Orville Kenneth Craig
CAMBRIA -- Orville Kenneth Craig, 77, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at home. Services will be at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 6, 2004, at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Randy Grace officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc. and envelopes will be accepted at the funeral home. Mr. Craig retired in 1990 as a maintenance supervisor at Turco Manufacturing in Du Quoin. Mr. Craig a veteran of the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church in Herrin, the VFW of Herrin, the Herrin American Legion of and Herrin Masonic Lodge No. 693. He was born on April 21, 1927, in De Soto, to Loy Craig and Thelma (Bullar) Craig. He married Doloris (Bense) Craig on Dec. 16, 1989, and she survives in Cambria. Other survivors include two daughters, Linda (Craig) Summers of Seattle and Patty and Harold (Craig) Kirchner of Du Quoin; one son, and daughter-in-law, Bill and Ann Craig of Carbondale; two stepdaughters, Beverly and Jim Cleland of Steeleville and Sharon Metzger of Troy; two stepbrothers, Albert Bryan of Herrin and Mernie Byran of Herrin; one stepsister, Gayle Caravens of Energy; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Ruby (Cain) Craig of Energy.

HURST -- Wesley P. Dryden, 55, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in Hurst. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home in Hurst. Burial will be in the Blairsville Cemetery.
Ruby E. Phemister
CARBONDALE -- Ruby E. Phemister, 94, formerly of Carbondale, passed away at 5:22 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Herrin, with Tom Stearns officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County, where the funds will be used to provide gifts for residents. Ruby was born on Nov. 22, 1910, to George Parrish and Eva (Bradley) Parrish. She married Artie Lee Phemister in 1931, and he preceded her in death in March 1992. Mrs. Phemister was a homemaker and the oldest member of the Drury Christian Church of Carbondale. She loved her family, church, home and her flowers. She is survived by three children Arletta J. Cox and her husband Tom Cox of Murphysboro, Lee Phemister of Murphysboro, and Don Phemister and his wife Mary Phemister of Modesto, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Mark Phemister and his wife Tomi Phemister of Jonesboro, Andrew Phemister of Minnesota, Lyndale Cox and his wife Joan Cox of Murphysboro, Linda Jo Burkey and her husband Sam Burkey of Murphysboro, Keith Phemister, Jonathan Phemister, and Justin Phemister, all of California; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, three sisters, and one brother. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff of the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County for the excellent care that they provided to their mother.
Clarence Helmers
STEELEVILLE -- Clarence Helmers, 83, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in Steeleville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Wine Hill, with the Revs. Edwin A. Reuter and Kathryn Bielfeldt officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today and from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Mr. Helmers was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and the picnic and cemetery committees. He was born on June 17, 1921, in Walsh, the son of Theodore and Hulda Boedeker Helmers. He married Agnes M. Bergfeld on June 5, 1948, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Helmers of Steeleville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harlan and Joyce Helmers of Perryville, Mo., and Steven and Marla Helmers of Steeleville; and three grandsons and their spouses, Jason and Lori Helmers of Millstadt, Matthew and Laura Helmers of St. Mary's, Mo., and Adam Helmers of Edwardsville. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister, Gail Castens. Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or to the American Heart Association.

BROOKFIELD -- Sally R. Bryniarski of Brookfield, formerly of Chicago, was laid to rest Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2003. Sally was the beloved wife of the late Henry J. Bryniarski; mother of Dr. James H. (Dr. Leona M. Hubatch) Bryniarski of Brookfield, Joseph E. (Jill) Bryniarski of Carbondale, Richard J. (Rosemary) Bryniarski of Homer Glen, Dorothy A. (William) Jarosz of Chicago and the late Henry L. Bryniarski; grandmother of Jeff Bryniarski, Amelia Bryniarski, John Bryniarski, Michael Bryniarski, Anna Bryniarski, Walter Jarosz, Pealer Bryniarski and the late Molly Bryniarski.
John Koch
MARION -- John A. Koch, 80, of Niceville, Fla., passed away Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004. He was born in Sikeston, Mo., to Otto and Mable Koch. John was a manufacturing engineer for the Norge Corporation in Herrin for 20 years, then owned and operated Koch Quality Tool and Die Company in Marion until his retirement. In his retirement, John was an inventor and patent holder, inventing the 'Club Aire' Golf Club. He was an avid golfer, having four holes-in-one during his golfing days. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Dr. Charles William Koch; and one sister, Maxine Corbett. Survivors include his wife, Louise Koch of Niceville; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Dianne and Charles DeTomasi of Herrin, Jacqueline Koch of Niceville, Paula and Gary Miller of Johnston City, Marsha and John Schuetz of Atlanta, Ga., and Denni and Steven Dallas of Marion; one brother, Harry Koch of Nashville; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends. A 'Celebration of Life' service was held Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Niceville. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Emerald Coast Hospice, 2529 South Ferdon Boulevard, Crestview, FL 32536.
Lucille Parks
MARION -- Lucille L. Parks, 90, of Marion, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in Helia Health Care in Energy. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in Rose Hill Cemetery
in Marion, with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. There will be no visitation. Blue Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Parks was born on April 22, 1914, in Johnston City, to Billy and Bunleigh Pearce. She married Milo Parks, and he preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jerry W. and Shirley Parks and Tommy Joe Parks; one grandson, John Kevin Parks; and one great-grandson, Darrell Parks. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and two sisters. Mrs. Parks worked at Container Stapling in Herrin for 17 years. She was a Christian.
Billy Agnes (Gunn) Cruse
MOUNDS -- Billy Agnes (Gunn) Cruse passed away on Nov. 27, 1999. She was born on Jan. 23, 1917, in Villa Ridge, the daughter of the late Henry Gunn Sr. and Alys (Gamble) Gunn. At the time of her death, she left her husband, Robert Harold Cruse, who later passed away Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004. Mrs. Cruse was a member of the Eastern Star organization in Illinois. She taught at Thistlewood Elementary School in Mounds through the 1940s and at Jensen Beach Elementary through the late 1950s, '60s, '70s and early '80s. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mikal and Cindy Cruse of Jensen Beach, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Bob Becker of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Joint graveside memorial services for Billy Agnes and Robert Harold Cruse will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, with the Rev. Kelly Cox officiating. Interment will follow. Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge is in charge of the services.
