Zack Ray Roberts
PADUCAH -- Zack Ray Roberts, 21, passed away in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Aug. 4, 2002. He was born on June 5, 1981, in San Diego, Calif., to , Sharee Dawn and Chuck Roberts. Zack was an avid music enthusiast and played the acoustic guitar and electric bass guitar. Zack was an outdoor adventurer having hiked in the Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks, the Gorge, the Hualapai Mountains and the Grand Canyon. Zack also liked camping canoeing and boating. He graduated from Paducah Community College with an associate degree and had moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., to attend Northern Arizona University majoring in Park and Recreation Management. Zack is survived by parents; his sister, Danielle; his grandmother, Jamie R. Roberts; and his great grandmother, Thelma Vaughn; all of Paducah; and his grandparents, Kay and Rodell Rhine of Cobden. Zack is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and so many many friends. Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Zack's parents' property, south of Alto Pass, west of Highway 127, on Brown Section Road. Signs will be posted. All family and friends are welcome. Following the service everyone is invited to Bald Knob Cross at 5:30 p.m. where there will be food and fellowship celebrating Zack's Life.
Donald E. Capel
CARRIER MILLS -- Donald E. Capel, 67, of Spring Lake, Mich., formerly of Carrier Mills, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at his home in Spring Lake. Mr. Capel was born February 15, 1935, the son of Curtis Capel and Helen Dallas Capel. He worked at the ReMax Real Estate Agency in Grand Haven, Mich., and had previously worked in the wholesale grocery business with Roundy's. He served on the Carrier Mills Village Board, was a former school board member, and was a lifetime member of the Carrier Mills Fire Department. He attended the First Baptist Church in Carrier Mills. Mr. Capel was preceded in death by his father in 1967. He is survived by his mother, Helen Capel, of Carrier Mills; a daughter, Mrs. Amy Murphy and her husband Glenn of Harrisburg; a son, John C. Capel of Vienna; one brother, Wilburn Capel and his wife Janet of Anna; and three grandchildren, Nathan and Brynna Murphy of Harrisburg and Arla Capel of Murray, Ky. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. The Rev. Kim Capel will officiate. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery
in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Carrier Mills Fire Department in his memory.

MURPHYSBORO -- Rev. W. Louis Purcell, 91, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Murphysboro. THOMPSONVILLE -- Ronald Gene Perkins, 60, died at 5:39 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at home. Mr. Perkins was born Jan. 17, 1942 in Coello, Ill., the son of Lloyd and Nancy (Putnam) Perkins. He was married to Brenda Maulding, who survives. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thompsonvile. Besides his wife, Mr. Perkins is survived by one son, Todd Dixon, of Scheller; one daughter, Tammy Marlo, of Sesser; one brother, Jack Perkins, of Granite City; one sister, Barbara Smith, of Valier, and six grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Ronald L. Perkins, and two brothers, Robert Perkins and Eddie Perkins. Mr. Perkins was a retired mechanic. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Thompsonville, with Rev. David Schlag and Brother Larry Cook officiating. Interment will be at the Mulkeytown Cemetery. The body will lie in state after 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, at the Gilbert Funeral home. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Mrs. Little was born Aug. 13, 1916, near Olmstead, to Alex and Regina (Schoenborn) Ulrich. She married Burrell Little. She had been employed by Mable Lauder's Income Tax Service of Grand Chain, and also by the Vaughn Dennis Garage. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Hobert Ellis of Newport, Ore.; one son and daughter-in-law, Burrell Jr. and Rachel Little of Anna; two sisters, Helen Gore of Paducah and Rosemary O'Keefe of Vienna; two brothers, Dr. Eugene Ulrich of Grand Chain and Dr. Clarence Ulrich of Dongola; four grand children; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents; her husband; three brothers, Rex Ulrich, James "Son" Ulrich, and Dr. Edward "Beebe" Ulrich; and one sister, Florence Currans. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane Shragal; three cousins, Andy Conkovich of Louisville, Ky., Jerry Conkovich of Johnston City and Charles Walton of Paducah; one aunt, Ruby Conkovich of Johnston City; four stepchildren, Lynette Evans, Tina Little, and Kevin and Elaine Kiebler, all of Paducah; six step-grandchildren, all of Paducah; a special young man, Colt McVey of Johnston City; and three special friends, Larry Littlepage, Raymond Barham and Robert E. Bell. His parents preceded him in death.
