Goldie Aper of Lincoln dies at 100
LINCOLN -- Goldie H. Aper, 100, of Lincoln, formerly of Emden, died 8:37 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003).
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Emden. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln, and one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery. Memorials: St. Peter's Lutheran Church or Christian Nursing Home.
Mrs. Aper was born Dec. 14, 1902, in Ostfreesland, Germany, the daughter of Eise and Anna Terviel Eeten. She married Emil Kutz. He preceded her in death July 1928. She married John E. Aper on Dec. 5, 1933, in Emden. He preceded her in death in February 1967.
Surviving are her sons, Harold Kutz of Elkhart; John Aper of Lincoln; daughters, Anna Clara Westen of Emden; Johanna Butler of Decatur; Goldie Burlingame of Ipava; Eileen Hubard of Lincoln; Mary Lou Wibben of Hartsburg; brother, Harry Eeten of Emden; sisters, Annetta Schleder of Delavan; Mabel Hoffman of Phoenix, Ariz.; Elsie Mammen of Emden; Agnes Livengood of Delavan; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, one son, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, four brothers and two sisters.

CHARLESTON -- Iona Beulah Hunter, 81, of Charleston passed away Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County.
Services celebrating her life will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Adams Funeral Chapel, Charleston, with Pastor Bob Younts officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. Memorials: American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
Iona was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Staunton, the daughter of Ignatius and Elizabeth Brackman Berkel Lagant. She retired from Brown Shoe Co. in Charleston after 28 years of service. She enjoyed cooking for her family, watching TV, playing cards, crossword books, birds, and was especially fond of Snow, her miniature American Eskimo dog. She married Hubert Hunter on Jan. 12, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo. He passed away June 21, 1991.
Surviving are her sons, Gary H. Hunter and wife Wanda of Kansas; Keith L. Hunter and wife Linda Sue, Lyle K. Hunter and wife Sue and Duane A. Hunter and fiancee Donna Melton, all of Charleston; daughters, Dianna R. Miller and husband Mike of Paris; Nita Southworth Stiff and husband Gary of Charleston; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Netah Battaglia of Toledo, Ohio; son-in-law, Ralph D. Craig of Charleston.
She was preceded in death her parents, husband; daughter, Linda J. Craig; and two grandsons.
She will be remembered for her loving spirit and devotion to her family.

TAYLORVILLE -- Melvin R. Norris, 72, of Taylorville died 2:36 a.m. Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) in Alton Memorial Hospital, Alton.

Mr. Norris was born June 13, 1930, in Taylorville, the son of Gus and Vallie Robertson Norris. He was a retired operating engineer, a member of the Eagles Club and a Navy veteran.
Surviving are his children, Melinda D. Kraut of Woodriver; Melvin Norris Jr. and wife Renee of Apopka, Fla.; stepson, Dennis Brown, Florida; stepdaughter, Cheri Brown, Florida; sisters, Michelle Pesek of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Loretta Buckles and husband Richard of Owaneco; grandchildren, Samantha Norris, Edward Kraut, Candace Norris and Jessica Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Norris; and brother, Gale Norris.

Mr. Zimmerman was born March 30, 1923, in Dewitt. He was a former employee of Borg-Warner Corp. for 15 years and a retired real estate salesman. He was a World War II and the
Korean War veteran. He was a deacon at Wesley Chapel Church in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., for 20 years and was manager of Agate Beach RV Park in Port Orford.
