Blanche M. Malone

GALATIA -- Blanche M. Malone, 89, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Carrier Mills Nursing Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, with the Rev. Earl Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in Dillingham Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 28, 2004, at Sloan Funeral Home. Mrs. Malone was a homemaker. She was a member of the Dillingham Community Church. She was born on Nov. 29, 1914, in Williamson County, to Charlie Gogue and Martha (Grant) Gogue. She married Kenneth 'Skinny' Malone on Dec. 3, 1932, in Galatia, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1992. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dale Malone and Barbra of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Elbert Thompson of Carrier Mills; one sister, Fern Anderson of Thompsonville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant son, Earl Dean Malone.

Lois Mill

NASHVILLE -- Lois Mill, 74, of Nashville, formerly of Ashley died at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Richmond Heights. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Styninger-Krupp Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Ellison officiating. Burial will be in Beaucoup Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association or to the donors choice.

Judith Gale Ray

MARION -- Judith Gale Ray, 65, of Dandridge, Tenn., met her God on Friday, Nov. 26, 2004. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend who was loved by all and will be missed by many. She is survived by her husband, Don Ray of Dandridge, Tenn.; daughters, Nancy Ray of Knoxville, Tenn., Dona Gibson of Jeferson City, Tenn.; sons, Bob Ray of Tampa, Fla., and Bill Ray of Plant City, Fla.; grandchildren, Zachary and Colin Ray of Tampa, Fla., Megan and Christopher Gibson of Jefferson City; brothers, Gene and Dale Rentfro; sisters-in-law, Loretta, Joyce and Paula Rentfro; as well as many nieces, a nephews and a lifetime of friends of southern Illinois. Judith joins her parents, James and Jessie Rentfro and her brother, Jim Rentfro in heaven. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Mill Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rusty Webster officiating. Interment will follow in Mill Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.

James Allen

BROOKPORT -- James 'Jay' Allen, 80, died at 5:38 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Aikins-Farmer Brookport Funeral Home, with Father Larry McBride officiating. Burial will follow in Pell Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hylea Taylor

McLEANSBORO -- Hylea Taylor, 93, of Davisburg, Mich., formerly of McLeansboro, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, in Riverbed Nursing Home in Blanc, Mich. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Little Springs Cemetery, McLeansboro, with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

Irvin Moffitt

CARBONDALE -- Irvin Moffitt, 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at home. Services will be Tuesday at Boken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy, Hammond Ind. Local arrangements are through the Huffman-Harker Funeral Home.

Kenneth Edwards

CHRISTOPHER -- Kenneth Edwards, 56, died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Gilbert Funeral Home, with Brother Bob Furlow officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Edwards was a welder. He was born on Oct. 28, 1948, in Christopher, to Hampton Edwards and Gladys Stevens. He married Donna Perkins and she survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Chassidy Gosnell of Coello, Dawn Redding of Christopher and Samantha Edwards of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; three stepchildren, Jesse Perkins of Benton, Jacob Perkin of Christopher and Autumn Perkins of Christopher; six grandchildren; one brother, Randy Edwards of Christopher; one sister, Pat Purcell of Rock Island; aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and one son, Steven Edwards.

Steven Edwards

CHRISTOPHER -- Steven Edwards, 20, died at 12:08 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in St. Louis University Hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, with Brother Bob Furlow officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery in Buckner. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Edwards worked as a laborer at Hargis Spraying Service and Cotton Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was born on Jan. 22, 1984, in Benton, to Kenneth Edward and Bonnie Gosnell. Survivors include three sisters Chassidy Gosnell of Coello, Dawn Redding of Christopher and Samantha Edwards of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; four nieces, two nephews and aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Elberta Kloth

CHESTER -- Elberta M. Kloth, 91, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Perry County Nursing Home in Perryville, Mo. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Schroeder-McClure Funeral Chapel in Chester, with the Rev. Mark Willig and Vicar David Kern officiating. Burial will be in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Chester.

Nola Miller

CENTRALIA -- Nola Fay Miller, 98, died at 7:35 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Centralia Manor. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, with John R. Willis officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Calumet Street Christian Church and will be received by the Styninger-Pacey Funeral Home, which is assisting the family with arrangements.

Joann Oestmann

HERRIN -- Joann Oestmann, 67, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at home after a seven-year battle with cancer. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Michael Neubert officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc. or First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Oestmann was born on Sept. 13, 1937 in Herrin, to George Egelberg and Ethel Egelberg. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Jan Oestmann, M. D., of Herrin and Eric and Shelley Oestmann of London, England; five grandchildren, Jenna Oestmann of Herrin, Garrett Oestmann of Herrin, Caleb Oestmann of Kingman, Ariz., Emily Oestmann of Kingman, Ariz., and Nicholas Oestmann of Kingman, Ariz.; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Jeffery Poulter of England. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Wayne Oesymann.

John Pistono

WEST FRANKFORT -- John Pistono, 95, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Westside Care Center in West Frankfort. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with the Rev. Bill Fox officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

William Meade

CARBONDALE -- William T. Meade, 79, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Arrangements are incomplete at Huffman-Harker Funeral Home in Carbondale.

James Thomas 'Tom' Phillips

SPILLERTOWN -- James Thomas 'Tom' Phillips, 59, of Spillertown, was called away by our Lord at 7:13 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at home surrounded by his family and friends. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Shorty Alsip officiating. Burial will be in Coal Bank Springs Cemetery. military rites will be held by VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mr. Phillips was born on Sept. 17, 1945, in New Haven, to Thomas Morgan and Francis Elsie (Hayes) Phillips. He married Pamela Lee Rix on Dec. 14, 1981, in Topeka, Kan., and she survives. Other survivors include one son, Thomas Morgan Phillips of Marion; one daughter, Tiffany Renae Phillips of Spillertown; his mother, Francis Phillips of Mount Vernon; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Bill Brown of Princeton, Ind.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Tim Phillips and Tony and Debbie Phillips and their son Charles, all of Mount Vernon; his father and mother-in-law, Stanley and Genevieve Rix of Marion; three brothers and sisters-in-laws, Gordon and Beverly Clark of Crab Orchard, Gail and Becky Stanley of Orient, and Hank and Melissa Yoast of Blairsville; several nieces and nephews; one great-niece; and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Teddy Joe Phillips. Tom served his country for 12 years in the Army. He retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 1999, where he worked for more than 17 years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on small engines. He was a member of Parish Park Baptist Church.

Joan Nienow

MARION -- Joan P. Nienow, 70, of Marion, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in the Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with Pastor William Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Memorials may be made in her memory to her family for medical expenses. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mrs. Nienow was born on Feb. 2, 1934, in Chicago, to Clarence and Virginia (Woerle) Stell. She married Kenneth Nienow, and he survives. Other survivors include her sons, John Willes of Big Lake, Minn., Alvin Willes of Marion, and Michael Willes of Bartlett; her daughters, Pamela Peck of Mount Morris, Patricia Roth of Sheridan, Tina Corbitt of Yorkville and Michelle Halfpenny of Somonauk; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five sisters, Constance Valenti of Park Forest, Delores Kujawski of Glendale Heights, Beatrice Peters of Marion, Carolyn Thomas of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Ruth Rolseth of West Chicago; and one brother, Norbert Wadsworth of Bullhead City, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Donald Stell; and one sister, Chereen Kelly. Mrs. Nienow attended of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was formerly a real estate broker, and she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Billy 'Rabbit' Shoemake

CHRISTOPHER -- Billy C. 'Rabbit' Shoemake, 80, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, in Select Specialty Hospital in St. Louis. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in Faith Missionary Baptist Church, with Brother Bill Gholson officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial in Du Quoin. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 9 a.m. Monday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Mr. Shoemake was a retired coal miner at Freeman No. 4. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Christopher, where he was also a trustee. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Herrin, the United Mine Workers of America and the American Legion in Christopher. He also belonged to Jolly Jills and Jacks. He was born on Nov. 26, 1923, in Herrin, to Bill Shoemake and Ottie Curtis. He married Joyce Tyner, and she survives. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Tyner, and three sons and one daughter-in-law, Andy and Bonnie Shoemake of Herrin and Randy and Greg Shoemake, both of Herrin. He also served as a loving father to Christie and husband Mark Collins of Herrin, Marsha and husband Ken Hughes of Carbondale, Nancy and husband Tom Bates of Swansea, Cathy and husband Don Shay of Carbondale, and Scott and Amy Shapkoff of Herrin. Other survivors include 13 grandchildren; three sisters, Hattie Girard of St. Louis, Odell Vandermuellen of Carterville and Bessie Brewster of Herrin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
