DECATUR -- Frank Patrick Miles, 81, of Danville, formerly of Decatur, died 5:15 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 8, 2003) in Department of Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, Danville.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Danville VA Catholic Chapel, where Frank attended, with the Rev. John Schultz officiating. Visitation will be two hours before services. Burial will be in the Danville National Cemetery
with military rites by the VFW. Pape Funeral Home and Gardens, Danville, is in charge of local arrangements.
Frank was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., to John and Anna Miles. They moved to Decatur, and he attended Roosevelt Junior High and Decatur High School, where he played football. In 1942, he joined the
Army Air Corps, 95th Bomb Group, B-17 tail gunner. He was stationed in Horham, England. He flew 29 missions over occupied Europe and received a Purple Heart, distinguished flying cross and an air medal with three oak leaf clusters. After moving to Danville in 1967, he worked for Hysters until retirement in 1984. He enjoyed all sports, especially football and was an avid Cubs fan. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and most of all he enjoyed being with his family and friends. He married Helen Virginia Hull on May 17, 1947, in Decatur.
Surviving are his wife; son, Frank Miles Jr.; brothers, Ray of Detroit; Carl of Decatur; sister, Dorothy Williams of Ohio; special chosen grandson, Matthew, whom he loved dearly; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Fred Michael (1944-1994); three brothers and four sisters.

DECATUR -- Hazel Marie West, 91, of Decatur died 8:28 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 9, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mount Zion. The family requests casual attire be worn to the graveside services and visitation. Memorials: American Cancer Society.
Hazel was born March 17, 1911, in Macon County, Tenn., the daughter of Joe and Susan Russell Harlin. She was a member of Sunny Side Church of Christ. She married Murlin Douglas West in 1927. He preceded her in death in 1977.
Surviving are her daughters, Gladys Burger of Mount Zion; Evelyn Norman and husband Eugene of Decatur; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, eight brothers and three sisters.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kurt Heimbrecht, the nurses and staff on the sixth floor of St. Mary's Hospital and the nurses and staff at Heritage Manor for all their loving care.

DECATUR -- Verle Christian Oyer, 82, of Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, formerly of Gibson City, died 3:08 a.m. Monday (Feb. 10, 2003) in Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community.
Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in East Bend Mennonite Church, Fisher, with the Revs. Steve Estes and Michael Dean officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, and one hour before services in the church. Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday in East Bend Memorial Gardens, Fisher. Memorials: Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Illinois Mennonite Historical and Genealogical Society or East Bend Mennonite Church.
Mr. Oyer was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Foosland, the son of Samuel and Elmira Naffziger Oyer. He attended Prairie Cottage and Caledonia grade schools in Bellflower Township, Foosland High School and graduated from Bellflower Township High School in 1938. He was a dairy and grain farmer near Foosland before moving to rural Gibson City in 1977, where he continued farming until his retirement. He moved with his wife to Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community in September 2000.
He was a lifetime member of East Bend Mennonite Church, where he served in many ways, including co-historian with his wife. He was a charter and lifetime member of the Illinois Mennonite Historical and Genealogical Society. He enjoyed reading, researching and writing about history and genealogy. He was deeply loved by his family. He married Margaret Vera Birkey on Aug. 29, 1945.
Surviving are his wife; sons, Verle Curtis Oyer of Bloomington; Vance Gordon Oyer of Champaign; daughter, Vera Christine Oyer of Decatur; brother, Vilas Oyer of Gibson City; sister, Leta Eichelberger of Littleton, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

DEWITT -- Wilbur Reynolds, 90, of Dewitt died 12:55 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 9, 2003) in Dr. John Warner Hospital, Clinton.

Mr. Reynolds was born Jan. 29, 1913, in Wapella, the son of William and Elizabeth Whittaker Reynolds. He was a farmer and worked at Revere Copper & Brass for 10 years until closing. He was a Flying Farmer, owning his own plane. He raised champion shorthorn cattle. He sold founding bull to King Ranch of Texas. He started the crossbreed of Bhrama and Miling shorthorns, called Santa Grantotis. He had many trophies and banners that he had won at fairs all over the country with his cattle. He always knew their history and bloodlines by memory. He was avid hunter and had many champion field dogs. He loved fishing. He married Edna M. Bell on Nov. 27, 1936, in Decatur.
Surviving are his wife; son, Larry W. (Linda) Reynolds of Clinton; grandsons, Rick Reynolds and Jeffrey (Stephanie) Barger; great-granddaughters, Marisa, Laura, Katie, Carrie and Breanna; great-grandson, Brazton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters and grandson, Larry W. Reynolds.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Mrs. Moran was born July 30, 1929, in Allenville, the daughter of Jessie James and Eva E. Clayton Abbott. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Sullivan. She married Alva K. Moran on Sept. 13, 1948. He preceded her in death Feb. 9, 1998.
