Robin L. Guard
BREMEN -- Robin L. Guard, 52, of Bremen died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at his sister’s
residence in Plymouth.
Survivors include his six children, William (Bobbi) Guard, Jessie Shipley, Sammie (Tony) Bucci
all of Nappanee, Robert Guard, Suzie Guard, Ryan Guard all of Culver; three sisters, Carol
(Richard) Cartwright of Plymouth, Cheryl (Gene) Smirl of Alvin, Texas, April Samuels of Bremen;
one brother, Roger (Shelly) Guard of Plymouth; a paternal grandmother, Lois Joslin of Bremen;
and seven grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at the Mishler Funeral Home. Burial will
be at 10 a.m. the following Monday at Sandridge cemetery in Bourbon.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society or the Salem United Methodist Church
of Bremen.
The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.
Charles N. Prince
LEBANON -- Charles N. Prince, 81, of Lebanon died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at 11:55 a.m. at
Essex Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon of natural causes.
Charles N. Prince was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Feb. 13, 1930. He was the son of the late Orville
and Eugenia Prince.
Mr. Prince was married
to Eldora Jean (Breeding) Prince in Plymouth, June 21, 1953. Mrs.
Prince survives.
Charles was reared and educated in Michigan where he graduated from high school. Later, he
enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War.
Charles’ career spanned nearly 50 years in the propane business. He last served as the
manager of the Ameri-Gas in Bloomington until his retirement in 1992. Mr. and Mrs. Prince
moved to Lebanon recently after being residents of Bloomington for 34 years.
As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather he was happiest spending time with his family. In
Bloomington, he was a member of the Bloomington Gun Club and he also enjoyed archery.
He was a member of the VFW in Bloomington, and St. Paul United Methodist Church in
Bloomington.
Memorial services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at St. Paul United
Methodist Church, 4201 W. 3rd St., in Bloomington.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Prince of Lebanon; two children, Desiree A. Roth and husband,
Frederick J. of Lebanon, Patricia S. Bixler and husband Terry of Ellettsville; two grandchildren,
Joshua and Jason McConnell; and a great-granddaughter, Katie S. McConnell.

Rod A. Martindale
CULVER -- Rod A. Martindale, 80, passed away Sunday the 23rd of October, 2011 in Culver.
He retired from Indiana Bell with more than 30 years of service. Rod was an avid fisherman,
enjoyed remodeling old homes, and always looked forward to buying his next new truck! Oct. 19,
1979 he married
Dollie Keller.
He is survived by his wife Dollie Martindale of Culver. His sister Marilyn Bayman (Al) of South
Bend, his children, Ricky Martindale (Diane) of Walkerton, Robert Martindale (Becky) of South
Bend, and Susan Lovell (Jim) of Manhattan, Mont.; his stepchildren Rae Bonnell (Jeff) of
Monticello, Cindy Kasten (Tom) of Winamac, and Tim Posthuma (Darcie) of Rochester, 11
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard
Martindale of South Bend.
Cremation has taken place, and his ashes will be buried in Culver Masonic cemetery. There will
be no visitation, and a private family service will be held. Rod will be greatly missed by all his
family, and friends.
Byrdie Frances Searfoss
WALKERTON -- Byrdie Frances Searfoss, 87, of 801 Virginia St., Walkerton died at 5:25 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 after an extended illness.
She is survived by six daughters, Donna Ross of Paducah, Ky., Ann Searfoss, Carla (Jack)
Preston and Janet (David) Cooke of Walkerton, Lora (Michael) McMillen and Brenda (Danny)
Calhoun of Plymouth; brother, Norman (Mary) Dreibelbis of LaPorte; daughter-in-law, Janice
Searfoss of Osceola; and 17 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the Walkerton United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011.
Visitation starts at 11 a.m.
Visitation will also be held at A.M. Manuel Funeral Home in North Liberty, Wednesday, Oct. 26,
2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Eastlawn cemetery, North Liberty.
Estella Mae Barnett
KOONTZ LAKE -- Estella Mae Barnett, 76, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 at St. Joseph Regional
Medical Center, Plymouth.
Survivors include six daughters, Martha (Rich) Fosler, Betty (Joe) Adkins, Candy (Larry)
Plummer and Estella McEndarfer all of Koontz Lake, Dolly (Denny) Bailey of Delphi, and
Margaret (Ed) Kean of Plymouth; four sons, Sam (Dana) Dollahan and Jerry (Marty) Dollahan, all
of Koontz Lake, Richard Dollahan of Grovertown and Charles (Yvonne) Dollahan of Warsaw;
one stepdaughter, Joyce Barnett of South Bend; seven sisters, Ann Shidler, Dorothy Spoor,
Pearl Heims, Evelyn Slavery, Carol Calfee, Leona Stone and Nancy Puckett; 22 grandchildren
and 32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. CDT in Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz
Lake Chapel. Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday after 10 a.m. until the time of
services at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Crown Hill cemetery, Knox. In lieu
of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the funeral home.
Dwight C. Hull
STURGIS, Mich. -- Dwight C. Hull, 89, of Sturgis, Mich. died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 at his home.
In 2007, Mr. Hull moved from Elkhart to Sturgis, Mich. and was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran
Church in LaGrange. He had worked as an Internal Auditor for The Associates of South Bend in
South Bend and had been a school teacher.
Mr. Hull was born July 13, 1922 in Sandusky, Ohio to Harry and Louise (Wachtman) Hull. They
preceded him in death.
Aug. 2, 1947 in Mendota, Ill. he married
Grace Lydia Doermann; Mrs. Hull preceded him in death
April 22, 2010.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Stephen Becze of Howe; and five
grandsons, Martin Becze, Michael (Stephanie) Becze, Samuel Becze, Timothy Becze, and
Zachary Becze.
He was also preceded in death by a son, James S. Hull in July of 2000, a brother and a sister.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church,
797 N. Detroit St., LaGrange with Revs. Sandra Hutchens and Glenn Russell officiating.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Burial will be at a later date in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery in Plymouth.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church.

Christopher Alan Holloway
ROCHESTER -- Christopher Alan Holloway, 51, of 6920 E. 500 N., Rochester, died at 5:58 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
He is survived by his father, Richard Holloway of Rochester; and a brother, Richard L. (Lorna)
Holloway of Rochester.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th
St., Rochester. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service in the
funeral home. Burial will be at the Sycamore cemetery, Rochester. Memorials may be made to
Athens United Methodist Church.
Donald Eugene Rans
ROCHESTER -- Mr. Donald Eugene Rans, 82, of 1326 Madison St., Rochester, passed away
Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Don was born in Culver, June 19, 1929, to Fred and Lela Robinson Rans.
With an intrigue for speed, Don enjoyed NASCAR racing. His favorite drivers were the
Earnhardts, Dale Sr. and Dale Jr. and Tony Stewart. A frequent visitor to the Plymouth
Speedway he once was officially introduced to Tony Stewart there. Don also loved horses of all
kinds and attended many horse pulling events around northern Indiana. He could be seen
among the crowds at the horse auctions in Shipshewana.
Keeping abreast with the breaking news was always foremost on Don’s mind. Being locked on
Fox, CNN and HLN were his favorites keeping him on the cutting edge. It was with great pride
that Don wore his 'Obama' ball cap as an avid supporter of our President. During the Gene
Keady era, he cheered for old gold and black going wild for the Boilermakers. Some of his best
times were spent making memories with his granddaughter Abigail Pauline, as they cruised on
their custom made gold cart around their property in the country. Whenever Ron and Penny
needed a hand Don was always there to assist them.
Don is lovingly remembered by a son, Ron Shireman and wife Penny of Rochester, a
granddaughter: Abigail Pauline Shireman, a nephew: Robert Rans and wife Julie of Plymouth,
great nephew and niece: Dustin and Lacey Rans. Numerous cousins also survive. He was
preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Dean Rans.
A celebration of the life of Mr. Donald Rans will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28 in the Good Family
Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with Rev. Rod Ruberg officiating. Visitation is an
hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Don will be laid to eternally rest on the family plot at
the Leiter’s Ford cemetery.
Joseph H. Summerlin
SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. -- Former Plymouth resident, Joseph H. 'Joe' Summerlin, 95, of Sun
City West, Ariz., passed away peacefully Oct. 27, 2011.
Joe was born Jan. 23, 1916, in Missouri where he met and married
, Maurine, the love of his life
for 74 years. Prior to her passing in 2009, they made their homes in Missouri, Indiana, Florida,
and Arizona. While living in Plymouth, during the ‘50s and ‘60s, Joe was a Surge Dairy Farm
Equipment sales and service dealer for central and northern Indiana. He also built the Plymouth
Motel, Mundy’s Restaurant, The Ridge Building, and the Grace Baptist Church.
Family and friends will lovingly recall Joe as a kindhearted, generous man of high principals and
integrity. In life, he earned our deepest respect and love. In memorial, we offer gratitude for
being embraced by his loving spirit. He will be missed beyond measure by his daughters and
sons-in-law, Sherry (Jim) Rogers and Donna (Mickey) Momeyer. His seven grandchildren
Troy(Karen) Hackett, Trent (Julie) Hackett, Tyson (Laura) Rogers, Tynsley (Slade) Smith, and
Scot (Tracy) Moren, Kelli (Glenn) Rhoda, Wynne (Todd) Melton, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private with interment in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Gary Ralph Rothenberger
ROCHESTER -- Gary Ralph Rothenberger, 40, of 1145 Fawn Trail, Rochester died Friday, Oct. 28.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea; daughters, Bridha Rothenberger of Rochester, Jada
Rothenberger of Syracuse, Becca Stevens Bardsley of Chulavista, Calif., Kara Stevens of
Syracuse, Abrianna Leyva of Rochester; sons, Karson Rothenberger and Bentlon Leyva both of
Rochester; brother Adam (Kelly) Rothenberger of Avilla; stepbrothers, Michael McDonald and
Anthony McDonald of Warsaw; and parents, Gilda McDonald of Sarasota, Fla., Dennis and
Elaine Rothenberger of Warsaw.
Funeral service is Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th
St., Rochester. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Kenneth L. Stineback
BOURBON -- Kenneth L. Stineback, 55, of Bourbon, died at 5:13 a.m. Saturday Oct. 29, 2011
at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart. He was born Jan. 22, 1956 in Knox to Robert and
Cristal (King) Stineback.
Surviving is one son, John A. (Pamela) Stineback of Bourbon; three grandchildren, Dylan, Jason
and Violet; three sisters, Mary Alice (James) Meadow of Grovertown, Judy (Chris) Edwards of
Nashville, Jeanette Jelinek of Culver; one brother, Timothy (Christine) Stineback of Leiters Ford;
and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
Kenneth was a member of the NRA and enjoyed coin collecting. He was formerly employed by
the railroad and worked at several foundries.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted
with the cremation arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be given to The Center for Hospice Care-Elkhart.
Minnie Marie Greenlee
BOURBON -- Minnie Marie Greenlee, 87, of Bourbon died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 at 3:01 a.m.
at Bremen Health Care Center.
She is survived by her three daughters; Diane (Kent) Young of Beauford, S.C., Nina (Dennis)
Young of Bourbon, Joyce Cripps of Bourbon and her son Rick (Carman Greenlee) of Bourbon;
and seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A private burial was held Tuesday in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
