Sylvia P. Strader Dunnell
CULVER — Sylvia P. Strader Dunnell, 93, of Culver, died at 10:43 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010
at her residence.
She is survived by a son, Dennis (Deborah) Strader of Fishers; a brother, Virgil D. Jordan of
Mishawaka; sisters, Mildred Mandley of Mansfield, Ohio and Ruth Jacobsen of Mishawaka; and
two grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 12 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17 at Odom Funeral Home, 104 E.
Lakeshore Dr., Culver.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Culver-Union Township Public Library, 107 N. Main,
Culver, IN, 46511.
Richard Halfast
ROCHESTER — Dr. Richard Halfast, 93, of Rochester, died at 10:37 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9,
2010 at his residence.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen (Jim) Ewen of Rochester; sons, Dick “Rick” (Lynne) Halfast
of Fresco, Texas, and Greg (Jean) Halfast of Rochester; five grandchildren; four great
grandchildren; and a sister, Bev Armitage of Corry, Pa.
Private family services will take place Thursday, Jan. 14 at the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200
West 18th St., Rochester.
Burial will follow at Rochester’s IOOF cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County.
Sue Kemple
CULVER — Sue Kemple, 79, of Culver, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 in
Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver.
Sue was born Oct. 19, 1930 in Mishawaka, one of 12 children born to Edward and Frances
(Carpenter) Woodward.
She attended school in Leiters Ford and Culver. She later met and fell in love with Joseph Arthur
“Art” Kemple. They were married
Feb. 11, 1948 at the Grace United Church of Christ in Culver.
Art preceded her in death April 30, 2006.
After starting their family, Sue and Art moved to Florida for a short time. In the early ‘60s Sue
and Art moved their family to southern California where Art taught high school and Sue
waitressed while raising their children. In the ‘70s they started spending summers back in Culver,
and eventually moved back to Culver after retirement.
In 2003, they suffered the loss of their son Greg.
Sue enjoyed playing euchre, golf, and gardening. She and Art had fun taking their family on
vacations, cruises and camping trips all around the country seeing many sights. Sue was a
wonderful mother who will be sadly and deeply missed.
Sue is survived by her loving family: daughters: Connie Kemple, Judy Kemple, and Debra
Kemple-Oliff, all of Culver, and Nancy Harper of Sparks, Nev.; sisters: Pauline Archambeault,
Violet Mae Mikesell and Gayla Uhler; daughter-in-law Patty Kemple; grandchildren: Kathy, Mike
and Christy; and great-grandchildren: Christian, Lawae, Bella, and Leina.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Arthur “Art” Kemple; a son, Arthur
Gregory Kemple; brothers: Don, Edward “Bud”, Richard “Woody”, Ray, and Robert Woodward;
and sisters: Margaret Cross, Opal Woodward, and Lucy Bennett.
A time of sharing memories with Sue’s family will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15 at the
Odom Funeral Home in Culver.
Rev. Robin Keating will officiate funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Grace
United Church of Christ, Culver.
Memorials may be given in Sue’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
The Odom Funeral Home was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
Terry Kay Young
PLYMOUTH — Terry Kay Young, 50, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 in St. Joseph Regional
Medical Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by a daughter, Jessica Young of Walkerton; sons: Jeremy Johnson of Plymouth,
Frankie Bosel of Hebron and Martin Luque, at home; mother, Margaret Bosel of Koontz Lake;
sisters, Carol (Joe) Wilson of Knox and Gayle Dunlap of Marcellus, Mich.; a brother, Jay (Cheryl)
Johnson of Walkerton and five grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. (CST) to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Rannells Funeral
Home, Koontz Lake Chapel.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Grovertown cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family.
Barbara J. Betz
SOUTH BEND — Barbara J. Betz, 67, of South Bend, formerly of Walkerton, died Sunday, Jan.
10, 2010 in Healthwin Specialized Care Center.
She is survived by her husband, Keith S. Betz; son, Kyle (Natalie) Betz of Lafayette; a
granddaughter; and her mother, Lavaun Hunt of LaPorte.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 in the Palmer Funeral HomeGuisinger
Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend and one hour prior to the services in church
Thursday.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, in North Liberty Church of the
Brethren, 201 E. Market St., North Liberty.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn cemetery, Walkerton.
Polly A. Brown
ARGOS — Polly A. Brown, 64, of Argos, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 in St. Joseph Medical
Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by daughters: Janice (Gary) Snider of Argos, Melissa (Dan) Humphrey of Rolling
Prairie, Tina Gomes of North Borough, Mass. and former son-in-law, Howard Borkholder of
Plymouth, and Brenda (Jim) Trunk of Argos; sons: Clifford (Lori) Brown of Rolling Prairie, David
(fiancee, Elaine Douglass) Brown of La Porte; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
sisters: Alice Weathers of Stillwell, Sandy Mahan of Lepanto, Ark., Kay Blake of Caraway, Ark.;
and brothers, Randy Stacy of Arlington, Texas and Micheal Williams of Black Oak, Ark.
Visitation will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at Cutler Funeral Home, 2900 Monroe
St., LaPorte.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at the Salem cemetery in La Porte at a later time.

Lonnie D. Finney
OLYMPIA, Ky. — Lonnie D. Finney, 42, of Olympia, Ky., formerly of Plymouth, passed away
Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Louisville, Ky.
Lonnie was born Feb. 9, 1967, to Lloyd and LeeAnn (Maxson) Finney. Lonnie was a member of
the City of Refuge Church, in Kentucky.
Lonnie is survived by his parents, Lloyd and LeeAnn Finney of Olympia, Ky.; his brothers, Lloyd
J. Finney Jr. of Olympia, Ky. and Lewis P. Finney of Plymouth; his sister, Jennifer D. Finney of
Rochester; and two nephews.
Funeral services for Lonnie were held Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the City of Refuge Church, in
Kentucky, with the Brothers Mike Munday, Marlin Corey, and Jerry Humphries officiating.
The Kentucky arrangements were handled by the Richie Hunt Funeral Home.

Winston G. Montague
WARSAW — Winston Gladwell Montague, 93, formerly of Bourbon and Bradenton, Fla., died of
natural causes at his residence at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010.
Born in McComb, Ohio, Aug. 25, 1916, Winston was the son of Riley Isaac and Mabel Rader
Montague. He attended school in McComb, Ohio. He was an Ohio Golden Gloves Boxing
champion.
Serving his country in the U.S. Army in World War II, Winston fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was awarded the Purple Heart for his injuries.
Winston was married
to Mary Rader, deceased.
Winston and Anna Marie King were married
in Columbia, S.C. Anna died July 16, 2001.
For a time Winston drove a Greyhound bus, then became an over-the-road truck driver. He
loved to tinker with things, talk to people, travel and fish.
He was a member of the Bourbon First United Church of Christ and a former member of the
Bourbon Masonic Lodge, #227 F. & A.M.
Winston is survived by eight daughters and three sons. His daughters are: Sally (Roger) McPeak
of Pittsburg, Texas, Jeanene (Troy) McGuire of Snohomish, Wash., Aleta Montague of Winona
Lake, Karen Horoho of Kokomo, Elaine (Bud) Wetzel of Winona Lake, Debra (Marvin) Eberly
and Cheryl (Richard) McDonald, all of Warsaw, and Nancy Rockhill of Westfield.
His sons are: Tom (Val) Montague of Westminster, Colo., Richard (Becki) Montague of
Westfield, and Michael (Karen) Montague of Downers Grove, Ill.
Forty-three grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a son, Jimmy. Three brothers, a sister
and several grandchildren have died as well.
Friends are invited to celebrate Winston’s life with his family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14,
at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Winston’s funeral will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15.
The Rev. Charles Krieg will officiate.
Military rites will be accorded to Winston by the Plymouth American Legion Post 27 and the
V.F.W. Post 1162.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
