. Schmidlapp, Plymouth. Six
grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Nelda Schmidlapp, Piqua, Ohio, also survive.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and all six of his brothers and sisters: Alice, Elva,
Marie, Ethel, Herbert and Fred.
A time of sharing with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday June 14, 2010 at the
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. A memorial
service will be held immediately following visitation at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts in Bill’s name may be made to the Shalom Fellowship, 9098 12th
Rd., Argos, IN 46501.
Virginia M. Anhold
KOONTZ LAKE -- Virginia M. Anhold, 88, of Koontz Lake, passed away Wednesday, June 9,
2010 in the home of her daughter in Schererville.
Survivors include three daughters, Peggy (Fred) Jones of Schererville, Diana (Bob) Rakoczy of
South Bend and Ella Stephen of Crown Point; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters;
stepdaughter, Marsha (Joe) Jacobson-Guba; stepson, Gordon (Cathy) Anhold and two
step grandsons.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 1 p.m. CDT at Rannells Funeral Home,
Koontz Lake Chapel. Burial will be at the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery, Donaldson. Friends may
call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday after 12 p.m. until the time of services at the
funeral home.

Betty J. Bowling
NAPPANEE -- Betty J. Bowling, 64, of Nappanee, died at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010
at her residence.
She is survived by daughters: Gina Marks of Bremen, Rhonda Harrington of Nappanee and
Brenda Bowling of Milford; a son, Michael (Michelle) Marks of Wakarusa; 11 grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; sisters: Donna (Lowell) Price of Plymouth, Carol (Keenan) Wynn of South
Bend, Mary Nethercutt of Plymouth, Karen Bowling of Plymouth, Nancy Morris of Elkhart, Patty
(Ron) Eutsey of Shipshewana, and Jessie Puffer of Goshen; and brothers: Ralph (Mary) Young
of LaPaz, Clifford (Jaquelyn) Young of Tippecanoe, Roger Young of Nappanee, Donald (Tabitha)
Young of Plymouth, and Richard Nusbaum of Goshen.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 11 and one hour prior to services Saturday
at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill cemetery, Bourbon.

Edgar L. Clifton
LaPAZ -- Edgar L. Clifton, 87, 325 Courtland Street, LaPaz, passed away at 2:40 p.m.,
Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.
Edgar was born on July 11, 1922, in Culver, to Bernard and Nellie (Hatten) Clifton. Edgar retired
from the Bendix Corporation, South Bend, after 30 years of service in the brake division
department.
Edgar married
the former Oleta M. Schall on October 12, 1944, in South Bend. Together they
raised their four children. Edgar proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps
during WWII.
He was a member of the Community Church of God in LaPaz, the Maxinkuckee I.O.O.F. Lodge
#373 in Culver, Culver’s Rebekah Lodge, and within I.O.O.F. Lodge, the Maurice Curtis
Encampment #9 and Canton #9, South Bend. He served as the I.O.O.F. Grand Master, of the
State of Indiana.
Edgar is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Oleta Clifton; his daughter, Barbara Jane and
Stanley Bateman of Plymouth; his sons, Edgar E. Clifton of Elkhart, Michael C. and Linda Clifton
of Brownsburg, and Roger and Karen Clifton of South Bend; his brothers, Donavan and Lucille
Clifton of Culver and Bernard Clifton of Kernersville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles.
