KNOX -- Lorene Barnett, 61, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 in IU Health-Starke Hospital, Knox.
Survivors include four sons, Gordon May of Troy, Tenn., and Charles Barnett Jr., Darwin Barnett
and Lacy Barnett, all of Knox; two stepdaughters, Kathy Barnett of LaPaz and Sharon Barnett of
South Carolina; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven sisters, Alene Campbell of
North Judson, Ethel Marshall of Bluegrass, Ky., Wanda Marshall of Kokomo, Irene Swanson,
Kathy Redlark and Charlotte Thompson, all of Knox and Robin Thompson of Tennessee and
one brother, Robert Marshall of Arkansas.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. CDT at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Burial
will be at Round Lake cemetery, Knox. Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral
home.

Ethel Mae Pinks-Feddeler
KNOX -- Ethel Mae Pinks-Feddeler, 73, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 in LaPorte Hospital.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Jo Conley of Winamac; two sons, James Cornwell of
Canton, Ohio and Stephen Kurtis Boone of Clyde, Ohio; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren;
two sisters, Barbara Decker and Cindy Kraus, both of LaPorte; and three
brothers, Virgil Pinks of Georgia, William Pinks of LaPorte and Mack Pinks of Kentucky.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 12 p.m. CDT at the Highway Chapel Church of God. Burial
will be at the Lerch cemetery, Knox. Visitation is Friday at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. and
Saturday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to
the family. Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel is handling arrangements.

James Edward Reeve
WARSAW -- James Edward Reeve of Miller’s Merry Manor, 1630 S. County Farm Road,
Warsaw, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at 10:25 a.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor at the age
of 93.
He was born July 8, 1918 in Hobart to Charles William Reeve and Minnie (Theide) Reeve. Dec.
3, 1946 he was married to Kathryn Naomi Colvin, who passed away April 18, 2009.
James was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 51 years where he was a member of
Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and
was honorably discharged in 1950. He was a member of the American Legion Post #49, VFW
#1126, the Lake City Lions Club, and the Warsaw Moose Lodge #1423.
He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons: James (wife Sheri) Reeve (Pierceton); Dennis
(wife Shelly) Reeve (Warsaw); and one daughter: Darlene (husband Jerry) DeTurk (Warsaw).
He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Michael Reeve (Statesville, N.C.); Scott Reeve
(Houston, Texas); Brian (wife Melanie) Reeve (Garner, N.C.); Jennifer (husband Bill) Lehman
(Warsaw); Matthew (wife Stephanie) Reeve (Fishers); four great-grandchildren; and his halfbrother:
David (wife Barbara) Reeve (Crystal Lake, Ill.). James was preceded in death by his
parents, wife, and one sister.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home,
225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
His funeral service will be conducted Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral
Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor David Hummel. Burial will follow at Oakwood cemetery of
Warsaw with military rites conducted by the Indiana ARNG Honor Guard, and the American
Legion Post #49 and VFW #1126 both of Warsaw.
Memorial donations in James’ name can be directed to the Lake City Lions Club, 294 E. 350
North, Warsaw, IN 46582.

Dean Spicher
MILFORD -- Dean Spicher, 76, Milford, died Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 3:50 p.m., at Lakeland
Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Milford.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Dee Ann Wright and Debra (James) Bear, both of
Columbia City; stepson, Ben (Forretta) Liniger, Milford; stepdaughters, Betsy Morse, Littleton,
Colo., Vicki (Andy) Bishop, Kilauea, Hawaii; five grandchildren; six step grandchildren; four great grandchildren;
six step great-grandchildren; sister, Fran Andrews, Nappanee; brothers, Nevil
'Spike' (Shirley) Spicher, Nappanee, and Kerry (Carolyn) Spicher, Dunlap.
Visitation is Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m., until the 5 p.m. memorial service at Thompson-Lengacher
& Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Inurnment will follow at South Union cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to ADEC in Elkhart.

Hal E. Cinninger
BREMEN -- Hal E. Cinninger, 78, of Bremen died Sept. 28, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie L. Cinninger; children, Pamela Cinninger, Karen Richmond,
Heidi Slessman and Larry Cinninger; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and sister,
Barbara Larson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at Lakeville United Methodist
Church, 601 N. Michigan St., Lakeville. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Palmer Funeral
Home, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville where a Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m.

Elsie Mary Maenhout
BREMEN -- Elsie Mary Maenhout, 84, died of natural causes Wednesday evening, Sept. 28,
2011, at her home on 1st Road, in Bremen.
Elsie was born in Mishawaka Dec. 26, 1926. She was the daughter of Constant and Selma Van
Den Berghe Vervynckt.
Aug. 23, 1947, Elsie and Remie Cyriel Maenhout were married . They met and began their 55-
year marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, South Bend. Remie died Feb. 12, 2002.
Elsie was always working, she tended to the cows, feeding and watering them daily, along with
numerous other chores that needed to be completed around the farm. She also took care of the
large vegetable and flower garden and making sure there was food on the table every day for the
family.
Elsie was an avid reader and was a wonderful seamstress, but most of all she was completely
dedicated to her husband, her son, and the grandchildren. Her biggest joy was being surrounded
by her family.
She is survived by her son, Russell Maenhout, Bremen, and three grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica)
Maenhout, Angie (Emanuel) Reese and Kevin (Amy) Maenhout. Also surviving Elsie are her six
great-grandchildren; Allyson, Ryan Nicholas, Karrissa, Jaisyn, Trisha and Lucas. She was
preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Marsha, a young sister, Clara, two
brothers, August and Achiel and her daughter-in-law, Patty Maenhout.
Visiting will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral
Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Elsie will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Steven
Resner, pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church, Plymouth, will officiate.
Interment will be in the New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice Care, 112 S. Center St.,
Plymouth.

John Schlemmer
BREMEN -- John Schlemmer, 81, of Bremen died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at his residence.
Survivors include wife Gail Schlemmer, son Michael Schlemmer and daughter Debra
Schlemmer, all of Bremen, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011 at the Mishler Funeral Home,
Bremen. Burial will follow at the Bremen cemetery.
Visitation is from noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of your choice.
The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.

Kay F. (Morgan) Smith
PLYMOUTH -- Kay F. (Morgan) Smith, 75, 12482 Olive Trail, a lifetime Plymouth resident, died
in St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011.
Kay was born in Plymouth Oct. 4, 1935, the daughter of Oscar E. and Hazel A. Unger Morgan.
She graduated from LaPaz High School with the class of 1953.
Oct. 23, 1954, Kay and Billy J. Smith were married in her sister's Warsaw home.
Kay was a caring and active person who loved her family, spending time camping, fishing,
hunting mushrooms, attending many sporting events and activities of the grandchildren. She was
a member of a Home Economics Club and enjoyed tending a garden -- both flower and
vegetable -- which led to a large amount of canning that she shared with others.
In earlier times Kay played volleyball, bowled and was a member of the women's softball team in
Plymouth.
She enjoyed traveling in the West and spending time in Florida. She was a member of the
Plymouth Women of the Moose and liked playing cards. She and her husband Bill appreciated
antiques and collected glassware. She was a member of the Plymouth C.B. Radio Club and was
often a Cub fan.
Kay is survived by Billy, her devoted husband of nearly 57 years, and by their son and daughter-in-law,
Robin D. and Diana Smith of Plymouth and their three children: Trenton, Preston and
Trisha.
Their daughter and son-in-law, Carol A. and Mike Stockberger of Walkerton and their children:
Derek, Stacy and Desrah.
Also surviving is Gayle (Mrs. Phillip) Smith, a daughter-in-law of Plymouth, with children,
Elizabeth, Sean and Andrea.
Seven great-grandchildren survive as well.
Five sisters and two brothers also survive. They are Jane Wilson, Greenwood, Mary Ann Orr,
Warsaw, Helen Robinson, Tippecanoe, Barbara (Jake) Elliott, Bourbon and Lois Evans,
Plymouth.
Kay's brothers are Daren (Dorothy) Morgan, Plymouth, and Stanley (Dorothy) Morgan,
Rochester.
Kay was preceded in death by a son, Phillip J. Smith April 26, 2009, a sister, Norma Fillinger,
brothers, Lloyd Morgan and James Richard Morgan and infant brothers; Adrian and Wayne
Morgan.
Visitation with Kay's family will be held Monday, Oct. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Kay will be Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with her
nephew, Rev. Alan Robinson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Kay's memory to ALS Foundation -- Indiana Chapter,
6525 E. 82nd St., Suite 115, Indianapolis, IN 46250.

Hugh M. Vales
HAMLET -- Hugh M. Vales, 64, of Hamlet, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at his home.
He is survived by his two sons, Benjamin (Jennifer) Vales of Mill Creek, James (Rebecca
Petrone) Vales of Hamlet; daughter, Stacey (Daniel) Vales Clemons of LaPorte; one grandson;
two brothers, James (Lucille) Vales of Chicago, Ill., and Kevin Judge Vales of Minneapolis, Minn.
Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, where
visitation will be Monday, Oct. 3, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CDT and 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday,
Oct. 4, 2011 from 11 a.m., until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral
Home, Inc., Tuesday Oct. 4, 2011 at 12 p.m.

Verlen Eugene Bules
ETNA GREEN -- Verlen Eugene Bules, 70, of Etna Green died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 at
11:56 a.m. at home.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; three daughters, Melody Morris of Warsaw, Robin (Rich)
Brunk of Warsaw and June Bules of Plymouth; two grandchildren; a sister, Maxine Binkley and a
brother, Carl Bules both of Florida.
In honoring his wishes his body is being donated to the Indiana University School of Medicine
Anatomical Education Board.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements.

Joann Vest
LAKEVILLE -- Joann Vest, 82, of Lakeville died at 11:50 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 in her
home.
She is survived by five daughters, Wilda Clady of Mishawaka, Donna (Veachel) Stockton of
Mishawaka, Mary Ann (Jim) Williams of Indianapolis, Carol Jean (Mike) Horvath of Lakeville and
Jo Ellen Vest of Lakeville; three sons, Willard Lee (Wendy) Vest, Jr. of Osceola, Bobby (Patti
Gean) Vest of Plymouth and Frankie (Cindy) Vest of Plymouth; 20 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren
and sister, Barbara Jean Jarrett of Kimberly, W.Va.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314
S. Michigan St. Lakeville. Burial will follow in Southlawn cemetery, South Bend. Visitation is from
4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2011 in the funeral home.
Contributions in memory of Joann Vest may be offered to The Center for Hospice Care, 111
Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46635 or the American Diabetes Association, 6415
