Barbara Sue (Lacefield) Ryan
FORT WAYNE -- Barbara Sue (Lacefield) Ryan, 71, of 2026 E. State Blvd., Fort Wayne, died at
2:55 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 at The Waters of Summit City Nursing Home, Fort Wayne, Ind.,
following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 21, 1939 in Harrisburg, Ill. to Claude and Grace (Felkins) Lacefield.
She was a graduate of Plymouth High School class of 1957. Following high school she earned
her degree in Nursing from Indiana Hills Community College, Ottumwa, Iowa.
She married
Alfred L. Ryan March 11, 1957 in Rochester; he preceded her in death Nov. 9, 2009.
They lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana the last four years, moving there from Rochester.
Barbara was a Registered Nurse, retiring in 2000 from Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
She is survived by three daughters: Bunnie Sullivan of Fort Wayne, Laurie Rice and her husband
Brad of Papillion, Neb., Linda Seewer and her husband Michael of Mt. Washington, Ky.; three
sons: Ronald Ryan and his wife Melody of Fayetteville, N.C., Kevin Ryan and his wife Tammy of
Lakeland, Fla., and James Ryan III and his wife Gina of Lawton, Okla.; 19 grandchildren; two
great-grandsons; and a sister, Claudia Shuey of Peru, Ind.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Betty (Lacefield) Gilley.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 8 at the Earl-Grossman Funeral
Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, April 9 at the funeral home with Chaplain
Charles Glenn. Burial will take place at New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Jessie Dell Tobias
WARSAW -- Jessie Dell Tobias, 95, of Warsaw, formerly of Nappanee and Pierceton, died at
9:15 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.
She is survived by a son, William (Kathy) Conrad of Indianapolis; daughter, Caroline (Kenneth)
Fawley of Pierceton; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee.
Graveside services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bremen cemetery, Bremen.

Paul G. “Captain” Bennett
ROCHESTER -- Paul G. “Captain” Bennett, 55, of Rochester, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at his
residence.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy; sons, Robert Bennett of California, and Donavon and Aaron
Klein of Illinois; a brother, William “Bill” (Cathy) Bennett of Lancaster, Calif.; a sister, Elaine
Shea of North Carolina; and a granddaughter.
Visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 430
Academy Rd., Culver.
Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the church.

HAMLET -- Grace I. Burch, 106, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 her home.
She is survived by nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Fletcher cemetery, Hamlet at a later date. There will
be no visitation.

KNOX -- Mark A. Lovins, 48, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 in Porter Hospital, Valparaiso
Campus, Valparaiso.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; a daughter, Amber (Cody) Rosinski of Knox; a son, Cody
Lovins of Knox; a step-daughter, Jessica (Josh) Fawley of Winamac; a step-son, Bryon
(Amanda) Parkerson of LaPorte; four grandchildren; a sister, Ramona Freet of Plymouth; and
brothers: Gary (Tammy) Lovins of Knox, Charles (Debra) Lovins Jr. of Hamlet and Steve (Patti)
Lovins of Anderson.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. (Central Time) Friday, April 9 and from 1 p.m. until
services Saturday at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10 at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Oak Park cemetery, Knox.
Maureen Mae Miller
RHINELANDER, Wis. -- Maureen Mae Miller, 88, of Nappanee, died at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday,
April 6, 2010 at her daughter’s residence in Rhinelander, Wis.
She is survived by her husband Harvey Jr.; daughter, Becky (Carl) Corey of Rhinelander, Wis.; a
son, Kerry (Joanne) Miller of Jamestown, N.C.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 11 at the Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 12 at GracePoint Presbyterian
Church.

Dennis F. Kopka
FRANCESVILLE, Ind. -- Dennis F. Kopka, 59, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Donald of West Virginia; daughters, Deena Kaye of
Francesville, Bobi Lyn of Georgetown, Ill., Tammi of Danville, Ill., and Heidi of Lafayette; brother,
Rick Kopka; and sisters: Diane, Connie and Mary Ellen.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

NAPPANEE -- Jefferey Bagwell, 50, of Nappanee, died at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010.
He is survived by a son, Josh Bagwell of Nappanee and companion Pam Zentz.

Larry, Jr. Keyser
FULTONDALE, Ala. -- Larry Keyser Jr., 44, of Fultondale, Ala. passed away Friday, April 9,
2010 at his home.
Larry was born Dec. 4, 1965, in Plymouth, to Larry Sr. and Maxine (Huffer) Keyser. He married
Susan West in January of 2001.
Larry graduated from Plymouth High School in the Class of 1984. He worked as an assistant to a
veterinarian in Fultondale.
Larry is survived by his wife, Susan Keyser; his father, Larry Keyser, Sr. of Plymouth; his sister,
Pam and Charles Vice of Plymouth; his brother, Matt and Sara Keyser of Plymouth; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Keyser.
Cremation has taken place and burial will take place in the Fultondale cemetery with a graveside
service.

GOSHEN -- Pauline Anna Laidig, 98, died at 3:45 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Courtyard
Healthcare Center in Goshen.
She is survived by her children: Juanita Laidig of Goshen; James (Barbara) Laidig of Bremen;
Karen (Darrel) Sommers of Goshen; Sharon (Walter) Rager of Toledo, Ohio; Roger (Susan)
Laidig of Mishawaka; and Linda (Robert) Smith of Ft. Wayne; 11 grandchildren; two step grandchildren;
25 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Matilda Faughn,
Bette Binkele, both of Peoria, Ill.; brothers, Richard (Gladys) Binkele and Robert (Bernetta)
Binkele, all of Peoria, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Aldean Feldman of Bremen; and many nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen
and one hour before the service at the Apostolic Christian Church of South Bend.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wed, April 14, at the church.
Burial will follow at the Bremen cemetery.

Thelma L. Steininger Phillips
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- Thelma L. Steininger Phillips, 103, formerly of Rochester and
Elkhart, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 at Peabody Retirement Home, North Manchester.
She is survived by special friends and cousins.
Visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15 at Good Family Funeral Home,
1200 W. 18th St., Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Rochester IOOF cemetery.

Robert Leroy Timbers
ROCHESTER -- Robert Leroy Timbers, 81, of Rochester, died at 1:35 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2010
at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, following a sudden illness.
He is survived by his wife, Julia; daughters, Sandra (Kenneth) Slisher of Robinson, Ill. and
Connie (Russell) Gunter of Star City; a son, Mark (Marsha) Timbers of Huntington; 12
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce (Richard) Clark of Albion; a brother, Dean
(Peggy) Timbers of Warsaw; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 12, and one hour prior to services
Tuesday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at the funeral home.

Robert R. Swank
LA PORTE -- Robert “Bob” R. Swank, 83 years old, of La Porte, died at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, April
11, 2010 at his home.
He was born May 11, 1926 in Bourbon, the son of Ray and Gladys York Swank. July 3, 1949 in
Michigan City, he married
Mary Louise Gorden.
He was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a member of New Philadelphian Church, American
Legion, and N.R.A. He was a pastor. He served alongside his wife, Mary Louise as missionaries
in Africa from 1955 to 1957.
He was involved in missionary work in India at the time of his passing. He was the author of the
book, “Cleansing the Leper, ” which was translated into Talmi. He received a Bachelor of
Philosophy degree from Manchester College, a Master of Religion degree from Bethany
Theological Seminary in Chicago, an Aeronautical Engineer degree from Lewis College, and a
Master in Education degree from Indiana University.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary Louise of LaPorte; three sons: Rodney (Leona) Swank of
St. Louis, Mo., Curt (Kim) Swank of LaPorte, and Dave Swank of Goshen; eight grandchildren:
Jenn (Henry) Shuffle, Josh Swank, Johannah Swank, Atlanta Swank, Alexandra Swank, Tiffany
Kinter, Barry (Keunae) Kinter, and Amber (Matt) Ballard; one great-grandson, Jackson Ballard;
three sisters: Maxine Tyson of Bremen, Jeri Robison of Denver, Colo., Carol (Lyle) Hall of
Bremen; two brothers, Don (Marlene) Swank of Plymouth, and Larry (Sherry) Swank of Syracuse.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn Metcalf.
Friends will be received from 2 to 6:30 p.m. (CST) Tuesday, April 13 and from 9 to 10 a.m.
Wednesday at the Cutler Funeral Home, 2900 Monroe St., LaPorte.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, at the Cutler Funeral Home with Dr. David
Stone officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bremen cemetery, Bremen, with full military honors.

FORT WAYNE -- Mary E. Furney, 53, of Warsaw, died at 4:19 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at
Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital.
She is survived by her husband Bruce; sons, Bruce Jr. (Minnie) Furney of Syracuse, and Joey
(Jacki) Furney of Ligonier; a daughter, Jennifer Furney of Warsaw; six grandchildren; sisters:
Virginia (Michael) Smith of Salisbury, N.C., Betty (Terry) Slagle of Nappanee, and Kathy
(LaVerne "Shorty") Hochstetler of Nappanee; and a brother, Robert (Nancy) Holtzman of Plymouth.
Visitation will take place from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 15 and from 1 to 3 p.m.
