Mrs. Stayton was born July 10, 1907, in Irving, the daughter of James and Candice Young Hudson. She was the last of 16 children. She went to Decatur as a young lady and later to Pana in 1989. She was a retired florist for Dauts Flower Shop in Decatur, and later operated a floral shop with her husband and sister in Arthur. She was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church. She married Raymond Stayton. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Surviving are her niece, Marilyn Vits of Pana; cousin, Ilene Fuller of Hillsboro; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Gruen, Fairy "Sally" Moore, Emma Benning, in addition to four other sisters, eight brothers and her husband.

DECATUR -- Pvt. Jonathan Lee Gifford, 30, of Decatur passed away March 23, 2003, while serving his country in Iraq.

Jonathan was born Oct. 30, 1972, in Decatur, the son of John and Vicky Godfrey Gifford. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1991. He worked for Archer Daniels Midland Co. before enlisting in the Marine Corps on Oct. 23, 2001.
Surviving are his daughter, Lexie LeeAnn Gifford; former wife, Vickey; father, John Gifford and wife Carol of Decatur; mother, Vicky Langley and husband Tim of Decatur; sisters, Valerie Gifford and Tiffany Blastenbrei and husband Marine Staff Sgt. Todd Blastenbrei, all of Decatur; nephew, Mason Gifford of Decatur; grandparents, Ronald and Peggy Gifford and William and Reva Godfrey Jr., all of Decatur; many other family members who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Janet Gould, and sister, Jennifer.

DECATUR -- Jacqueline Louise Pryde, 71, of Decatur died 4:50 p.m. Thursday (April 17, 2003) in Carle Hospital, Urbana.

Mrs. Pryde was born March 3, 1932, in Decatur, the daughter of Clifford and Lillian Morris Ferris. She attended Decatur schools and graduated from Miller IBM School in Dallas, Texas, where she was active in school affairs. After raising her children, she was employed by Reserve Insurance Co., Bankers Insurance Co., Filter Queen Co. and State Farm Insurance Co. She modeled for the B Line Co., Holiday Inn East Springfield and Golden Fashions. She was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church and was past secretary of Woman's ELCA. She taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir from 1956 to 1980. She volunteered for St. Mary's Hospital, state of Illinois and, most recently, Medicare Outreach Communities. After returning to First Lutheran Church, she served on several committees.
Surviving are her sons, Thomas M. Shaw and wife Nancy and granddaughter Teri, all of Houston, Texas; Brian Shaw and sons Jason and Jeffery, all of Decatur; daughter, Marcia Rucker and children Bob, Kimmy, Jimmy, Brandi, Ashley and Holley; mother, Lillian Carr of Bristol, Va.; brother, Clifford Ferris Jr. of Bristol.
She was preceded in death by her father; first husband, William Shaw; second husband, Raymond Jim Pryde; one sister and one brother.
