Helen E. Vlahn of Batavia
Services for Helen E. Vlahn, 94, of The Holmstad in Batavia, formerly of Elmwood Park, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Yurs-Peterson Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. The Rev. Philip D. Lund will officiate.
Born Oct. 27, 1904, in Geneva, to John and Lena Carlson, she passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at Michealsen Health Care Center in Batavia. Private entombment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove.
Mrs. Vlahn was raised in the Elmwood Park area and worked for many years at Marshall Field's in Chicago, prior to joining her husband's insurance agency, where she worked as an office manager.
She was one ofthe original residents of The Holmstad Retirement Community in Batavia. She was Lutheran by faith and enjoyed floral gardening and travels to Sweden and Greece. She will be dearly missed by her beloved family and friends.
She is survived by her cousins, Amy Johnson of Batavia, Ellen Alvine of Elgin, Hattie Schmitz of Batavia and Donald (Louise) Anderson of Batavia; a special niece, who was like a daughter, Sofia (Frank) Pappas of Arlington Heights; and by many extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Vlahn.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Contributionsin her memory may be made to a charity of donor's choice.

Hilda A. C. Ziekert of Arlington Heights
Funeral services for Hilda A. C. Ziekert (nee Hoppenrath), 94, formerly of Keeneyville, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Roselle. She will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Born Feb. 20, 1904, in Chicago, she died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Arlington Heights. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Elgin.
Mrs. Ziekert had been employed by Milwaukee Railroad. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and served as the secretary of the Altar Guild for many years.
She was the wife of the late Adolph; mother of Wilfred (Dorothy), Leonore B. (Edward) Weidner, Nancy J. (Keith) Follmann, Beverly A. (the late James) Slawin and the late Kenneth (Carol); sister of Theodore Hoppenrath; grandmother of 13; and great-grandmother of 18.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today, at the Lutheran Home, 800 W. Oakton Ave., Arlington Heights.

Mitchell Thomas Bartoli of Roselle
Funeral services for Mitchell Thomas Bartoli, 15 months old, will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Road (three blocks south of Biesterfield Road), Elk Grove Village.
Mitchell died suddenly at his home on Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999.
He is survived by his parents, Donna L. (nee Sherk) and David R. Bartoli, former residents of Elk Grove Village and his brother, Jacob R. Bartoli; grandparents, Marion Sherk-Jacobson, A. Kearney and Elaine Bartoli of Prairie View; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of services Tuesday, at the funeral chapel.
Please omit flowers; memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Harris Bank, 500 E. Devon, Elk Grove Village.

Mildred `Mickie' Beckway formerly of Park Ridge
Funeral services for Mildred `Mickie' Beckway (nee Davidek), 79, most recently of Elgin, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at M. J. Suerth Funeral Home, 6754 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago.
Born Dec. 9, 1919, in Chicago, she died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at her home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
A housewife, she was the beloved wife of Trevor A. Beckway Sr.; loving mother of Patricia (Gilbert) Pilarski of Elgin and Trevor A. (Marian) Beckway Jr. of Schaumburg; proud grandmother of Barbara, Matthew, Suzan, Mark, Marsha, Michele and Trevor A. III; great-grandmother of Brandon, Kristine, Ashley and John; and fond sister of Edward Davidek and Robert Case.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

William P. Birk of Des Plaines
Services for William P. Birk, 87, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines.
Born Sept. 1, 1911, in Miami County, Ind., he died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Holy Family Medical Center, Des Plaines. Interment will be private.
Mr. Birk had been a resident ofDes Plaines for 48 years. Prior to retirement, he was a postal worker for the United States Postal Service. Among his special interests, he was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lois Birk (nee Ward); daughter, Marcheta C. (Dane) Decorah; and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of services at 7p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Alberta C. Brennan of Grayslake for 54 years
Mass of Christian Burial for Alberta C. Brennan, 82, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Round Lake.
Born Jan. 19, 1916, in Chicago, she died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at her home. Interment will follow the Mass in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
Mrs. Brennan had been a member of St. Gilbert's Choir in Grayslake, a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in RoundLake and a volunteer for Right to Life.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; eight children, Barbara (Larry) Gall of Sycamore, Mary (Jack) Rybski of Chicago, Nancy (Steven) Horton of Bensenville, Edward (Gillian) Brennan of Wisconsin Dells, Alberta (Daniel) Petrosko of Lindenhurst, Patricia (Daniel) Hogan of Tucson, Ariz., William (Ann) Brennan of Lansing, Mich., and Catherine (David) Roose of Sioux Falls, S. D.; brother, Kurt (Anna) Adams and sisters, Martha (Ferdinand) Strack and Erma Wasmuth, all of Germany; and 15 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, at Kristan Funeral Home, P. C., 219 W. Maple Ave. (Route 176), Mundelein.
In lieu of flowers, Masses would be appreciated.

Charles A. Fonte of Glendale Heights
Funeral services for Charles A. Fonte, 54, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Cypress Funeral Home, 1698 Bloomingdale Road, Glendale Heights, with closing prayers followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Church, 1555 Glen Ellyn Road, Glendale Heights.
Mr. Fonte passed away at his home Friday, Jan. 15, 1999. Entombment will be in Christ the King Garden Mausoleum, Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Mr. Fonte was the deputy mayor and a village trustee for Glendale Heights. He was also an operating engineer for a construction firm, and a 37-year member of Local #150 Operating Engineers.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon (nee Marino); children, Charles J. (Wendy) Fonte and Samantha Fonte; brothers, James and Robert; and sister, Darlene (Charles) Millard.

Mary Lou Gernhardt of Libertyville
Prayers for Mary Lou Gernhardt, 65, formerly a 10-year resident ofLos Altos, Calif., will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave., Libertyville, and continue to St. Joseph Church for a funeral Mass at 10 a.m.
Born March 22, 1933, in Chicago, she passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at ManorCare Health Services in Libertyville. Interment will follow the Mass in Lakeside Cemetery, Libertyville.
Mrs. Gernhardt was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Libertyville and a former piano teacher and girl scout leader.
An accountant, she had been employed by several firms in the Libertyville area, and had been chosen as the first Secretary of the Year by the LMV Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving are her children, Frederick (Betty) Gernhardt of Auburn, Calif., Gail (Kevin) Kick of Libertyville, Gary (Sharon) Gernhardt of Orlando, Fla., Paul (Helen) Gernhardt of Ashburn, Va., and Kevin (Amy) Gernhardt of Wildwood, Ill.; grandchildren, Rick, Travis, Jennifer, Audra, Brian, Kiersten, Maxwell and Mitchell; and her dear friend, Dorothy Confer of Arlington Heights.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Maria Malloy, and her husband, Frederick Gernhardt.
Friends of the family may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Maude Ann Giernoth of Grayslake
Mass of the Resurrection for Maude Ann Giernoth (nee Obitts), 54, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Gilberts Catholic Church, Grayslake.
The Rev. Robert Beaven will officiate.
Born Aug. 16, 1944, in Chicago, she passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at her home, after a lingering illness. Interment will follow the Mass in Avon Centre Cemetery, Grayslake.
Maude was a graduate of Illinois Masonic Hospital School of Nursing. She had most recently been practicing as a rehabilitation nurse at Libertyville Manor. She was a member of St. Gilbert Catholic Church, Grayslake.
She leaves her husband, Andrew, whom she wed on Nov. 13, 1976; son, Lee Giernoth; mother, Roberta; sisters, Peggy (Ron) McQuarters of Bolingbrook and Kay (John) Gribble of Melrose Park; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends of the family may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. today, at Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Ltd., 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake.

Virginia T. Holloman (nee Jurewicz), 78, of Lombard, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999.

Sophie Howard of Elgin
Services for Sophie Howard (nee Shimkus), will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, and continue with a 10 a.m. chapel service, at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St. (3/4 mile west of Bloomingdale/Roselle Rd.), Roselle.
Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
She was the beloved wife of the late James; devoted mother of Ronald (Nancy), James, and Barbara (Joseph) Russell; dear sister of Helen Gracious; fond grandmother of David, Richard and Dana Howard, Robert (Diane) and Paul Russell; and great-grandmother of one.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral chapel.

Anthony Hrustek
Funeral Mass for Anthony Hrustek, 69, of Chicago, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 801 Oak St., North Aurora.
Born Dec. 30, 1929, in Chicago, he died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at his home.
Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, Ill.
Survivors include his sister, Helen (Norman) Zeitz; four brothers, Leo (Rose), Joseph, Sylvester and Adolph (Joyce); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Josephine Hrustek; a brother, Stanley; and a sister, Stella Rudny.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at Yurs Peterson Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia.
