Emily Jane Baker, 51, Pearcy, Ark., formerly of Decatur, died Wednesday (March 28, 2001). Survivors: parents, Everett and Virginia Baker, Pearcy; brothers, Ron Baker, Oregon, Ill.; Marty Baker, Pearcy; sisters, Franciel Myers, Hot Springs, Ark.; Marklynne Morris, Waynesville, N.C.

Broderick

DECATUR -- Catherine Broderick, 90, Decatur, formerly of Chicago, retired from Edgewater Hospital, died Tuesday (March 27, 2001).

Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, St. James Catholic Church. Visitation: two hours before services. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Evanston. Arrangements by: J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials: St. Mary's Adult Day Care Center.

Clifford

DECATUR -- Maxine Lucille Clifford, 88, Decatur, died Tuesday (March 27, 2001).

Mass of the Resurrection and visitation was Thursday. Burial: 10 a.m. Friday, Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements by: J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials: St. Thomas Church.

DuPont

DECATUR -- Carl Eugene DuPont, 65, of Decatur died 4:40 a.m. Friday (March 23, 2001) in Manor Care Nursing Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery. Memorials: Wesley United Methodist Church.

Mr. Dupont was born Aug. 2, 1935, in Springfield, the son of Martin and Eva Black DuPont. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He formerly owned and operated DuPont's Lakeview Market and was retired from Mueller Co. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1953. He married Mildred Jacobs Aug. 5, 1956.

Surviving are his wife Millie; children, Terry DuPont, Cynthia DuPont and Bradley DuPont and wife Leah; grandchildren, Kari, Trevor, Ashley, Lindsay, Tyler, Dalton and Shelby; two great-grandchildren; stepfather, Paul Fink of Springfield; half brothers, Vincent Zapkus of Carlsbad, N.M.; Ivan Fink and Noel Fink, both of Springfield; half sister, Carolyn Harper of Springfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, mother-in-law and father-in-law.

Mr. DuPont's family wishes to thank the staff of Manor Care for all the wonderful care given to their loved one.

England

DECATUR -- Louise England, 83, of Mishawaka, Ind., died 11 p.m. March 21, 2001, in St. Joseph's Regional Hospital, Mishawaka.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Calvert and Ferry Funeral Homes, Girard, with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery. Memorials: Girard Methodist Church or American Cancer Society.

Mrs. England was born July 9, 1917, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Walter and Kate McLain. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She married Edward McGown in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1957. She married Herbert D. England Feb. 8, 1959. He preceded her in death Jan. 19, 2000.

Surviving are her daughters, Sherry Branham of Mishawaka; Becky Gauble of Decatur; grandchildren, Teresa Rector and Kevin Branham, both of Mishawaka; Shani Goss of Decatur; two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both husbands and brother, Charles McLain.

#Lawrence

DECATUR -- Carl E. "Gene" Lawrence, 74, of Decatur died 7:25 p.m. Tuesday (March 27, 2001) in his home.

Graveside services will be noon Saturday in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. A memorial concert to celebrate the life of Carl Lawrence will be presented at Grace United Methodist Church following the burial at 2:30 p.m. Abram Lawrence, grandson, and Peter and Mary Miller will perform with the Revs. Bill Pruitt and Annie Tremble presiding. Memorials: Millikin University Carl and Lois Scholarship Fund or Grace United Methodist Foundation.

Mr. Lawrence was born June 23, 1926, in Warrensburg, the son of John and Cora Lawrence. He attended Grace United Methodist Church. He was a veteran serving his country as a sergeant in World War II and 1st lieutenant in the Korean War. He was a graduate of Millikin University with a bachelor of science in engineering administration degree and was awarded the Millikin Alumni Merit and Loyalty awards. He also attended Harvard University and the Federal Executive Institute. He was a regional chief postal inspector of the central region, U.S. postal polygraph operator and assistant to the postmaster general. As assistant to the postmaster general, he was a postal adviser to Germany and Saudi Arabia. After retirement, he was employed by the Agency for International Development, U.S. State Department. He served as an advisor in the areas of budget and finance to the Minister of Public Works in Belize, Central America. He married Lois Lawrence Aug. 20, 1957.

Surviving are grandchildren, Abram Lawrence of Decatur; Adam Lawrence of Downers Grove; Una Mara Lawrence of Steger; brother, Clifford E. Lawrence and wife Erma Lorene of Decatur.

He was preceded in death by his son, Greg, Oct. 5, 2000, parents and one brother.

Carl extended his love and encouragement to his wife and many young people as they pursued careers in music, setting a good example for all he knew.

Cummins

DECATUR -- Mary E. Cummins, 85, Decatur, formerly of Beecher City, died Wednesday (March 28, 2001). Arrangements incomplete: Kull Funeral Home, St. Elmo.

Ray

DECATUR -- Bruce W. Ray, 89, Coloma, Mich., formerly of Decatur, died 8:50 a.m. Wednesday (March 28, 2001) in Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, Mich.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in United Methodist Church of Hartford with Pastor Ron Hansen officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorials: Sister Lakes Lions Club, 66991 95th Ave., Dowagiac, MI 49047.

Mr. Ray was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Decatur. He moved from Chicago to Sister Lakes in 1975 and then moved to Coloma in 1996. He retired as an assistant advertising manager of Pyle National in Chicago. He was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Dowagiac and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hartford. From 1985-1986, he was president of Sister Lakes Lions Club. He married Velma Wells April 6, 1933, in Taylorville. She preceded him in death June 20, 1980.

Surviving are his daughter, Carolyn Ann Prosek of Coloma; son, Ronald (Virginia) Ray of West Covina, Calif.; sister, Josephine Parker of Decatur; brother, Dale (Jesse) Ray of Decatur; many nieces and nephews; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded by his parents; brother, Earl Ray; and sister, Mildred McDaniel.

#Schniederjan

DECATUR -- David D. "Snatch" Schniederjan, 50, Macon, employee of Nabisco, died Tuesday (March 27, 2001).

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dawson & Wikoff Colonial Chapel North. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial: Mount Gilead Cemetery with military rites. Memorials: his daughter's scholarship fund in care of Peoples Bank of Macon.

Shoemaker

DECATUR -- John Wayne "Jack" Shoemaker, 79, of Decatur died 12:35 p.m. Tuesday (March 27, 2001) in St. Mary's Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick Catholic Church with visitation one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery. J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: St. Patrick Catholic Church Renovation Fund.

Jack was born June 11, 1921, in Decatur, the son of Francis Donald and Edith Anstett Shoemaker. He worked as a salesman for several years and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church as well as St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was also past president of Ambucs and member of the Elks. He married Mary Kathryn Grace Dec. 26, 1950.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Mark Shoemaker and wife Janet of Bloomington; Mike Shoemaker of Bloomington; daughters, Joanie Merrill and husband Keith of Decatur; Jill Shoemaker of Decatur; sister, Mary Hill and husband Edward of Benton; granddaughters, Meghan Shoemaker and Elizabeth Merrill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don; and sister, Martha O'Heren.

Woodrum

DECATUR -- Charles E. Woodrum, 89, Decatur, died Tuesday (March 27, 2001).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Visitation was Thursday. Burial: Harristown Cemetery. Memorials: Harristown Christian Church or Fair Havens Christian Home.

Allard

NOBLE -- Merle Allard, 87, Noble, died Wednesday (March 28, 2001).

TAYLORVILLE -- Hugh Barnes, 78, Springfield, formerly of Taylorville, retired owner of Taylorville Family Center, died Wednesday (March 28, 2001). World War II Army veteran. Member: United Methodist Church of Carbondale and AF & AM 122. Survivors: daughter, Patricia Kay Bedinger, Springfield; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents and wife, Mary Ellen.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville. Visitation: 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, with military rites.
