Gertrude Nissen of Hoffman Estates
Private family services will be held for Gertrude Nissen (nee Kand), 98, formerly of Norwood Park.
Born Sept. 8, 1900, in Austria, she died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at The Benchmark of Hoffman Estates. It was her wish that her body be donated to Northwestern School of Medicine.
She was the wife of60 years of the late Chris; mother of the late Thomas K. (Dorothy) Nissen of Des Plaines; grandmother of Judy (Dick) Brady of Roselle, Thomas C. (Elizabeth) Nissen of Laramie, Wyo. and Laurie (Mike) Riccardi of Streamwood; great-grandmother of Tricia, Amy and Robert; and sister of the late Charles, Helen and Hilda.

John Joseph O'Brien of Arlington Heights
A Mass of the Resurrection and celebration of the lifeof John Joseph O'Brien, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 432 W. Park St., Arlington Heights. The family will receive friends in the gathering room of the church at 9:30 a.m.
Born Oct. 29, 1929, in Chicago, Mr. O'Brien died at home Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999.
He attended St. Rita High School and St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Ind.
He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the
Army Corps of Engineers during the
Korean War. He was president of the Financial Planning group, Ltd. in Rosemont.
He was the most beloved husband and the joy of life to Mary `Geri' O'Brien for 47 years. Survivors include his devoted daughters, Kate (Don) Moretti, Karen (Mark) Quebbeman and Kelly (Larry) Noffke; grandchildren, Lauren and Liz Moretti, Patrick and Alexis Quebbeman and Spencer Noffke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. Sr. and Viola O'Brien; and sister, Diane Boggio.
John will be happily remembered by his relatives and friends for his sense of humor and admired for his integrity and compassion. He was in every sense `A Gentleman.' Please omit flowers.

Emma was a member of the First Congregational Church of Geneva United Church of Christ and a life member of Fox Valley Chapter #265 Order of the Eastern Star. She was united in marriage to Eugene Payne on Jan. 19, 1928, in her home in Geneva.
She is survived by her sons, Rollin (Naden) Payne of Geneva, Barton Payne of Geneva and Charles (Susan) Payne of Sycamore; sister, Eleanor Johnson of Batavia; grandchildren, Eugene, Julie, Jan, Stephanie, Jeffrey and Melissa; and great-grandsons, Jonathan and Benjamin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; brothers, William, Albin, Elmer and Leonard; and sisters, Alma and Hilda.

Frances Pfrenger of Libertyville

Mrs. Pfrenger was the former owner of Frances's and William's Beauty Salons which were located on the northwest side of Chicago and a member of St. Joseph Parish in Libertyville.
She was the wife of the late William, who preceded her in death in 1971; mother of Dorothy (Norman) Lind of Libertyville and Doris Pfrenger of Lake Zurich; grandmother of Michael (Mary) Lind of Mundelein, Anne Marie (Oliver) Valente of Orland Park and Christine Lind of Buffalo Grove; great-grandmother of Tess and Paige Valente; and sister of Frank Schnaufer of River Grove and Magdelen Lamping of Crystal Lake.

Mrs. Pillow had retired from Pioneer Press after many years of dedicated service.

Sharon `Sherry' A. Ruiz of Batavia

Born May 20, 1935, in Seattle, Wash., the daughter of Elton and Dorothy (nee Oswalt) Ellis, she went to be with the Lord, Jesus Christ, Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, after a long pulmonary illness.
She died at Provena Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora.
Sherry was a graduate of the Trinity Lutheran High School in Chicago. She had been a 30-year resident of Batavia and was employed at Pheasant Run in St. Charles as the catering associate from the first day the resort opened in June 1967, until her illness began in December 1993. Sherry was an antique nut and was active at the Kane County Flea Market from the opening day until her illness began. She loved people and always put her whole heart in her job.
The last two years of her illness, she resided at Aurora Manor, where she leaves behind many friends who became like her second family.
Survivors include her daughter, Dottie Russell of Batavia; son, Mike McDade Russell; and grandson, Matthew Davis of Lombard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Russell; and granddaughter, Tara Lynn Russell.

Mrs. Scott was a homemaker whoretired from the Warrenville Post Office in 1996 after 22 years as a postal clerk. She was a member of WarrenvilleVFW Post #8081 Ladies Auxiliary, and a former member of Community Baptist Church of Warrenville and the Napervilleand Sandwich Ladies of the Moose Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Donald B. `Scotty' Scott of Gravois Mills, Mo.; children, Gary Blake (Kathy) Scott of Aurora, Mark Allen (Donna) Scott of Sandwich, Neal Thomas (Sigrid) Scott of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Kati R. Elmer G. Tannery of Naperville

Born April 13, 1908, in rural Wheaton, he died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Mr. Tannery worked at Naperville Cemetery
as a Sexton for a number of years and served on the board of the Naperville Cemetery
Association. Mr. Tannery was a graduate of the University of Chicago with a degree in business and worked as an accountant for the Netzley Chrysler Dealership in Naperville fora number of years. He retired from Pure Oil Company after 20 years of service and also retired from American Machine and Foundry.
He served his country with the
Army during World War II and was a member of The Naperville Congregation Church, former board member of the Naperville YMCA and charter member of the Naperville Evening Kiwanis Club.
For more than 50 years, he was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #705 in Aurora and Lodge #1212 in Mendota. He was the former district deputy of North/Eastern district of Elks, member of American Legion #43 in Naperville and 25-year member of the Moose Lodge #400 in Aurora.
Survivors include his wife, Verna (nee Meisinger) of Naperville; son, Robert of Sebastian, Fla.; daughter, Alva Jean Chastain of Naperville; sister, Clara Tannery of Naperville; grandchildren, Jason and Micah Tannery, Tracy Gentile and Steven Chastain; and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Aly and Alex Gentile.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alvina (nee Hesterman) Tannery.
