DECATUR -- Albert Abbott, 75, of Decatur died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) in Decatur.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Westminster Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorials: Kemmerer Village or donor's choice.
Mr. Abbott was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Decatur, the son of Ira R. Abbott and Ruth Stone. Mr. Abbott attended the University of Illinois, was an
Army veteran and graduated from Millikin University. He spent his career in commercial construction in Decatur and Central Illinois, working with the firms of Fischer Stone, DeWitt Amdahl and Associates and ended his working career as chief building inspector for the city of Decatur, retiring in 1991. He married Mary Jane Dwyer on Aug. 11, 1951.
Surviving are his wife of Decatur; brother, Ira R. Abbott Jr. of LaPorte, Ind.; sister, Rosemond Clements of Rice Lake, Wis.; sons, Albert E. Abbott Jr. of Akron, Ohio; John C. Abbott of Reno, Nev.; daughter, Jane A. Prust of Hilton Head, S.C.; nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Miriam, and brother, Robert.

Grant
DECATUR -- Lester J. Grant, 96, of Decatur died 3:50 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 9, 2003) in Manor Care.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Macon County Area Vocational Educational Scholarship Fund.
Mr. Grant was born Dec. 31, 1906, in Bunker Hill, the son of James T. and Rose Maimie Grant. He was superintendent of Decatur Public Schools from 1950-1967. During his 17 years, the school district expanded to include four high schools. He also oversaw the construction of 17 new schools and 17 additions. He married Lorraine Zweck on May 21, 1932. She preceded him in death Dec. 8, 2002.
Surviving are his daughters, the Rev. Dr. Deborah Rose of Spokane, Wash.; Diane Patterson of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Heather Patterson of Houston; Shawn Wilkin and wife Sheila of Houston; sisters, Mrs. Renolla Coe of Bloomington; Mrs. Truman Vroman of Wood River.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Julius
BLUE MOUND -- Virgil O. Julius, 69, of Blue Mound passed away 1:30 a.m. Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) in St. John's Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Ater-Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound, with the Rev. George I. Heineman Sr. officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery. Memorials: Mount Auburn United Methodist Church or Blue Mound Rescue Squad.
Mr. Julius was born March 13, 1933, in St. Elmo, the son of Jesse L. and Ollie Ann Logue Julius. He retired in 1994 from A. E. Staley Mfg. Co. after 30 years of service. He was an avid hunter, bow hunter and he loved fishing. He was an
Army veteran during the
Korean War, having served in Germany. He married Doris J. Newburn on Nov. 19, 1964, in Altamont.
Surviving are his wife of Blue Mound; children, Paul Finfrock and wife Brenda of Taylorville; Marcia Hedrick and husband Chester of Lenox, Mo.; Richard Julius of Marshall, Ark.; Robert Julius and wife Martha of Clarksville, Ark.; Rebecca Schlanser and husband Michael of Beecher City; David Julius and wife Cathy of Rolla, Mo.; brothers, Harry Julius and wife Geraldine of Tolono; Bob Julius and wife Jo Ann of St. Elmo; sisters, May Blankenship of Altamont; Mary Ann Hoffner of Hillsboro, Kan.; 26 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Lenover
DECATUR -- Hershel Lyle Lenover, 69, of Decatur died Wednesday (Jan. 8, 2003) in his home.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Graceland Cemetery, with Pastor Ron Howerton officiating. J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Hershel was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Decatur, the son of Paul Tillman and Lula Mae Butler Lenover. He had worked as a security guard. He attended church at Maranatha Assembly of God.
Surviving are his brothers, Richard L. Lenover of Decatur; Virgil P. Lenover of Riverside, Calif.; sisters, Wanda (Winfield) Campbell and Elsie M. (Robert) Brown, all of Mira Loma, Calif.; Ruth Pyles of Decatur; several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Melvin Lenover and sister, Ruby Crisp.

MOUNT AUBURN -- Clifford Armstrong Davidson, 93, of Godfrey, formerly of Mount Auburn, died 5:55 p.m. Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) in Eunice C. Smith Nursing Home, Alton.
Services will be 7 p.m. Monday, Gent Funeral Home, 2409 State St., Alton, with the Rev. Julie Azbell officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park, alongside his wife Jeanne. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Nature Institute of Godfrey.
Mr. Davidson was born Nov. 21, 1909, in Mount Auburn, the son of the late Virgil and Ruby Auger Davidson. He was a 1931 graduate of the University of Illinois. He retired in December 1974 from Personnel & Training at Shell Oil Co. in Wood River. He worked for 42 years at Shell, including four years as a research chemist for Shell in Borneo. Mr. Davidson was a member of First United Methodist Church in Alton, Godfrey Lions Club, The Nature Institute in Godfrey, Shell Retiree Organization and a lifelong member of the Kedron Masonic Lodge in Mount Auburn. He was also a contributor and volunteer at the Wood River Refining History Museum. He married Jeanne Schneider on July 14, 1951, in Alton. She preceded him in death Oct. 21, 2002.
Surviving are a son, Steven Davidson and wife Debra of Cambridge, Wis.; grandchildren, Gregory, Mark and Brent Davidson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
