Joseph C. Siepka of Mount Prospect
A funeral Mass for Joseph C. Siepka, 75, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Cecilia Church, 700 S. Meier, Mount Prospect. He will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Born Feb. 1, 1924, in Chicago, he died Monday, June 14, 1999, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
An engineer for Commonwealth Edison, he is survived by his wife, Mildred (nee Sauder); children, Joseph (Pamela) Siepka of Inverness, Linda (Dan) Jones of Hoffman Estates and Nancy (Steve) Kasos of Hoffman Estates; brothers, Eugene (late Mildred) and Leonard (Charlene); stepbrother, Henry (Helene) Sipeka; stepsister, Irene (Joe) Fraunhoffer; grandchildren, Georgianne, Brett, Jenny, Cindy, Jessica, Nicole and Stephen; and many dear nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Fred (late Catherine).
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, at Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Rd., Mount Prospect.
George J. Smith of West Chicago
Services for George J. Smith, 61, formerly of Carol Stream, will be held at 8 p.m. today, at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Rd. (three blocks south of Biesterfield Rd.), Elk Grove Village.
Born in Chicago, he died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at St. Luke Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
A veteran of the
Army, he retired after 20 years as a grounds keeper for School District 214 (Wheeling High School).
He was the husband of the late Diana R. Smith, who preceded him in death in 1997; father of George Jr. (Debbie), Jason (Kristen) and Sheila (Jeff) Catlin; brother of Arthur and the late Shirley (Tony) Lio; and grandfather of Jessica and Adam Catlin, and Patrick and Ryan Smith.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of the services today, at the funeral home.

Genevieve E. Stran of Batavia
Funeral services for Genevieve E. Stran, 93, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia, where she will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The Rev. Philip D. Lund will officiate.
Born Feb. 26, 1906, in Batavia, to John and Betsy (nee Anderson) Freedlund, she passed away Sunday, June 13, 1999, at Provena Mercy Center Hospital, Aurora.
Interment will be in River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia.
Genevieve was a life member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia, where she never missed a single Sunday worship for more than 50 years. She was a former member of the church choir and a member of the Willing Workers Ladies Circle. In addition, she was a member of the Batavia Women's Club and the Batavia Mothers Club, and enjoyed home decorating, home canning, crocheting and knitting. She will be remembered for her devotion to herbeloved family and church.
Surviving are her daughter, Carmen (David) Anderson of Geneva; sons, Kenneth (Joyce) Stran of Geneva, Robert (Judy) Stran of Elburn and William (Melinda) Stran of Shorewood; grandchildren, Betsy (Ken) Garrison, Scott (Eileen) Anderson, Jeffrey (Beth) Stran, Timothy (Kelli) Stran, Susan (Donald) Schultze, Michael (Gay) Stran, James (Sharon) Stran, Catherine (Kirk) Anderson, Connie, Amy, Karen, Margaret and David Stran, and Jamesand Kaycee Leifheit; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Harriett and Lenore Freedlund; and brother, Wallace (Eloise) Freedlund.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Stran, whom she married Nov. 13, 1929, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia; grandson, Gary Stran; daughterin-law, Carol Stran; three sisters; and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at Yurs-Peterson Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia.

John A. `Jack' Thomas formerly of Mount Prospect
Visitation for John A. `Jack' Thomas, 73, of Bradenton, Fla., will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Rd., Mount Prospect.
Born July 28, 1925, in Chicago, he died Monday, June 14, 1999, in Bradenton. Interment will be private.
Mr. Thomas was a member of the St. Norbert College Alumni Association and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II in the 3rd Marine Division.
He was the beloved husband of Carole J. Thomas of Bradenton; dear father of Michael J. (Donna) Thomas of Wheaton, Patricia Ann (Urban) Kerner of Hudson, Wis., Mary Thomas of Buffalo Grove and the late James P. Thomas; dearest brother of Dolores Lauer of East Chicago, Ind.; and loving grandfather of seven.

Ita C. White of St. Charles Township
A funeral Mass for Ita C. White, 70, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Patrick Church, 408 Cedar, St. Charles.
Born Jan. 8, 1929, in Dublin, Ireland, the daughter of Francis and Bridgette (nee Ryan) Murphy, she died Sunday, June 6, 1999. Burial will be in Lily Lake Cemetery, Lily Lake.
She arrived in his country following World War II and after all these years, still spoke with a hint of brogue. Ita's Irish eyes were always smiling. Full of life (and sometimes mischief), she was at her best telling a joke or sharingstories with family and friends. She loved to make you laugh.
She was an artist and was endlessly creative. With a touch of this and a dab of that, she was always adding a bit of beauty. She especially enjoyed crafting finely detailed porcelain dolls for which she was well known. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Mrs. White is survived by her husband of 30 years, Paul White; children, Francis Durante and Maureen (John) Kamens, bothof Wheaton, Steven (Nancy) Durante of Warrenville, Noel Nobayashi of Melrose Park and Kiyo (Paul) Sears of St.
Charles; grandchildren, Noelle Kamens, Heather Durante, Sara Durante, Brandon Sears, Kaitlyn Sears, and Bill and Jerry Kropp; great-grandchildren, Kylie and Dylan; and brothers, Paddy (Nora) Murphy of Coventry, England and Noel Murphy of San Francisco, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Nobayashi, in 1997; and brothers, Francis and Michael Murphy.

Born March 12, 1920, in Duluth, Minn., he died Monday, June 14, 1999, at ShermanWest Court in Elgin. Burial will be private.
A veteran, Mr. Banakis had served in the
Army Artillery in the South Pacific during World War II.

Ronald F. Brightwell of Rolling Meadows

Mr. Brightwell passed away Tuesday, June 15, 1999. A Marine Corps veteran, he had served with the 4th Division during World War II.
He was the devoted husband of Kathleen J. Brightwell (nee O'Neal); loving father of Daniel J. (Terri) Brightwell, TammyS. (Michael) Bolner, John J. (Laura) Brightwell and William R. Brightwell; cherished grandfather of Marcus, Eric and Allison Brightwell, Michelle Bolner, and Leslie, Ronnie and Bridget Brightwell; and fond brother of James A. (Irene) Brightwell.

Mr. Carlson had farmed locally until 1967 and then was employed by Quad County Distributors until his retirement.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles.

A 7-year Plainfield resident, Mr. Cizek was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Church. He was a typesetter at Plainfield Enterprise and the ChicagoTribune for more than 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Plainfield; sons, David of Naperville, Richard of Downers Grove, Christopher of Glen Ellyn and Joseph of Joliet; daughter, Christina Jasko Harris of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Nicholas, Quentin, Mark and Nathan Cizek, and Lexi and Noah Jasko; sister, Elaine Schiefelbein of Willowbrook; niece, Justice; and nephew, Earl Farrell.
