CISCO -- William G. Vannote, 75, of Bay St. Louis, Miss., formerly of Cisco and Decatur, died Saturday (Oct. 12, 2002).
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the American Legion Hall in Cisco. Graveside services will be at a later date in Biloxi, Miss. Riemann Funeral Home, Bay St. Louis, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Vannote was born June 25, 1927, the son of Calvin "Bill" and Leora Vannote and raised in Piatt County. He married Charmin Hendrickson on Feb. 17, 1983, in Chicago.
Surviving are his sister, Alice Floyd of Farmer City; daughter, Judy Peddycoart and husband Richard of Monticello; son, James "Jim" Vannote of Danville; grandchildren, Anthony "Tony" Vannote of Monticello; Connie Sommers of Canton, Mo.; Aaron, Jaime, and Brent Peddycoart, all of Monticello; great-granddaughters Emily and Rachael Sommers of Canton; four great-grandsons; four stepchildren; 18 stepgrandchildren of Mississippi and Chicago; two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sons, Jack and Jeff Vannote; and brothers, Mike and Donald Vannote.

McVaigh
DECATUR -- Robert N. McVaigh, 71, of Decatur passed away 6:56 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) in his home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, with Pastor Dan Spruell officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Entombment will be in Pieta Mausoleum, Graceland Cemetery. Memorials: VNA Home Health Care.
Mr. McVaigh was born June 7, 1931, in Parkersburg, the son of Roy Vernon and Grace Elizabeth Newberry McVaigh. He served his country in the Air Force. He retired from Caterpillar Inc. after 34 years of service as a finish line inspector. He was an avid bowler, from which he had many trophies. He also enjoyed playing pool and golf. He married Verna M. Willett on Aug. 29, 1997, in Florida.
Surviving are his wife; children, Rocky McVaigh of Convoy, Ohio; Lonnie R. McVaigh of San Berndino, Calif.; Renee McVaigh of Decatur; Charles M. Willett of Plymouth, Mich.; John C. Willett of Allen Park, Mich.; Mary Ann Willet of Brighton, Mich.; Evaline L. Carr of Allen Park; brothers and sisters, Roy Vernon McVaigh, Eugene Edward McVaigh, Rose Mary Ellen McVaigh, Betty Lee McVaigh, Donald Lee McVaigh, Leona Mae McVaigh and Larry Dean McVaigh, all of Parkersburg; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bernice Marie McVaigh one son, Thomas M. Willett.
Metzger
DECATUR -- Robert Mathias Metzger, 76, of Decatur died 11:12 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) in St. Mary's Hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. James Catholic Church. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes with 8 p.m. prayer service. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery. Memorials: Macon County Special Olympics.
Mr. Metzger was born March 5, 1926, in Decatur, the son of Henry E. and Florence Like Metzger. He served in the Air Force during World War II and the
Korean War. He was an avid gardener and card player. He played football for Decatur High School and Eastern Illinois University and was a member of the Corn Bowl Team at EIU in 1948. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, past treasurer of Sons and Daughters of Ireland and past president of Staley Retirees Club. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he ran the 200 Club for 27 years. He was employed with A.E. Staley Mfg. Co. for 39 years. He married Patricia Jean See on May 13, 1950, in Decatur.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years; children, Nettie Closs and husband John of Harristown; Mark Metzger and wife Sherry of San Antonio, Texas; Dian McAdamis and husband Mike of Decatur; Donna Hahn and husband Steve of Decatur; Denise Burdick and husband Jeff of Oakley; Debbie Vackicev and husband Alexi of Lombard; brothers, Arnold Metzger and wife Eula Mae of Oreana; Donald Metzger of Decatur; Tom Metzger and wife Diane of Sun City, Ariz.; Jerry Metzger of Decatur; sister, Charlene Musser of Decatur; 14 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a gentle, caring man and a source of great strength and faith for all who knew him. He was a greatly loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family will continue to celebrate his life.
