Eddy
DECATUR -- David Lawrence "Batman" Eddy, 66, of Decatur died Sunday (May 13, 2001) in his home.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, with Pastor Richard Scott officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family or David Eddy Memorial Fund.
David was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Bloomington, the son of Thomas L. and Luella A. Eddy. He retired from Spring Creek Towers and IBEW local 51 and was affiliated with Christ United Methodist Church. David was a saxophone player in Central Illinois for many years. His music and humor brought joy to many people. He married Marcie Aderman June 28, 1980, in Clinton.
Surviving are his wife; sons, Michael Henry Dieterich of Gridley; James David Dieterich; David Eddy and Timothy Lawrence Owen Eddy, both at home; twin brother, Daniel (Pat) Eddy of Florissant, Mo.; sister, Mildred (Albert) Arendt of Bloomington; grandson, Travis; extended family, Earl and Fern Aderman; Lanny (Renee) Aderman; Keith Aderman; June (Eric) Schmidt; Shelly (Bob) Pollock; Dwight (Shelley) Aderman; Laurie (David) Montgomery; Joyce (Larry) Webb; many nieces and nephews who he dearly loved and many friends.
He was preceded by his parents; two brothers, Thomas and Donald; and sister, Dorothy Lake.
He was a great husband, father, brother, friend and musician. We will miss him very much.

DECATUR -- Nellie Mae Jones, 82, of Decatur died 11:21 a.m. Monday (May 14, 2001) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Graceland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Jones was born June 2, 1918, in Fayetteville, Ark., the daughter of Fountain and Gertrude Jones Huffman. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of Lady Elks and former president of Roach School PTA. Nellie married Ted V. Jones Sr. May 2, 1937, in Decatur. He preceded her in death Oct. 12, 1989.
Surviving are her sons, Ted V. Jones Jr. and wife Sharon of Decatur; Samuel F. Jones of San Diego, Calif.; Phillip L. Jones and Steven L. Jones, both of Decatur; daughter, Sheila Hawkins and husband Jerry of Decatur; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Earl Huffman, Joe Huffman and Harold Huffman; sister, Virginia Rainey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Loveless
DECATUR -- Leo B. Loveless, 98, of Decatur died 12:28 a.m. Monday (May 14, 2001) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with 8 p.m. Masonic rites. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Memorials: Sharon United Methodist Church.
Leo was born Aug. 25, 1902, in Sullivan, the son of Willis J. and Ida A. Hipsher Loveless. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church. Mr. Loveless farmed in Macon County all his life and was a 76-year member of Summit Lodge 431, Warrensburg. He was a charter member of Niantic Civic Club, a member of Macon County Farm Bureau and a former member of ATA. He was an avid woodworker and made 27 walnut droptop desks in his lifetime. He married Helen G. Marsh Sept. 14, 1925. She preceded him in death November 1967. He later married Madeline Doughty in February 1972. She preceded him in death July 1984.
Surviving are his children, William W. Loveless and wife Rose of Decatur; Nancy A. Gray and husband the Rev. John L. of Lake Villa; Robert E. Loveless and wife Linda of Niantic; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Thelma; and one grandchild.
Miller
DECATUR -- Ruth Cowgill Nichols Miller, 97, of Decatur died 6:05 p.m. Friday (May 11, 2001) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with Ruth's grandson-in-law, the Rev. David Byers-Dent, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials: St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Decatur.
Mrs. Miller was born April 30, 1904, in Decatur, the daughter of Clarence and Bertha Ritchie Cowgill. She worked for the
Army Ammunition Plant during World War II while her husband, Reed Nichols, and son, Clarence Nichols, fought with the military in the Pacific. Ruth later worked for Revere Ware in Clinton and Kirby Hospital in Monticello. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Decatur, where she was active in the choir. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star in Bement. She married Reed Nichols. He preceded her in death. She married Earl Miller. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughter, Florence Nichols Byers of Decatur; son, Robert Nichols of Decatur; stepson, Bill Miller and stepdaughter, Vera Witwer and husband Harley, all of Florida; grandchildren, Sandra Byers Sorensen and husband Ron Frank Byers II; Janet Byers-Dent and husband David; Stephen Byers and wife Ginger; Susan Nichols Durbin and husband Jerry; Jeannie Nichols Mosbach and husband Alan; John Nichols and wife Lora; Barbara Nichols; stepgranddaughter, Wendy Witwer; 12 great-grandsons; eight great-granddaughters; four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first and second husbands; sons, Clarence Nichols and Thomas Nichols; brother, Ralph Cowgill, Harold Cowgill, Lewis Cowgill and Orville Cowgill.

Morthland
DECATUR -- Richard F. Morthland, 78, of Decatur died 8:25 a.m. Sunday (May 13, 2001) in his home.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. James Catholic Church. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. J.J. Moran & Sons is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: DMH Home Health & Hospice Services or St. James Restoration Fund.
Richard was born May 26, 1922, in Decatur, the son of Martin E. and Luella Fletcher Morthland. He was a 1943 graduate of Millikin University and a 1948 graduate of University of Illinois School of Law. He was partner for many years in the law firm of Morthland and Morthland. He practiced law in Decatur for 50 years. He was the president of Decatur Bar Association 1984-85, a member of American Legion Castle Williams Post 105 and an
Army veteran, serving in the European Theatre. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He married Ruth Brinkoetter June 24, 1943, in Fort Sill, Okla.
Surviving are his wife; daughter, Suzanne B. Boehm and husband Edward of Decatur; brother, Donald W. Morthland of Decatur; sister, Marilyn Shroyer and husband Donald of Decatur; grandchildren, Nick Boehm of Springfield; Lindsey Boehm of Decatur; faithful secretary of many years, Margel Amenda.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Richard F. Morthland Jr.

EDINBURG -- Joseph Max "Zeke" Edwards, 79, of Edinburg, died Tuesday (May 8, 2001) in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

He was born Jan. 17, 1922, in Vandalia.
He leaves his wife, one daughter, several sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

TOWER HILL -- Ralph C. Hardy, 87, of Tower Hill passed away 10:40 a.m. Sunday (May 13, 2001) in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lockart and Sons Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Derrick Ritchie officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery. Memorials: donor's choice.
Mr. Hardy was born June 3, 1913, in Shelby County, the son of Abraham Lincoln and Ida Estella Lockart Hardy. He was a member of Tower Hill Christian Church and Shelby County Historical Society. He farmed until he was 87 years old. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He married Wanda Pauline Wilcoxon Dec. 22, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo.
Surviving are his wife; son, Charles Hardy and wife Carlene of Tower Hill; daughters, Linda Pritts and husband Bill of Dalton City; Barbara Hub ner and husband Harold of Assumption; grandchildren, Clay Hardy and wife Kim; Luke Hardy and wife Penny; Chad Hardy and wife Carrie; Matt Hardy and wife Dena; Mark Pritts and wife Jennifer; Gina Pritts and Trudy Filchak; Deborah Davis and husband Doug; great-grandchildren, Josh Hardy, Seth Hardy, Niki Hardy, Coulter Hardy, McQuade Hardy, Mackenzie Hardy, Brittany Pritts, John Filchak, Samantha Filchak, Matthew Davis and Tiffany Davis; great-stepgrandchildren, Nathan, Kristen and Nick.
