Joanne Welch, 79
Joanne Welch, 79, of 404 W. Harrison St., Mentone, mother of a local resident, died unexpectedly at 11:22 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Kosciusko Community Hospital emergency room in Warsaw. She had been in failing health for two years.
Born Feb. 21, 1926, in Wabash County, she had lived at Mentone for 43 years. She graduated from Chester Township School at North Manchester in 1944 and Manchester College in 1972.
She married George L. Welch on Aug. 22, 1952, in Veedersburg, and he died Dec. 7, 1994.
Mrs. Welch had been a teacher for the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. for 18 years.
She was the secretary of the Women's Missionary Society at First Brethren Church in Warsaw, Jolly Janes Home Economics Club in Mentone, was co-president of the alumni at Chester Township High School, a member and co-treasurer of the Retired Teachers Association. She had been a score keeper for Tippecanoe Valley Sporting events for many years and formerly kept the score book for Talma Junior High.
Surviving are two daughters, Cathy Conrad (husband: Tim) of Winona Lake and Deanna Hughes (husband: Allan) of Fishers; two sons, Alan H. Welch (wife: Joyce) of Lafayette and Brian L. Welch (wife: Beth) of Brownsburg; and a sister, Nancy Knapp of North Manchester.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at King Memorial Home, Mentone. Funeral service there at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, Pastor Bill Shipman officiating. Interment Fairview Cemetery

Gerald J. Booth, 74
Gerald J. Booth, 74, of Lafayette, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Indianapolis.
Born June 13, 1931, in Lafayette, he was raised in Pine Village. He lived in the Lafayette area from 1931 to 1979 and in Las Vegas and Columbus, Ohio, before returning to Lafayette in 2002.
Mr. Booth retired from Continental Bakery. He also had worked for Tasty Bread and Deitzens Bakery.
He served in the Navy from 1949 to 1952 and was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are five sons, Harry, Donald, Lee and Jerry Booth of Lafayette and Terry Wayne Booth of Monticello.
Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care. Cremation to take place. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, with memorial service at 12 p.m. at Jerry Booth's house at 1709 Melbourne Road, Lafayette, Surviving are 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Harold W. Crowder, 83
COVINGTON -- Harold Wayne "Hub" Crowder, 83, died at 11 p. m. Monday Sept. 12, 2005, at Veterans Administration Illiana Health Care System, in Danville, Ill.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1921, in Wabash Township, Fountain County, and graduated from Perrysville High School in 1940. He farmed most of his life in Wabash Township.
He married Jane Dennis on Dec. 17, 1945. She died Feb. 29, 1972. He married Dorothy VanHyfte Gross April 16, 1976, and she survives.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Fountain Masonic Lodge 60, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine, Western Indiana Shrine Club, Perrysville American Legion Post 350, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2395.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Wayne "Buddy" Crowder (wife: Janet) of Covington; a stepson, James Gross (wife: Marty) of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; and a brother Sam (wife: Evelyn) Crowder of Dana.
Services are Friday in Covington.
Joseph Boggs, 75
Joseph Boggs 75, of Lafayette, died at 12:28 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005.
Born Jan. 17, 1930, in Belmore, Ohio, he had lived in Lafayette for the past 30 years. He married Lenora Humphrey on July 26, 1976, and she survives.
He had worked at Alcoa as a machine operator for 28 years and also worked at Ambassador Steel in Kokomo for 10 years.
Mr. Boggs was a member of the White Horse Christian Center. His hobby was fishing.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Joseph Boggs (wife: Suzanne) of Charleston S.C.; four daughters, Rhea Hull (husband: Jay) of Miami, Fla., Myra Bonwell (husband: Greg) of Lafayette, Patricia Newman (husband: Ken) of Indianapolis and Christina Boggs (husband: Dennis) of Rossville; and a sister, Twila Bogner (husband: Carl) of Nebraska.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. today, Sept. 19, 2005, at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at the funeral home. Interment Rossville Cemetery. Surviving are 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and a sister-in-law, June Boggs of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Earnest and Susan Wagner Boggs; and a brother, Manford Boggs.
Pauline Fix, 74
Pauline Fix, 74, of Lafayette, died at 3:54 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, in the emergency room at Home Hospital.

Bob Hodgen, 76
DARLINGTON -- Bob Hodgen, 76, of Darlington, died at 3:29 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at St. Clare Medical Center, Crawfordsville.
He was born on June 24, 1929, in Frankfort, attended Jackson Township schools and graduated from Clarks Hill High School in 1947.
His marriage was to Marjorie Smith on Sept. 10, 1949, at Clarks Hill, and she survives.
Mr. Hodgen was a farmer and farm drainage contractor.
He was a member of Clarks Hill Christian Church and Indiana Land Contractors Association.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Abe Hodgen (wife: Shirley) of Roachdale and Darrell Hodgen (wife: Marsha) of Macon, Mo.; and a brother, Jim Hodgen (wife: Evelyn) of Lafayette.
Calling 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, Crawfordsville. Service there 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Velma Keesling officiating. Interment Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington. Surviving are 5 grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a sister, Janet Jo Hodgen.
Catherine R. Boyer, 69
WILLIAMSPORT -- Catherine Ruth Boyer, 69, died at 7:05 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, in her Williamsport home.

Lisa L. Kendall, 28
RENSSELAER -- Lisa Lynn Kendall, 28, of Rensselaer, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, in Remington.
She was born Dec. 6, 1976, in Hammond and had lived in Rensselaer most of her life, where she attended Rensselaer Central schools.
Miss Kendall had been employed with Family Express the past five years where she was an assistant manager.
Surviving are her father, Orville Kendall of Rensselaer; her mother, Janice Battleday Still of Elizabethtown, Ky.; two sons, Jordan Scott Minter and Connor Reeve Minter, both at home; six brothers and sisters, Greg Kendall and Mark Kendall, both of Rensselaer, Linda Keeton (husband: Perry) of Elizabethtown, Laura Spencer (husband: Mike) of Goodland, Carl Kendall (wife: Diana) of San Antonio, Texas, and Jon Kendall (wife: Stephanie) of Long Island, N.Y.
The family will receive friends at Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005. Service in Jackson Chapel, 250 N. McKinley Ave., Rensselaer, 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2005. Interment, Weston Cemetery. Surviving are her lifelong friend, Scott Minter of Rensselaer, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews. A sister preceded in death. Memorials may be made to the Jordan and Connor Minter Fund.
Cheryl A. Ritchey, 59
COVINGTON -- Cheryl Auter Rowe Ritchey, 59, of Covington, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, in St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis.

Jean I. Allen, 80
Jean Ikins Allen, 80, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, in Home Hospital. She had been in failing health the past year. She formerly lived at 930 Highland Ave.
Born Aug. 11, 1925, in Lafayette, she was educated here and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1943, where she was active in clubs and was a cheerleader. She spent most of her life in Lafayette.
She graduated from Purdue University in 1948 and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Alumni Club. She had been a member of the Lafayette Ad Club, Jeff Alumni Association, was a Home Hospital volunteer and a former member of the Lafayette Country Club.
Mrs. Allen was employed from 1970 to 1990 at The Lafayette Leader, where she sold advertising.
In 1948, she married Edward R. Pierce, and in 1972, she married Richard H. Allen. Both preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Ann "Annie" Stevens and Katherine Irene Pierce (husband: Michael Usinger), both of Bloomington; and a brother, William "Bill" Ikins (wife: Connie) of Lafayette.
Friends may call at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., one hour prior to an 11 a.m. Thursday service, the Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating. Interment, Grand View Cemetery, West Lafayette. Surviving are grandchildren, Keith Stevens, Daniel and Rachael Usinger, all of Bloomington; and her beloved cat, Mrs. Murphy. Preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Ray M. Ikins and Irene Ikins, as well as a very special aunt, Verle Lanum.
