DECATUR -- David H. Major, 58, of Maumelle, Ark., formerly of Decatur, passed away March 26, 2003.

Memorial services were held. Griffin Leggett Healey Roth Funeral Home, Little Rock, Ark., is in charge of arrangements.

He was a devoted husband to Pamela Sims Major and father to Scott David Major and Krista Leenell Major.

Maxeiner

DECATUR -- Jeanette Moore Maxeiner, 86, Decatur, retired from J.C. Penney Inc., died Thursday (April 17, 2003).

Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation: one hour before Mass. Burial: Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements by: J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Baum

CLINTON -- Stephen R. Baum, 46, Clinton, died Saturday (April 19, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

Buehnerkemper

TEUTOPOLIS -- Clair J. "Tip" Buehnerkemper, 77, Teutopolis, retired from World Color Press, died Wednesday (April 16, 2003).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, St. Francis Catholic Church, Teutopolis. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the church with 6:30 p.m. parish wake services and 7:30 p.m. rosary. Burial: St. Francis Cemetery, Teutopolis, with military rites. Arrangements by: Bauer Funeral Home, Teutopolis. Memorials: donor's choice.

World War II Marine veteran. Member: St. Francis Catholic Church and Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council 2874. Survivors: wife, Mildred; sons, Mike, Jeff, Brad and Tom, all of Teutopolis; Kurt and Dan, both of Effingham; daughter, Elaine Siegel, Vernon Hills; sister, Lois Liddy, Indianapolis, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents, one brother and one sister.

HERRICK -- Sandra "Sandy" Davis, 42, Herrick, died Friday (April 18, 2003).

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wallace-Carroll Funeral Home, Herrick. Visitation: two hours before services. Burial: Ramsey Cemetery. Memorials: Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Survivors: son, Ryan Davis, Omaha, Neb.; daughters, Sondra Davis and Tara Davis Tackett, both of Herrick; brothers, Robert Donaldson, Rapid City, S.D.; Dean Donaldson, Assumption; sisters, Carol Britton, Herrick; Diane Donaldson, Springfield; grandmother, Martha Robertson, Pana; two grandchildren. LERNA -- Anna Hervey, 57, Lerna, died Friday (April 18, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, Mattoon.

LINCOLN -- Naomi C. Hinkley, 96, Lincoln, former Florida state comptroller's office employee, died Friday (April 18, 2003).

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and one hour before services. Burial: New Union Cemetery, Lincoln. Memorials: Zion Lutheran Building Fund or Christian Village, Lincoln.

EFFINGHAM -- Mary Eleanor James, 79, Effingham, retired teacher, died Friday (April 18, 2003).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, and one hour before services in the church. Burial: Oakridge Cemetery, Effingham. Memorials: Hospice of Lincolnland or American Cancer Society.

McClure

BINGHAM -- Nelvin L. McClure, 60, Bingham, Horace Mann Insurance administrator, died Thursday (April 17, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Bayle City Baptist Church. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Miller Funeral Home, Ramsey. Burial: Mount Carmel Cemetery, Ramsey. Memorials: to the family or donor's choice.

Survivors: wife, Joy; sons, Shawn Emory McClure, Fort Collins, Colo.; Seth Naaman McClure, Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters, Polly JoNel McClure, Urbana; Heidi JoLea and Gretchen Maria McClure, both of Mattoon; sisters, Doris Moreland, Tucson; Edith Reindl, Ramsey. Preceded by: parents.

Stayton

PANA -- Hazel M. Stayton, 95, of Pana died 6 p.m. Friday (April 18, 2003) in Prairie Rose Health Care Center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana, with the Revs. Larry Myers and Clyde Kallal officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials: Prairie Rose Activity Fund.

Mrs. Stayton was born July 10, 1907, in Irving, the daughter of James and Candice Young Hudson. She was the last of 16 children. She went to Decatur as a young lady and later to Pana in 1989. She was a retired florist for Dauts Flower Shop in Decatur, and later operated a floral shop with her husband and sister in Arthur. She was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church. She married Raymond Stayton. He preceded her in death in 1982.

Surviving are her niece, Marilyn Vits of Pana; cousin, Ilene Fuller of Hillsboro; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Gruen, Fairy "Sally" Moore, Emma Benning, in addition to four other sisters, eight brothers and her husband.

Young

ROBINSON -- Marie D. Young, 89, Robinson, former Robinson city clerk's office employee, died Friday (April 18, 2003).

Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson. Visitation: two hours before services. Burial: Robinson New Cemetery.

Lofland

SULLIVAN -- John LeRoy Lofland, 98, Sullivan, died Friday (April 18, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan.

Utley

OLNEY -- Max Albert Utley, 55, Olney, died Friday (April 18, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Olney.

Weber

EFFINGHAM -- Ella L. Weber, 94, Effingham, formerly of Edgewood, died Saturday (April 19, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Pagel Funeral Home, Edgewood.

Gifford

DECATUR -- Pvt. Jonathan Lee Gifford, 30, of Decatur passed away March 23, 2003, while serving his country in Iraq.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Maranatha Assembly of God with visitation 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the church. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, with full military rites. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Lexie LeeAnn Gifford or Operation Enduring Support Group.

Jonathan was born Oct. 30, 1972, in Decatur, the son of John and Vicky Godfrey Gifford. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1991. He worked for Archer Daniels Midland Co. before enlisting in the Marine Corps on Oct. 23, 2001.

Surviving are his daughter, Lexie LeeAnn Gifford; former wife, Vickey; father, John Gifford and wife Carol of Decatur; mother, Vicky Langley and husband Tim of Decatur; sisters, Valerie Gifford and Tiffany Blastenbrei and husband Marine Staff Sgt. Todd Blastenbrei, all of Decatur; nephew, Mason Gifford of Decatur; grandparents, Ronald and Peggy Gifford and William and Reva Godfrey Jr., all of Decatur; many other family members who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Janet Gould, and sister, Jennifer.

Grandfield

DECATUR -- Eddie J. Grandfield, 69, Decatur, died Sunday (April 20, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home.

Kupish

DECATUR -- William E. Kupish Sr., 83, Decatur, former U.S. Postal Service employee, died Saturday (April 19, 2003).

Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home with 5:45 p.m. vigil prayer service. Burial: Calvary Cemetery with military rites. Memorials: St. Patrick Catholic Church or DMH Home Health & Hospice Services.

Pryde

DECATUR -- Jacqueline Louise Pryde, 71, of Decatur died 4:50 p.m. Thursday (April 17, 2003) in Carle Hospital, Urbana.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: First Lutheran Church Christian Education Fund.

Mrs. Pryde was born March 3, 1932, in Decatur, the daughter of Clifford and Lillian Morris Ferris. She attended Decatur schools and graduated from Miller IBM School in Dallas, Texas, where she was active in school affairs. After raising her children, she was employed by Reserve Insurance Co., Bankers Insurance Co., Filter Queen Co. and State Farm Insurance Co. She modeled for the B Line Co., Holiday Inn East Springfield and Golden Fashions. She was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church and was past secretary of Woman's ELCA. She taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir from 1956 to 1980. She volunteered for St. Mary's Hospital, state of Illinois and, most recently, Medicare Outreach Communities. After returning to First Lutheran Church, she served on several committees.

Surviving are her sons, Thomas M. Shaw and wife Nancy and granddaughter Teri, all of Houston, Texas; Brian Shaw and sons Jason and Jeffery, all of Decatur; daughter, Marcia Rucker and children Bob, Kimmy, Jimmy, Brandi, Ashley and Holley; mother, Lillian Carr of Bristol, Va.; brother, Clifford Ferris Jr. of Bristol.

She was preceded in death by her father; first husband, William Shaw; second husband, Raymond Jim Pryde; one sister and one brother.

Mattingly

DECATUR -- Beatrice Helen Pate Mattingly, 80, Decatur, retired from Sunshine Dairy, died Thursday (April 17, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial: Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials: DMH Home Health & Hospice Services or American Cancer Society.
