Jean `Skokie' Skokowski of Gurnee
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jean `Skokie' Skokowski (nee Cankar), 83, of Gurnee and formerly of Waukegan, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee.
Born June 18, 1916, in Waukegan, she died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Provena St. Therese Medical Center. Burial will be in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
A lifelong resident of the area, Mrs. Skokowski had assisted her husband, Al, in managing Skokie's Lounge in North Chicago. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee and was a former member of Mother of God Church.
She was also a past president of the North Chicago VFW Women's Auxiliary and a member of St. Mary's Lodge K. S. K. J.
Surviving are her loving daughters, Jean Slovnik of Gurnee andPatricia Skokie of Gurnee; grandchildren, Kristan (Kevin) Tuohy, and Frank, Joel and Amy Slovnik; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Stanley (Flo) Cankar of Waukegan and Joseph Cankar of Gurnee; sisters, Fritzi (Tom) Lisk of Antioch, Mimi (Bill) Witek of Gurnee and Millie (Jerry) Tait of Gurnee; and many niecesand nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander `Skokie' Skokowski, in 1984, and her brother, John.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Salata Gurnee Funeral Home, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee.
Angela M. Smith of Bartlett
A memorial visitation for Angela M. Smith (nee Spehar), 78, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Road (at Stearns Road), Bartlett.
Born Aug. 20, 1920, in Virginia, Minn., she died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Heritage Manor in Elgin. Cremation will be private.
Mrs. Smith had been a resident of Bartlett for 44 years.
She was the beloved wife for 48 years of Floyd Smith; loving mother of Thomas (Donna) Smith of Huntley, Judith Smith of Bartlett and Alan Smith of South Elgin; cherished grandmother of Kristen, Stephanie and Kimberly Smith; loving daughter of the late Peter and Frances Spehar; dear sister of Ann Larson of Britt, Minn.; and special friend of Ardell Simons.

Monsignor Frederick Stenger of Naperville
A funeral Mass for Monsignor Frederick Stenger, 94, will beheld at 11 a.m. Monday, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 26 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville. He will lie in state from 10a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Born Sept. 16, 1904, in Chicago, he died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at St. Patrick's Residence, Naperville. Interment will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville.
While still a deacon at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, he was appointed as student disciplinarian. He was ordained to the priesthood by George Cardinal Mundelein on Sept. 22, 1928, completed post-graduate studies and served on the faculty of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary from 1929 until 1945.
While on the faculty, he taught biology, directed the seminary orchestraand taught the French horn and tuba.
On March 23, 1945, he was named pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish in Naperville. In addition to his responsibilities as pastor, he served as a delegate for separation cases, coordinated the Pre-Cana and Cana movements, served as diocesan consultor, dean of the DuPage-Kendall Deanery, and was a member of the diocesan seminary board. He was designated as domestic prelate with title Monsignor in November 1954.
On July 1,1970, Monsignor Stenger was named diocesan superintendent of religious education. He was presented with the LaSallian award in December 1975. In 1976, Monsignor retired to Boca Raton, Fla. and remained there until earlier this year when he took up residence at St. Patrick Retirement Home in Naperville, due to failing health.
Survivors include his nephews, James Stenger of Napa, Calif. and Paul Stenger of Guerneville, Calif.; and nieces, Mary Kathy Stenger of Oakland, Calif. and Jennifer Moore of Belmont, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick S. and Julia (nee Pidgeon) Stenger; brothers, Julian Stenger and Bernard Stenger; and sister, Genevieve Snorkin Stenger.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Eva M. Stokr of Warrenville
A funeral Mass for Eva M. Stokr, 84, a resident of Warrenville for 48 years, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Irene Catholic Church in Warrenville. The Rev. Tom Dieter will officiate. Family and friends should meet at the church.
Born April 9, 1915, in Chicago, she died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at ManorCare in Naperville. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton.
A homemaker, she is survived by her children, Frank J. Stokr Jr. of Warrenville, Donald C. Stokr of St. Charles, Mary A. (James) Ekstrom of Warrenville and Judy A. Foos of Warrenville; and grandchildren, Celena, Shannon, Tracy, Jaimie, Shawn, Melissa and Jessica.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Stokr Sr.

Albert Leo Streich formerly of Mount Prospect
Funeral services for Albert Leo Streich will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Isaac Jogues Church, Fourth and Clay Streets, Hinsdale. Interment will be in St. Adalberts Cemetery, Niles.
Albert was a graduate of Columbia Business College. He was a member of the Chicago Real Estate Board for 35 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Northwest Builders Association and the Suburban Northwest Real Estate Association. He retired as president of the Manhatten Realty Co and was a member of the Northwest Builders Real Estate Association.
He will be remembered as one of the first Oak Street Beach lifeguards.
He was the beloved husband for 68 years of Helen; loving father, of Joyce (Robert) Anderson and Gail (Robert) Mahaney; brother, of the late Marie (Herbert) Gatz, Lester (Evelyn) Streich and Vivian (Harold) Jensen; dear grandfather of 10; great-grandfather of 17.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Elliston Funeral Home, First and Grant Street, Hinsdale.

Mildred Struckman of Elgin
Services for Mildred Struckman, 83, will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin.
Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Michael Morrissey will be officiating.
Born July 25, 1915, in Barrington, to Henry and Carrie (Freund) Toppel, she died Friday, July 2, 1999, at the Apostolic Christian Resthaven. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin.
Mildred was a resident of Elgin for most of her life. She retired from the Elgin National Watch factory and was a memberof the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elgin.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Struckman, in 1984; one sister; and one brother in infancy.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. Monday, until the time of the services.

Lillian Thomas of Elgin
Services for Lillian Thomas, 76, will be held at 11 a.m. today, at Living Gospel Church of God in Christ. The Rev. Walter Blalark will officiate.
Born April 25, 1923, in Indianola, Miss., to Lois and Eva (nee Green) Baker, she died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. Burial will be in West Side Cemetery, Batavia.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of Living Gospel Church of God in Christ of Elgin where she was First Mother and a member of the Mother's Board. She had retired from the Elgin Mental Health Center in 1975, after 10 years of services.
Surviving are her sons, Kendrick Thomas of Aurora and Shandall Thomas, Myrance Thomas and Termaine Thomas, all of Elgin; daughters, Kapree Thomas and Kara Thomas, both of Elgin; and five grandchildren. She is also survived by foster sons, Kent Lawton, Jamiel Lawton and Kendell Lawton, all of Elgin; foster daughter, Jessica Lawton of Elgin; brothers, James (Brenda) Baker and Aaron Baker, both of Elgin; sisters, Bertha Mason of Cleveland,Ohio, and Ineda Johnson of Elgin; and several nieces and nephews, including Victoria Cooper of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie Thomas Jr., on Dec. 4, 1998; sisters, Beatrice Case and Clara McMillan; and brothers, Joseph Baker, Henry Baker and Richard Baker.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. today, at the church.
