White-Winston
DECATUR -- Joyce Marie White-Winston, 64, of Decatur, formerly of Muncie, Ind., went home to Glory on Tuesday (March 11, 2003) in her home.
Home Going Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Church of the Living God PGT Temple 3 with the Rev. Calvin Peppers officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Joyce was born Feb. 1, 1939, in Muncie, Ind., the daughter of the late Smith and Edith Thompson Jr. She was a former member of New Salem Baptist Church and later joined the Church of the Living God PGT Temple 3. She married Karl D. Sims of Muncie in 1958. She moved to Decatur in 1968, where she met Ezell E. White, whom she married May 26, 1974, to whom she kept the promise of "until death do us part." She later married Richard "Tony" Winston. She was retired from Caterpillar Inc. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
She leaves only loving memories to all who knew her. Blessed to be left with loving memories of her are her daughters, Karla Jelks and Lisa Sims (Robert "June" Neal) of Decatur; brother, Ronald (Karen) Thompson of Muncie; stepchildren, Larry (Pam) White, Ricky (Linda) White, Lue Cindy White, Sherry Ridley and Vernell Ridley, all of Decatur; Ezette (White) Banks of Springfield; Gwendolyn White, Barbara White, Anthony "Red" White, Undra White, Bradley White and Ezell White Jr., all of Chicago; one niece; one nephew; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ezell; brother, Curtis Thompson.
Joyce's family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Estrada-Garcia and the DMH oncology staff for their holistic care of our loved one.

DECATUR -- Howard I. Stuart, 74, of Decatur, died 4:45 p.m. Wednesday (March 12, 2003) in his residence.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, with military rites. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Cerro Gordo, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials to donor's choice.
Howard was born July 24, 1928, in Decatur, the son of Homer E. and Dolly J. Bell Stuart. He retired as a painter from A.E. Staley Mfg. Co., where he worked for 27 years, was a member of the Moose Lodge 684, served in the Air Force in the
Korean War and was an avid poker player. He married Betty Lou Clark in 1968 in Decatur.
Surviving are his wife; children, David K. Stuart and wife Linda, Richard L. Stuart, and Carol Osborne, all of Decatur; stepchildren, Ralph F. Clark, Lyle E. Clark, Nettie Fowler and husband Keith, all of Decatur; Anna M. Morgan and husband Marty of Florida; grandchildren, Travis and Erica Miller, Stephanie Renfro and husband Kenny, Nicole Stuart, Neil, Justin and Laura Jimison; one sibling; nine stepgrandchildren; 12 great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

DECATUR -- Mabel Louise Woods, 81, formerly of St. Louis, Mo., died 7:45 p.m. Wednesday (March 12, 2003) in Fair Havens Christian Home.
Private services will be held with Dean Cripe from the Mount Zion Christian Church officiating. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mount Zion, is in charge of arrangements.
Louise was born Nov. 23, 1921, in St. Louis, the daughter of Virgil R. and Mabel C. Huff Woods. She was a 42-year employee of the Wabash Railroad Co. and Norfolk & Western Railway Co.
Surviving are her brother V. Maurice Woods and wife Betty of Decatur; nephews, Rodney Woods and wife Peggy of Decatur; Steve Woods Sr. and wife Jane of Mount Zion; great-nephew Steven Woods Jr. of Mount Zion; great-niece Julie Cox and husband Dan of Decatur; great-great-nephew and great-great-niece Cylis Cox and Alexis Cox of Decatur. She had many friends in St. Louis.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Coffman
CERRO GORDO -- Shiela D. Coffman, 91, a longtime teacher and member of Cerro Gordo's library board, died March 6, 2003, in Lincoln Manor Nursing Home in Decatur.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Cerro Gordo. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorials: Hope Welty Public Library of Cerro Gordo.
Ms. Coffman was born March 23, 1911, in Moweaqua, where she lived until her family moved to Cerro Gordo in 1916. She attended Cerro Gordo schools and graduated from Cerro Gordo High School in 1929.
Ms. Coffman was involved in many activities as a high school student, including the female lead in the musical comedy "Pickles" during her senior year. She also served as editor of the school newspaper. After briefly attending Millikin University to study business, Ms. Coffman received a two-year teaching certificate from Illinois State Normal University and taught two years of kindergarten at Cerro Gordo Elementary School. She later earned her bachelor of education degree from ISU. She also attended the University of Colorado at Boulder for several summers, earning education credits beyond her baccalaureate degree. Ms. Coffman was an elementary school teacher at Wheaton and Peoria before returning to Cerro Gordo in 1955, where she taught sixth and fourth grades until her retirement in 1972. Her teaching career spanned 39 years and included more than 1,000 elementary students.
Ms. Coffman was active as a board member of the Hope Welty Public Library District of Cerro Gordo for 34 years. She was a frequent member of library board committees, including the design and building team for the Hope Welty Public Library in Cerro Gordo. She also served several years as Rolling Prairie Library System representative for the Hope Welty Library Board. Ms. Coffman also was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Piatt County Retired Teachers Association and Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church, where she was a member for more than 70 years.
Surviving are her nephew, Robert A. North of Minneapolis, Minn., and his wife Carol Gray; aunt, Opal Tate of Decatur; cousins, Lee H. Coffman of Moweaqua and his wife Joann; Lillian Halicki of Decatur; Jesse Ann Anderson of Aurora, Neb.; Stanley Jo Tomlinson of Champaign; Richard Tomlinson of Mattoon; Suzanne Montgomery of Decatur; Vance Tate of Callao, Mo.; Barbara Alexander of Bakersfield, Calif.; special friend and caretaker, Rosalee Duckworth of Cerro Gordo.
She was preceded in death by her father, Van A. Coffman; mother, Bessie Tate Coffman; and sister, Emily Ann North.
