BELLE RIVE -- John Arthur Johnson, 95, died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Nature Trail Healthcare Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church, with the Revs. Richard McCormick and Norman Howell. Burial will be in Belle-Rive Flint Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made to the Belle-rive Missionary Baptist Church.
Jerry Lee Russell
CENTRALIA -- Jerry Lee Russell, 67, of Centralia, formerly of Herrin, died at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003 in Friendship Manor in Nashville. Jerry was born on Sept. 12, 1935, in Herrin, to Ed and Mabel Rogers Russell. He worked for 40 years as a brick mason. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed fishing, golfing
, woodworking, and gardening. He also loved to barbeque. Survivors include a special friend, Barbara Wharton and her children Stacy Phelps and Steve Nelms of Centralia; two sons and daugters-in-law, Brian and Kim Russell of Springfield, and Kent and Chris Russell of Herrin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelley and Kevin Eveland of Overland Park, Kan., and Jerri and Tommy Stritzel of Johnston City; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Reba Brown of Wisconsin, Audry and Tom Hamilton of Naples, Fla., Drucella and Harley Helms of Herrin, Betty and John Beltz of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Dorothy Laurel of California; three brothers and a sister-in-law, EC and Melba Russell of Herrin, Buck Russell of Herrin, and Donald Russell of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Cindy Smith, sisters, Mary and Beverly Russell, and brothers, Basil and Clifford "Tubby" Russell. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Herrin City Cemetery, with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will be in the cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

JOHNSTON CITY -- Jim Wallace, 60, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003, at home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, in Lakeview Cemetery, with the Rev. Barry Barker officiating. There will be no visitation, friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Jim was born on March 13, 1943, in Crab Orchard, the son of Luther and Vena (Sanders) Wallace. He married Loretta Gibbs on Dec. 30, 1964, in Johnston City, and she survives. He is also survived by five children and one spouse, Lori and Bill Moore, and Danny, Deanna, Robin, and Larry; nine grandchildren, Dakota, Levi, Kristen, Cody, Ryan, Nathan, Joshua, Miranda, and Kelly; one sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Ronald Dahmm of Morton; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Delbert and Sue Wallace of Mossville, and Charlie and Darlene Wallace of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, and two brothers. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.

hunting and fishing. He was also a NASCAR fan. He was born on June 9, 1965, in Herrin to Jim Judd and Linda Prather. Survivors include his mother and father, Linda and Chuck Halley of Herrin; father, Jim Judd of De Soto and stepmother, Janice; lifetime companion, Norma Rich Kerley of Bush; maternal grandmother, Muriel Prather of Herrin; his children, Gretchen Kerley of Bush and J. R. Kerley, Justin and Tausha Kerley, and Angel Messick, all of Hurst; grandchildren, Billy and Victoria Kerley and Chloe Messick; two brothers, Scott Judd of Herrin and Charlie Judd or De Soto; two sisters, Charlotte Anderson of Herrin and Jamie Halstead of Hurst; a stepsister, Robin Beers of Thompsonville; nieces and nephews; his special aunt, Bessie Perryman; and special friend Jimmy Eldridge. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lizzie and John Judd; his grandfather, Romal Prather; and a stepsister, Krystal Halley.
Esther Richey
MARION -- Esther Richey, 93, went home to be with her Lord at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Parkway Manor in Marion. Esther was born April 04, 1910, in Williamson County to Pierce and Bertha Mae (Manier) Richey. Esther was a homemaker. Esther was a lifetime member of the Coal Bank Springs Church where she taught Sunday School for 22 years. Survivors include a nephew and his fiance Larry Jochum and Linda Davis of Pittsburg; two great-nephews, Brian Jochum and Johnny Jochum; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eva (Jochum) Barter; and one brother, Wayman Richey. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003 in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Tim Culver officiating. Burial will follow in Coal Bank Springs Cemetery. HERRIN -- Jessie Richardson Draper, 95, died at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in her daughter's residence in Herrin. Jessie was born Feb. 22, 1908, in Plumfield, to Elvis & Annie Karnes Appleton. She first married Earl Richardson and he preceded her in death. She later married Robert B. Draper on Oct. 12, 1947, in Mississippi. He preceded her in death in 1972. Mrs. Draper was a homemaker. She was a member of the Herrin First Christian Church. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Paralee and Joe Miller of Lakeside, Calif., and Randee and Robert Ellis of Herrin; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Bernice Richardson of Twin Falls, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two daughters, Imogene Shaffer and Shirley Schrager; two sons, Jack Albert Richardson and Chris Alan Draper; three brothers; and two grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. today in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery.
