CLINTON -- Karl Matthew Brennan, 80, of Clinton died 7:50 a.m. Tuesday (April 22, 2003) in DeWitt County Nursing Home, Hallsville.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Jim Dann officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Weldon Cemetery

Mr. Brennan was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Lane, the son of Harry Russell and Elsie Darsham Brennan. He was an
Army Air Corps veteran. He was affiliated with Lane Christian Church and a member of Golden Years Fellowship Club of the church and the ABC Clinton Bowling League. He worked for McDonnell Douglas aircraft and was a car foreman for ICG Railroad, retiring after 36 years. Mr. Brennan served as an election judge for the DeWitt County Board in Creek Township. He was a dedicated bowler, an avid Chicago Cubs fan, a loving husband and father and a doting grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He married Frances L. Brewer on May 30, 1953, in Clinton.
Surviving are his wife; daughter, Karla (Ed) Brady of Clinton; son, Robert (Jill) Brennan of Clinton; grandchildren, Matthew Brady, E.J. Brady, Elizabeth Brady, Justin Brady, Megan Brady, Molly Brady, Chad Brennan, Cody Brennan and Caleb Brennan; great-grandson, Brennan Brady; sisters, June Rickgauer of Tucson, Ariz.; Rita (Loren) Riddle of Clinton; brothers, Frederick Brennan and Glenn (Linda) Brennan, all of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Chapman
ATWOOD -- James Butler Chapman, 69, of Mooresville, N.C., died April 18, 2003, in his home.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Friday in Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, with the Rev. Richard Woolworth officiating with military rites. There will be no visitation. Hilligoss-Shrader Funeral Home, Atwood, is in charge of arra

Mr. Chapman was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Salisbury, N.C., the son of Eugene and Mabel Reading Chapman. He served in the Navy during the
Korean War, then served in the Air Force, retiring in 1974 after 22 1/2 years of total service. He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and Non-Commissioned Officers Association. He received a degree from the University of South Carolina in 1985. After his retirement from service, he later retired as an instructor of industrial electronics at Florence/Darlington Technical College in Florence, S.C. Mr. Chapman was a member of St. David's Masonic Lodge in Darlington, S.C.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Janice Burcham Chapman; sons, Kyle Matthew Chapman of Mooresville; Ryan James Chapman of Boone, N.C.; daughter, Cynthia Robin Hanson of Salisbury; brother, Mitchell Chapman of Gastonia, N.C.; two grandchildren; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Berniece Burcham of Oakley; brother-in-law, Eugene Burcham of Springfield; three nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mark David Chapman; and brother, Bobby Chapman.
Guthrie
SIDELL -- Virginia Guthrie, 78, Sidell, hospital employee, died Tuesday (April 22, 2003).

Hise
STONINGTON -- Charles "Clo" Hise Sr., 93, of Washington, Ill., died 8:25 a.m. Thursday (April 24, 2003) in Washington Christian Village.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Mount Hawley Community Church, Peoria, with the Rev. Tom Malbone officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Mason-White Funeral Home, Washington, Ill., and one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, Washington, Ill. Memorials: Mount Hawley Community Church.
Mr. Hise was born June 22, 1909, in Stonington, the son of Charles U. and Lorena A. Weisser Hise. He worked for Caterpillar Inc. in their East Peoria facility as a machinist. He retired from Caterpillar in 1975, after 38 years. Mr. Hise was a member of Mount Hawley Community Church. Most of his life, he served as a teacher, usher, council member, trustee and friend at his church. He married Fern Stringfield on Nov. 14, 1936, in Decatur. They enjoyed more than 66 years of marriage together.
Surviving are his wife; daughter, Cloanne (Richard) Mason of Washington, Ill.; son, Charles (Marty) Hise Jr. of Yorba Linda, Calif.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Keenan-Mahin
ST. ELMO -- Betty Jo Keenan-Mahin, 79, of St. Elmo died 9:40 p.m. Wednesday (April 23, 2003) in St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in First Assembly of God Church, St. Elmo. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in Kull Funeral Home, St. Elmo, and one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, St. Elmo. Memorials: First Assembly of God Church.
Mrs. Keenan-Mahin was born March 31, 1924, in Graham, Okla., the daughter of John and Vera Pruitt McCortney. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church since 1945 and was very active in numerous church organizations over the years. She was a housewife and assisted her late husband in raising a family. She married Homer O. Keenan on July 5, 1941. He preceded her in death June 8, 1980. She then married Orville Eugene Mahin on Dec. 16, 1989, in First Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are her husband; son, Bobby Keith (Janet) Keenan of Harristown; daughters, Quita (Jerry) Moulton of Chebanse; LaJona (John) Graner of Tucson, Ariz.; stepdaughter, Nancy (Eddie) Baker of Atlanta; sister, Goldie (John) Knudsen of St. George, Utah; grandchildren, Tanya (Steve) Walker; Bryan (Stephanie) Keenan; Shannon (Steve) Hull; Dallas Keenan; Trever (Randy) VanBatavia; Marcus (Sharon) Keenan; Aaron (Paula) Keenan; LaRay Graner; stepgrandchildren, Amy and Adam Baker; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Chase and Grace Walker; Alex and Shelby Keenan; Jaelen and Baylee Hull; Peter Van Batavia; Aaronmichael Keenan; great-stepgrandchildren, Cindy and Nichole.

Mr. Black was born Nov. 26, 1965, in Vandalia, the son of Dennis Black and Judy Ritter Burks. He was a molder for Owens-Brockway Inc., Vandalia, and a member of the Baptist Church, Shobonier, and National Rifle Association.
Surviving are his father of Shobonier; mother and stepfather, Judy and Orville Burks of Shobonier; brother, Matthew Black of Vandalia; grandfather, Bert Ritter of Shobonier.

Agnes was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Gideon, Mo., the daughter of John William and Lillian Bell Humes Rutledge. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Second Church of God and Wabash Fellowship Club, originator of Soy City Breakers and C.B. club in 1975, volunteer for the Red Cross, Salvation
Army, and an avid Chicago Cub Fan. Agnes was married for nearly 57 years to John Edward Barber Sr., before he preceded her in death Feb. 6, 1988.
Surviving are her daughters, Joan (Don) Pierson of Homosassa, Fla.; Elaine "Kay" Stark of Springfield; sons, John (Beverly) Barber Jr. of Decatur; Donald Lee (Kay) Barber of Homosassa; Richard (Judy) Barber of Decatur; Ray (Gloria) Barber of Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Dorothy Ellrick of Decatur; grandchildren, Vicki (John) Gulick; Mike (Lisa) Barber; Cathy (Scott) Page; Traci (Mike) Anderson; Todd (Kelly) Barber; Tony (Linda) Barber; Craig (Kelly) Barber; Brad (Catherine) Barber; Jennifer (fiance Todd Hess) Barber; Donna Jo (Walt) Marlow; Shaun Stark; Steve (Amber) Stark; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She loved most in life the time spent with children and grandchildren, all of whom will miss her greatly.
