Fred A. Peterson
WALKERTON -- Fred A. Peterson, 67, of Walkerton passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 15,
2011. Fred was born Jan. 19, 1944 to Charles and Frances (Berg) Peterson in LaPorte.
Mr. Peterson was a lifelong Walkerton resident. He was a United States Navy veteran and a
member of the American Legion Post #189. Mr. Peterson was formerly employed as a machinist
at Slicers in LaPorte.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Frances Peterson. He is survived by his
sister: Annette Haining of Walkerton, three brothers: Larry Peterson of New Carlisle, Stephen
Peterson of Elkhart and Edward A. Peterson of Walkerton. Nephews: Ryan Michael Peterson,
Kyle Heffelfinger, Kody Heffelfinger. one niece: Stacey Lynn Peterson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral
Home, 408 Roosevelt Road in Walkerton with Pastor Lloyd George officiating. Burial to follow in
Kingsbury cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service
from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.
Faye D. Watson
MISHAWAKA -- Faye D. Watson, 105, of West Broadway, Mishawaka, died Tuesday at Miller’s
Merry Manor, New Carlisle.
Surviving is her daughter, Linda Watson of Newark, Del.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
Bubb Funeral Chapel, Mishawaka is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Delores M. Young
BREMEN -- Delores M. Young, 80, of Bremen, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at the Bremen
Health Care Center.
Survivors include husband Robert W. Young of Bremen; two sons, Larry L. (Evelyn) Young of
Nappanee and Rodney H.H. Young of Bremen; three daughters, Cheryl D. (Greg) Long of
Angola, Susan K. (Tim) Michaels of Ft. Wayne and Debra J. VanNess of Warsaw; 11
grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Maria Yoder of Topeka.
Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 and 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Mishler
Funeral Home, Bremen.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Burial will
follow at the Bremen cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Life Apostolic Church, Nappanee.
David Allen Caddy
ROCHESTER -- David Allen Caddy, 59, of 705 E. 4th St. Rochester, died at 4:15 p.m., Friday,
Nov. 18, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Terra (Matt) Gallagher of Elberfeld, Lisa Caddy of
Kewanna, Ann Caddy of Rochester, Mary (James) Alldaffer of Rochester, Holley Caddy of
Rochester; son, Robert Caddy of Rochester; sister, Sue Waltz of Rochester; brother, Patrick
Caddy of Churubusco; and mother-in-law, Barbara Mikesell.
Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W.
18th St., Rochester. Visitation is one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
James Arthur Martin
WALKERTON -- James Arthur Martin, 87, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 in Miller’s Merry Manor,
Walkerton.
Survivors include his wife, Etta; daughters, Shirley Salisbury, Sandra Casey and Patricia
Scheffer, all of Walkerton; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother, Billy (Ruth) Martin;
sisters, JoAnn Tapley of Karnak, Ill. and Muriel Paulnik of Florida; brother-in-law, Dean Meyer of
Karnak, Ill. and daughter-in-law, Roberta Martin of Calumet City, Ill.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. in Rannells Funeral Home,
Koontz Lake Chapel. Burial will be at the Grovertown cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 8
p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Thelma Ruth Newcomb
PLYMOUTH -- Thelma Ruth Newcomb, 96, a lifetime Plymouth resident, died at 8 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
Thelma was born Thelma Ruth Kyser in Plymouth, May 27, 1915 to Ora E. and Ethel Troutman
Kyser. She was a 1934 graduate of Lincoln High School, Plymouth.
July 4, 1936, in her parents’ yard, Thelma and Darrell B. Newcomb were married
. Darrell
preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1973.
Thelma was a devoted wife and mother for many years. When her children were grown, she
worked at the Plymouth License Branch, the Plymouth Monument Works and Patten
Monuments. She was in her 80s when she retired from the business world.
Thelma enjoyed many interests and hobbies. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword
puzzles. She loved to travel and had been all over the United States as well as trips abroad. She
especially enjoyed Europe, the pyramids of Egypt and the Holy Land.
She was a member of the First United Methodist of Plymouth for more than 80 years.
Thelma is survived by a daughter, Chris Miller of Warsaw: a son, Bill (Barb) Newcomb of
Crawfordsville: a grandson, five granddaughters, seven great-grandsons, four great granddaughters,
two great-great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Bill E. Kyser and an infant
sister, Dorothy Kyser. A son-in-law, Lonzo Miller and twin great-granddaughters have preceded
her as well.
Funeral services for Thelma will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, with calling two hours prior. The Rev. Larry
Marhanka will officiate.
Burial will follow in the New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Kathy M. Tolson
KNOX -- Kathy M. Tolson, 55, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at I.U. Health Starke Hospital, Knox.
She is survived by her husband, Jasper Tolson Sr.; daughters, Misty (David) Back of North
Judson, and Kathy (Vince) Smith and Bertha Tolson, all of Knox; son, Jasper (Stacy) Tolson Jr.
of Baines, Texas; sister, Ada Fugate of Rochester and brothers, Charles Noel of Logansport,
Stanley Cook of North Judson and Herschel Bell of Morristown, Tenn.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at 1 p.m. CST in Rannells Funeral Home,
Hamlet Chapel. Burial will be at the Highland cemetery, North Judson. Visitation is from 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Wilma Jean Watson
BOURBON -- Wilma Jean Watson, 86, of 5845 14th Road, Bourbon, passed away Saturday,
Nov. 19, 2011, at 11:21 p.m., at her home.
Jean was born March 6, 1925, in Fulton County, to Vernard and Ruby (Salts) Goodman. Jean
married
Charles W. Watson, May 19, 1946. He passed away July 27, 1978. Jean worked at the
Plymouth County Club as their secretary, was a volunteer Pink Lady for Saint Joseph Regional
Medical Center Auxiliary, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Jean and Bill built and
owned the Huddle Grill, in Plymouth, in 1962. She was a devoted wife, mother, and
grandmother. She enjoyed playing bridge and crocheting.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Andrea (Stan) Bunch of Columbus, Sara Lisa (Dan) Doody of
Bourbon, and Jennifer (Tom) Read of Plymouth; her sons, Bill (Lois) Watson of Plymouth, Tim
'Homer' (Jeannie) Watson of Plymouth, Charles (Della) Watson of Argos, and Jon (Kathy)
Watson of Rochester; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded
in death by her husband, Charles 'Bill' Watson; her son, James D. Watson, Nov. 10, 2009; her
granddaughter, Haley Corrine; her sister, Ruth South; and her three brothers.

Richard A., Sr. Cooper
PLYMOUTH -- Richard A. Cooper Sr., 62, affectionately known as Rick or Coop, a lifetime area
resident, died at 3:39 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center,
Mishawaka.
The son of Nelson Sr. and Ernestine Hauser Cooper, Rick was born Jan. 15, 1949, in South
Bend.
A 1967 graduate of Plymouth High School, Rick was in the U.S. Navy from September, 1967 to
April, 1971, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion and
former member of the VFW.
April 30, 1977, Rick and Adella Sue McEndarfer were married
in Plymouth.
Rick retired after working more than 30 years at Honeywell, formerly Bendix, in South Bend.
He enjoyed gardening, bowling, and spending time outside with his dogs, especially Lucky, with
whom he had a special bond. He was also a Farmall and Ford enthusiast,
Rick loved his family dearly, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Adella, children: Michelle Lindvall, Chris and Gary Schneider, Sam
Howard Jr., Richard Jr. and April Cooper, all of Plymouth, Jeannie and Joseph Cooper-Jasinski
Jr. of Culver, grandchildren: Sarah, Bruce, Sean, Samantha, Skylier, Jordan, Faith, Ricky III,
Megan, Olivia, Benjamin, Shelbi, Sean and McKinzi.
Rick is also survived by his best friend and his traveling buddy, Lucky his dog who he rescued
and nourished back to health.
Also surviving are three brothers: Nelson and Penny Cooper, Michael and Phyllis Cooper, David
and Carol Cooper and an aunt, Jane and Irvin Overmyer.
Visitation for Rick will be Friday, Nov. 25, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, in the funeral home.
Military Graveside services will be accorded to Rick, by the Plymouth American Legion, VFW,
DAV and the South Bend Honor Guard in the Burr Oak cemetery, Burr Oak.

Nevalee DePalma
BREMEN -- Nevalee DePalma, 88, of 316 Woodies, Bremen, died at 5:35 p.m. Sunday, Nov.
20, 2011, at the Bremen Health Care Center.
She is survived by her sons, Carey (Lynn Kehoe) DePalma of Culver; Thomas 'Tom' G. (Julie)
DePalma of Fort Myers, Fla.: five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her sister, Eddie
Reed of Lake City, Fla.
Visitation was Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300
W. Madison St., Plymouth. Burial will be at a later date.
Jack B. Kowatch
CULVER -- Jack B Kowatch, 89, of North Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Culver, passed away
Nov. 20, 2011 at 7:15 a.m. in the Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Fla.
Jack was born Nov. 29, 1921 in Culver. He was one of six children born to John and Vada
(Burch) Kowatch. Jack was married
to Catherine Thornburg. Together they raised their daughter
Sondra. Catherine preceded Jack in death in 1980. Jack later fell in love and married
Joyce
Mikesell, Sept. 4, 1983 at the Maxinkuckee Country Club in Culver.
Jack owned and operated Kowatch Plumbing and Heating in Culver for many years. He
managed the Maxinkuckee Country Club for 34 years, retiring in 2008. He loved playing golf,
woodworking, and building cabinets. He and Joyce wintered in Florida for many years before
making it their permanent home.
Jack is survived by his wife -- Joyce Kowatch of North Fort Myers, Fla.; brothers -- Edward
(Mary) Kowatch and John Kowatch of Culver and James (Beverly) Kowatch of Chicago, Ill.; sonin-law
Leon Bennett of Culver; grandchildren -- Cynthia (Bruce) Carter, Todd (Shaunna)
Bennett, and Trent (Dana) Bennett; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren;
step grandchildren -- Angela Garner, Nancy Greene, and Thomas Guy II; and four step great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Catherine, daughter
Sondra Bennett, and two sisters.
A time of sharing memories with the family will be held at the Culver Bible Church from 9 to 11
a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011.
Rev. Dan Huhn will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the
Culver Masonic cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Jack’s memory to the Culver Bible Church or to Hope Hospice.
The Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements.
