Lewis J. Kepler
PLYMOUTH -- Lewis (Jim) Kepler, age 61, of 13349 W. 7th Road, Plymouth, IN, 46563, passed
away Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 2:55 a.m. at his home.
Jim was born Sept. 20, 1948, in Bluffton, Ind., to Lewis and Sarah (Fair) Kepler. He graduated
from Plymouth High School in the Class of 1966.
Jim married
Linda Kline Aug. 30, 1968, in Plymouth. He served his country, in the Army, during
the Vietnam War.
Jim had been the office manager at Hehr International, Inc., in Plymouth, for 38 years. He was a
member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Plymouth, where he served as the church treasurer.
He also had been the treasurer of the Big Blue Club at LaVille School. Jim enjoyed walking with
his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda; their daughters Lori (Terry) Allen of South Bend
and Stacy (Paul) Guerin of Mishawaka; his mother, Sarah Kepler of Plymouth; his grandchildren:
Josh Allen and Ben Allen of South Bend, and Chloe Guerin of Mishawaka; his sisters, Carol
(Phil) Smith of Mishawaka and Kay Lattimer of Indianapolis.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Kepler.

Joseph L. Lowry
WALKERTON -- Joseph L. Lowry, 71, of 2900 Plymouth-LaPorte Trail, Walkerton, Indiana,
46574, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 7:19 p.m., at Saint Joseph Regional Medical
Center, in Plymouth.
Joseph was born Nov. 30, 1938, in Plymouth, to Dewey and Mary (Morris) Lowry. Joe graduated
from Tyner High School, Tyner, in the Class of 1956 and from Indiana Central College,
Indianapolis, in 1960.
June 25, 1961, Joe and Jean Brant were married
in South Bend. They had been married
for 49
years.
Joe was a teacher at the South Bend Community School Corporation for 38 years. He also
taught at several other schools, with North Liberty Elementary being one. He had been working
as an electrician since 1975.
Joe was a member of the Tyner United Methodist Church, where he served as a Lay Leader. He
was involved with the Walkerton Community Pantry, served as an elected member of the
Walkerton School Board, (serving two terms and was planning to run for a third term), and was a
member of the Historical Society, in Walkerton.
Joe is survived by his wife, Jean Lowry; their son, Brian (Rose) Lowry of Walkerton; three
grandchildren: Joanna (Justin) Ritter of Walkerton, Henry Lowry and Jason Lowry, both in
college; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Ritter of Walkerton.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Devon Lowry, James Lowry, and Walter Lowry; and
his sisters, June Kulzar and Juanita Howell.

Dorothy Marcella Smith
MENTONE -- Dorothy Marcella Smith, 71, of 201 N. Walnut St., Mentone, formerly of Argos,
died May 4, 2010 at 11:31 p.m. at her residence following a sudden illness.
She was born April 19, 1939 in LaPorte to Paul and Dorothy (Smith) McGriff.
She lived in Mentone for the past two years and had lived in the Argos community for 33 years.
On Sept. 14, 1958, she married
William (Bob) R. Smith Jr. in Plymouth. He preceded her in
death on Oct. 18, 2007.
She was a housewife and graduate of Argos High School class of 1957.
Survivors include: daughter Patricia (Dallas) Richardson of Mentone; son Robert Jason (Ginger)
Smith of Knox; grandchildren Jessica, Leah, Susannah, Cassia, Anna, Rebekah, Charissa,
Noah, and Isaiah Richardson, all of Mentone, and Billy and Andy Smith of Knox; brothers Jerry
(Joan) McGriff of Lawrence, Kan., and Paul Gene (Lois) McGriff of Millington, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, sisters Patti and JoAnn, and grandson Noah Ross
Richardson.
Friends may visit with the family Friday, May 7, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the
Earl Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Glen
Mitchell performing the ceremony.
Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery, Argos.

Clifford "Kippy" Elder
NORTH JUDSON -- Clifford "Kippy" Elder, 51, died May 5, 2010 in his home.
Survivors include mother and stepfather, Eunice Elder and Avie Hardin of North Judson; sisters,
Rosa Vazquez of North Judson and Margaret Campbell of Knox; stepbrothers; Ray Hardin of
Monterey and Gordon Hardin of Tennessee.; stepsisters, Carol Trott and Barb Warren both of
Knox.
Funeral services will be Monday at 12 p.m. CDT at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Friends may call Sunday 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday after 11 a.m.
Erwin A. Holewinski
BREMEN -- Erwin A. Holewinski, 91, of Bremen, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at his residence.
He is survived by sons, Erwin Jr. “Bud” (Brenda) Holewinski of Elkhart and Dennis Holewinski of
Lakeville; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister, Caroline Bognar of South Bend;
and three nieces.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 10 and one hour prior to services
Tuesday at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 S.R. 331, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Bremen cemetery.
A remembrance celebration will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bremen VFW.
A. Dale Johnson
PLYMOUTH -- A. Dale Johnson, 72, a resident of 5th Rd. Plymouth for the past 37 years, died
in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home at 2:35 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Dale, a lifetime
Marshall County resident, had been in failing health for the past few years.
He was born in Plymouth, the son of Lewis “Tommy” M. and Goldie Maxine (Holmes) Johnson,
on January 21, 1938.
He attended the Tyner School.
Dale served his country as a sharp shooter in the United States Army.
On Dec. 9, 1972, in the Calvary Baptist Church in LaPaz, Dale and Donna F. Hindel were married
.
A dairy farmer for most of his life, Dale also worked in receiving and then maintenance at WalMart
for a period of six years.
Dale and his wife shared an interest in miniature donkeys and horses and he also enjoyed
watching professional wrestling on TV.
He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Plymouth and the American Milk Producers, Inc.
Dale is survived by his loving wife, Donna, and by a sister, Shirley J. (Loren) Nifong, Plymouth,
and a brother, Richard L. (Karen) Johnson, of LaGrange.
Several nieces and nephews survive as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beverly A. Snyder.
Friends are invited to meet with Dale’s family and share memories on Friday, May 7, 2010, from
4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Dale will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010, in the funeral
home. The Rev. Matthew Elliott, pastor of the Grace Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery in Plymouth.

Janice (Claypool) Hanson
PLYMOUTH -- Janice (Claypool) Hanson, 71, of Plymouth, formerly of Warren County, died at
11:35 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by sons: Robert (Jeanie) Hanson, William Hanson, Bryan D. Hanson, and Kirk L.
Hanson, all of Plymouth, and Richard W. Hanson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughters: Penny
(Moises) Ulloa and Mary (Luis) Suarez, both of Plymouth, and Kimberly (Shawn) Cretcher of
Bourbon; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers: Ralph, Bill, Tom, Gary, and
Jim Claypool.
Graveside services will be held at West Lebanon cemetery 1 p.m. Monday, May 10 at West
Lebanon cemetery.
Gerald "Jerry" L. Popham
ARGOS -- Gerald “Jerry” L. Popham, 77, Argos, died at his residence at 4:45 p.m. Thursday,
May 6, 2010.
He had moved to Marshall County after his retirement.
Born in Chicago, Ill. Dec. 18, 1932, Jerry was the son of Marion Francis and Martha Ruth Oliver.
He graduated from the South Shore High School with the class of 1952.
Aug. 2, 1952, in St. Felicitas Church in Chicago, Jerry and Nancy Werntz were married
. Jerry
worked for Kroger and then moved on to owning and operating his own milk route before joining
Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
He retired from Coca-Cola after 40 years of service. Jerry enjoyed woodworking, golf and
gardening. He was a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Nancy and by their five children -- a son and four daughters. They
are: Gerald Raymond (Jan) Popham, Florida; Barbara Ann (Tim) F. Berg, Plymouth; Mary T.
(Sean) Donohoe, Demotte, Ind.; Sandra (David) Zad, North Carolina; and Laverne (Peter)
Visvardis, Illinois.
Ten grandchildren survive as well. They are: Amanda Popham; Timothy Michael Berg and
Jennifer Mackey; Maureen Donohoe, Collen Robertson and Daniel Donohoe; Kimberly Ann Zad
and Joseph David Zad; and Angela Visvardis and Catherine Visvardis.
Ten great-grandchildren also survive.
Friends are invited to celebrate Jerry’s life with his family Monday, May 10, 2010, from 4 to 8
p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Jerry will be held Tuesday, May 11, at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Catholic
Church, 613 N. Center St., Plymouth. The Rev. Father William Kummer will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Michael cemetery.

Kenneth E. Ludwig
PLYMOUTH -- Kenneth E. Ludwig, 66, of 413 Charles St., died of natural causes in Memorial
Hospital, South Bend, at 1:40 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2010.
Kenny was born in Argos Jan.25, 1944. He was the son of Francis “Abe” and Sarah Hiland Ludwig.
He attended Argos High School; after high school he joined the Army for three years serving
from 1962 to 1965. March 2, 1968, in the First United Methodist Church of Plymouth, Kenny and
Sandra Klapp were united in matrimony.
Kenny worked for the City of Plymouth in the sanitation department for eight years and then for
18 more years as a purchasing agent of cleaning and automotive supplies. Prior to his service
for the city, he drove a semi truck for Espich Trucking.
He loved working in his yard and just being outdoors. Most of his spare time was spent helping
other people.
Kenny enjoyed watching racing, golf and cooking for his family and got great enjoyment playing
with his grandson, Bryce. He also enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley.
He was a Blueberry Festival volunteer for more than 25 years, setting up and cleaning up the
premises. He had a great sense of humor.
He called himself “the head garbologist” of the 18-member team that kept the 100-plus acres of
Centennial Park spotless and trashless for the four days of the festival. When you asked Kenny
“how’s business?” he’d always say, “it’s picking up!”
Kenny is survived by his wife Sandra, Plymouth; a daughter, Tammy Ludwig, also of Plymouth;
and a son, Brian Ludwig of Fort Wayne. His grandson Bryce Ludwig, Plymouth, survives as well
as two sisters, Martha (Richard) Muffley, Plymouth: and Irene Creighbaum, Tippecanoe.
A half-brother, David Ludwig, Bremen, and a half-sister, Frances Ann Dorsey, Argos, together
with two stepsisters, Mary Helen Devos, Argos, and Sue Feagles, Florida, and a stepbrother,
Charles Kring, Elkhart, also survive.
Kenny is preceded in death by his parents, a stepsister and two stepbrothers: Donna, Michael
and Bobby.
Friends are invited to celebrate Kenny’s life with his family from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11 in
the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Kenny will be held immediately following visitation at 7 p.m., May 11, in the
funeral home. Pastor Charles Krieg will officiate.
Military honors, performed by Plymouth American Legion, Plymouth VFW and DAV will be
accorded to Kenny at the funeral home.
Memorial gifts may be given in Kenny’s memory to the cancer, diabetes and mental health
associations.
