TUSCOLA -- Genevieve Elizabeth Holmes, 82, of Tuscola died 8:44 a.m. Tuesday (April 17, 2001) in her home.
Mass of the Resurrection will be 9 a.m. Saturday in Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, Tuscola, celebrated by Father Allen Kemme. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola, with 5:30 p.m. vigil services in

Mrs. Holmes was born April 10, 1919, in Nokomis, the daughter of Victor and Elizabeth Hartlieb Singler. Mrs. Holmes worked at Ferguson's Motor Sales in Tuscola for 29 years as the office manager. After retirement, she worked for Century Motors and
Tuscola Amoco as a bookkeeper. She was a former city clerk for the city of Nokomis. She was a member of Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, Tuscola, and St. Louis Catholic Church of Nokomis. She married William Albert Holmes Dec. 29, 1940, in
Jasper, Ind. He died on Aug. 22, 1996.
Her hobbies included traveling, bingo and visiting friends. She was a member of Tuscola Moose Lodge, Tuscola Senior Citizens and an active member of the low vision group. She was recently featured in an eight-minute PBS-TV special narrated by Morley
Saffer on the new technology for adults with low vision.
Surviving are her sons, Gary W. Holmes of San Clemente, Calif.; Harry Jay Holmes of Pampa, Texas; Chuck Holmes of Tuscola; eight grandchildren, Heather Cairns of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Alexis Holmes of Switzerland; Bonnie and Katie Holmes of Pampa, Texas; Summer Phillips of Tuscola; Erica Kremitzki of Tuscola; Chuck Holmes Jr. of Champaign; Derek Holmes of Tuscola; three great-grandchildren, Eric Phillips and Miah Phillips both of Tuscola; Josh Cairns of Scottsdale, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald Singler of Shelbyville and Irvin Singler of Nokomis.

DECATUR -- Robert J. Boland, 82, of Decatur died 8:30 a.m. Sunday (April 22, 2001) in his home.

Mr. Boland was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Decatur, the son of Michael and Marie Clements Boland. He was founder and president of Boland Electric from its inception in 1953 to 1986, becoming chairman of the board in 1986 until the sale of the business in 1997 to Springfield Electric. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus 577. He was a former member of the board of directors of the National Association of Electrical Distributors. He also served with the
Army during World War II. He married Carmela Piraino June 21, 1941, in Decatur. She preceded him in death Oct. 9, 1999.
Surviving are his son, Michael Boland of Decatur; daughters, Mrs. Robert (Ann) Wolford of Decatur; Mrs. Ron (Jenny) Brinkmeyer of Sikeston, Mo.; sisters, Ina Renner of Decatur; Mrs. David (Margaret) Thatcher of Decatur; grandchildren, Mrs. Paul (Amy) Chiligiris of Decatur; Tim Wolford of Decatur; Rachael and Molly Brinkmeyer of Sikeston; great-grandson, George Paul Chiligiris of Decatur; many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two sisters and two brothers.
