Zella M. Nitz
BREMEN — Zella M. Nitz, 68, of Bremen, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at Community Hospital of
Bremen.
She is survived by her husband Ted; sons, Ted (Julie) Nitz Jr., of Saltillo, Miss. and Jeff (Andrea)
Nitz of South Bend; daughters, Debra (Richard) Shutter of Mundelein, Ill. and Sheri (Daniel)
Cervantes of Goshen; 14 grandchildren; mother, Christina Nitz of Alton, Ill.; brothers: David
Bowman of Aurora, Col., Charles Bowman of Alton, Ill. and Mike Bowman of Alton, Ill.; and a
sister, Judy Wolf of Lesterville, Mo.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 S.R.
331, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Bremen United Methodist
Church.
Burial will follow at Bremen cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bremen United Methodist Church.
Ruth Pippenger
PLYMOUTH — Ruth Pippenger, 92, of 635 Oakhill Avenue, Plymouth, passed away at 8:35
a.m., Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Miller’s Merry Manor, in Plymouth.
Ruth was the daughter of Arthur and Olga Parsons Samuelson.
She was born April 18, 1917, in South Bend. On June 14, 1941, Forrest L. Pippenger, took Ruth
Samuelson, to be his bride. After 44 years of marriage, Forrest passed away Nov. 15, 1985.
Ruth graduated from Manchester College with a teaching degree, and taught two years in
Teegarden. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plymouth, where she also
belonged to the WELCA Club and the quilting group.
She loved baking with her grandchildren and they in turn learned so much about baking from
their grandmother. Ruth enjoyed reading, but her most precious time was spent with her family.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Mary and James Pentelow of Plymouth and Nancy Pippenger
of Plymouth; her son, Wayne Pippenger of Salida, Colo.; her grandchildren: Amy and Clint
Spriggs of Mishawaka, David and Kristina Pentelow of Mishawaka, Jerrico and Brent Grinard of
Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jake Forrest Pippenger of Phoenix, Ariz.; six great-grandchildren;
and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Samuelson.
She was preceded in death by her brother Arthur J. Samuelson.

Dallas Manuel
BOURBON — Dallas Manuel, 70, of Bourbon, died at 12:25 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 at the
Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne, after an illness.
He is survived by his daughters: Anita Haines of Bourbon, Jeanette (Terry) Holbrook of Warsaw,
Patricia Manuel of Bourbon and Dalana Gale Varela of Plymouth; five grandchildren; one great grandchild;
and brothers: John (Patty) Manuel of Warsaw, Sammy (Linda) Manuel of Tippecanoe
and Robert Manuel of Warsaw.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Deaton-Clemens Funeral
Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21 at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Tippecanoe cemetery, Tippecanoe.
Beverly Ellen Wagoner
Beverly Ellen Wagoner, 60, of 1729 Bancroft Ave., Rochester, passed away at 1:59 p.m.
Monday at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
She was born in Rochester on Oct. 20, 1949, the daughter of the late William L. and Edith M.
(Hunter) Wagoner.
Beverly was a proud graduate of the Rochester High School Class of 1968. After high school she
entered the work force with Torin Corp., now known as Lau Industries. She was dedicated to the
company for 42 years. Bev was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for a number of
years. Bev enjoyed a good game of bingo, shopping and dining out. Most recently she enjoyed
dinners with best friend Richard Biltz.
Her survivors include a sister, Bonnie Lee Syrus, Indianapolis; two nephews, Bill Syrus and wife
Janet, New Palestine, and Jeff Syrus and wife Dana, Cloverdale; and numerous cousins, nieces
and nephews in Fulton County, including Sandy Carrico, who was like a sister to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of the life of Beverly Wagoner will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Good Family
Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. Friends may visit two hours prior to the service on
Saturday. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF cemetery.
Thomma F. Apt
PLYMOUTH — Thomma F. Apt, 81, of Plymouth, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 at Pilgrim Manor
Nursing Home.
She is survived by a daughter, Frances Lane of Billings, Mont.; a sister, Joan Russell of Florida;
brothers, Lane Lashbrook of Mississippi and Bob Lashbrook of Anderson; two granddaughters;
seven great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation or funeral services.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, was entrusted with
arrangements.
Patti McCombs Polich
CHICAGO, Ill. — Patti McCombs Polich, 61, of Chicago, formerly of Culver, died Jan. 19, 2010
in Chicago, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband Allen, she is survived by her son, Brett; daughter, Amandah; a
grandson; father, Mick (Pauline) McCombs of Mishawaka and Sebring, Fla.; brothers, Steve and
Martin McCombs; and sister, Julie Humbles.
Services and burial were held in Chicago.
Virginia Aker
PLYMOUTH- Virginia Aker, 86, of Plymouth, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010.
Virginia was born in Plymouth, Nov. 22, 1923 the daughter of Ora and Helen Mowiser Burroughs.
She attended Plymouth schools and earned her master’s degree from IUSB in Education.
She worked as a receptionist for Dr. Vore for 11 years and was a teacher in the Penn-HarrisMadison
school system for 13 years. On August 21, 1945, in Missoula, Montana, she and Dale F. Aker were
married
. Dale died Sept. 13, 1988.
After having lived in Mishawaka for a time, she returned to Plymouth in 1994. Virginia enjoyed
spending time with her grandchildren; they were her world; she also collected antiques, and was
an avid reader.
She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Plymouth, the ISTA and NEA.
Virginia is survived by a daughter, Patti (Charles) Hoppers, Mishawaka; and three grandsons:
Kevin (Michele) Hoppers with son Noah of Osceola, Daniel Hoppers with children Nicholas and
Isaiah of Mishawaka; and Joel with son Brayden of Las Vegas, Nev. A brother, John Burroughs,
Angola; a sister, Phyllis (Dewey) Shearer, Ft. Wayne; and a sister-in-laws, Elaine Burroughs of
Plymouth, and Mary Aker of South Bend; along with several nieces and nephews, survive as well.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; Kathleen, a daughter; and sons, Randall
Dale and Gregory Allen. Albert Burroughs, a brother and Jan Burroughs, a sister-in-law have
also died.
Friends are invited to visit with Virginia’s family from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Virginia will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in the Plymouth Church of the
Brethren on the corner of Baker and Michigan streets, next to the funeral home.
Burial will be in the New Oakhill cemetery.

BREMEN — Linda K. Harbaugh, 61, of Bremen, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 at home after a
courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel M. Harbaugh; daughter, Michelle Weiss; sons, Paul
Dyer, Jr., Brad Dyer and Kevin Dyer; seven grandchildren; sister, Dee Weaver and brothers,
Rickie and Dennis Fuchs.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan
St., Lakeville.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Fair cemetery.

ELKHART — Charles (Chuck) E. Huff, 56, of Elkhart, died at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20,
2010 at Elkhart General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Lambright; a son, Robert Huff of Radcliff, Ky.; a daughter,
Leslie (Scott) Griewank of LaGrange; step-daughter, Traca (John) Beck of Wakarusa, Phyllis
(Tony) Wilder of Freemont, and Diane (Terry) Penick of Orland; two grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22 at Thompson-Lengacher &
Yoder Funeral Home, 501 N. Elkhart St., Wakarusa.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 at Nappanee Missionary Church.
Burial will follow at Olive cemetery.

Bertha M. Maurer
CONNERSVILLE — Bertha M. Maurer, 95, of Connersville, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at
the Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
She is survived by a sister, Mary, formerly of Connersville; a son, James (Janet) Maurer of
Bourbon; as well as several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Miller Funeral Home in Connersville, Saturday, Jan. 23 with services
conducted by her grandson, Reverend Dehner Maurer, and burial will follow.
William "Billy" J. Redlin
KEWANNA — William “Billy” J. Redlin, 29, of Kewanna, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 in his
home unexpectedly.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Kevin and Sue Peto of Bourbon; his father, Bill
Redlin of Star City; a sister, Nicole (Earl) Scarberry of Bourbon; and a niece.
A memorial visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25 at Deaton-Clemens
Funeral Home, 115 S. Main Street Bourbon.
Harlan Blosser
BREMEN — Harlan Blosser, 65, of Bremen, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife Sharon; a son, Brad (Mindi) Blosser of Bremen; daughter Kim (Wes)
Orloff of Livingston, Ala.; five granddaughters; and a brother, Donn (Diane) Blosser of College
Park, Ga.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24 at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 S.R.

A Rosary service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25 at the St. Dominic Catholic
Church in Bremen.
Burial will follow at the Chapel Hill cemetery in Osceola.
