Pauline A. Rand of Arlington Heights
A memorial service for Pauline A. Rand (nee Davenport), 61, willbe held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Frazier will officiate.
Born Aug. 6, 1937, in Garfield Plantation, Maine, she died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights.
Mrs. Rand had been a resident of Arlington Heights for 30 years and was formerly of Ashland, Maine. Before her retirementin 1997, she was a counselor employed by the Central States Institute for Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation, an agency of Catholic Charities with offices at the Rolling Meadows courthouse.
Survivors include her husband, Theodore A. Rand, whom she married Sept. 2, 1955; daughters, Barbara (Dr. David) Cypin of Marion, Ill., and Terri Lynn Rand (lifepartner, Jacki Rodgers) of Chicago; granddaughter, Tayler Nicole Cypin; and brother, Raymond `Skip' Davenport.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Allen and Richard Davenport.
As per her request, Mrs. Rand will be cremated and her remains will be returned to the woods and fields of northern Maine.
Rosemary E. Roberts of Palatine
Funeral services for Rosemary E. Roberts (nee Cardwell), 77, will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.
Born Dec. 28, 1921, in Denver, Colo., she died Wednesday, May 12, 1999. Interment will be private.
She was the wife of the late Fredrick T. Roberts; mother of Patrick, Raymond, Jeffrey (Karen) and Timothy (Heather) Roberts, Barbara (Ken) Otto, Dawn McElroy, Mickey (Marc) Majus and the late Roberta Cutchin; grandmother of Anthony, Renee, Michael, Adam, Trevor, Danielle, Kyle, Nicole (Daniel), Andrew, Nathan, Crystal and Rachel; great-grandmother of Daniel; and aunt of manynieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of services Friday, at the funeral home.

Glenn C. Schmidt of McHenry

Born March 12, 1943, he died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at Englewood Hospital in Englewood, Fla. Burial will be in Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
Superintendent of carpenters for Frank Stowell and Sons in Evanston, he was the husband of Nindy Lockwood of McHenry; father of Bret (Ronda) Fink of Indianapolis, Ind., Carter (Amy Eparvier) Fink of Crystal Lake, Noelle (Eric) Iversen of Woodstock, Stacey (Bill) Houck of McHenry and Corey (Steve) Fish of Chicago; brother of Wayne (Sandy) Schmidt of Tarpon Springs, Fla. and Donna Schmidt of Round Lake Beach; son of Mildred and the late Elmer A. Schmidt of Round Lake Beach; grandfather of Tabitha, Billy, Kyle, Alexandria, Westin and Owen; and uncle of two.

Melvin Slattengren of Wheaton
A memorial Mass for Melvin Slattengren, 87, a 15-year resident of Wheaton and formerly of Berwyn, will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Friday, at St. Mark Church, 303 E. Cole Ave., Wheaton.
Born May 13, 1911, in Center City, Minn., he died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield.
Mr. Slattengren had been a member of the Kiwanis Club in both Berwyn and Wheaton.
He was the beloved husband of Marcella Muehlfelt (nee Burckal); loving father of Amanda (Walter) Conklin; stepfather of Mary Ann Schmitz, Linda (Ron) Schultz, Virginia Sampson, Sindy (Dan) Rogers, Sue (John) Givens, Shirley (Jim) Harte, Sally (Paul) Craig and Steve (Teri) Muehlfelt; dear grandfather of Melinda (Robert) McGuffin, and David and Jason Gaddy; and stepgrandfather of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thomas L. Spang of Batavia
Funeral Mass for Thomas L. Spang, 66, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Cross Church, Batavia, where he will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.
Born Sept. 25, 1932, in Aurora, the son of John and Hildegard (Stull) Spang, he passed away Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at Delnor-Community Hospital, Geneva.
Tom was a 1950 East Aurora High School graduate. He worked for more than 45 years for Barber Greene in Aurora and then for Barber-Greene Caterpillar, Inc., in DeKalb until his retirement.
He served as a board member for both Aurora Central Catholic School and for Catholic Charities. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Batavia, where he served as a board member of Education and Parish Council. Tom served as a Scout Master for St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Aurora, was a former 4-H leader in Batavia and served on the Louise White School PTO. He enjoyed flower gardening, reading and special times with his beloved grandchildren.
He was a section #29 representative for Woodheaven Lakes Association in Sublette, Ill., where he and his family enjoyed more than 21 years of camping. He was a devoted husband, and loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Joan F. Spang of Batavia; six children, John Spang of Batavia, Mary (Mike) Albrecht of Sugar Grove, David Spang of Batavia, Laura Spang of Batavia, Diane (Bryan) Appel of North Aurora and Gregory Spang of Chicago; nine grandchildren, Jessica Spang, Patrick, Michelle and Daniel Albrecht, Cristi, Kelly and Eric Spang, and Davis and Rose Appel; brother, Gerald (Donna) Spang of Batavia; two sisters, Choral (Robert) Watgen of Aurora and Joan Kane of Millington; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Yurs-Peterson Funeral Home, Batavia, where a liturgical wake service will be held at 8 p.m.

George E. Strom Sr. of Mundelein
A memorial service for George E. Strom Sr., formerly of Milwaukee, Wis., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Community Protestant Church, 418 N. Prairie Ave., Mundelein.
Born July 6, 1929, in Milwaukee, Mr. Strom died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
He had been a resident of Mundelein for almost 30 years and was very active in church and the Boy Scouts, both in Milwaukee and Mundelein.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Jean E. (nee Poth); children, George Jr. (Lynda) of Lake, Mich. and Joan of Rolling Meadows; grandchildren, Jeffery and Christopher; brother, Clarence (Gertrude); sisters, Althea Fischer, Violet Kloth, Bonida Schoenecker, Jane (Robert) Heup and Una (Donald) Barbee; sistersin-law, Carol (John) Forde, Ruth (Robert) Spranger and Doris (Edward) Piacentine; a special part of the family, Nancy (Timothy) Lewis and Kelly; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Theodore R. Struve of Plato Center
Services for Theodore R. Struve, 92, will be held at 1 p.m. today, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. The Rev. Paul Meyers will officiate.
Born Dec. 3, 1906, in Wheaton, Minn., to Henry and Minnie (nee Grotemeyer) Struve, he died Monday, May 10, 1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
Burial will be in Plato Center Cemetery.
Mr. Struve had been a resident of the Plato Center area for most of his life. He farmed the family farm on McDonald Road for many years before retiring and was a member of the Kane County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy McDonald Struve, whom he married March 7, 1932; daughter, Carolyn (Robert) Gathman of Elgin; grandsons, Michael (Cindy) Gathman of Genoa and Don (Jana) Gathman of Boise, Idaho; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Heather Gathman of Genoa; and sister, Mildred Krog of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Edna Petrie.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Donald Borris of Streamwood

A veteran, Mr. Borris had served in the Navy during the
Korean War. He was retired from GTE.
He was the loving husband of Dolores Borris (nee Warren-Reagan); father of Michael John Borris of Addison, Dawn Elizabeth (Greg) Ogden of Nowthen, Minn., and Steven James (Karen) Borris of Streamwood; grandfather of Scott John, Karen and Jonathon; brother of the late Edward Anthony Borris; uncle of Edward Anthony Borris; and former fatherin-law of Doris.
A memorial visitation will be held from noon until the time of services at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

Mr. Buck was Purple Heart recipient in the Marine Corp during World War II.

Ann Lynn Byers of Naperville
Services for Ann Lynn Byers, 50, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Evangelical Free Church of Naperville, 1551 E. Hobson, Naperville.
Born Oct. 27, 1948, in Bonne Terre, Mo., she died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Edward Hospital. Interment will be on Monday, May 17, in Farmington, Mo.
Mrs. Byershad been a resident of Naperville for 15 years and was associated with the Evangelical Free Church of Naperville. She had received her bachelor of science degree from Southwest Missouri State University and her master of science degree from the University of Northern Colorado. From 1970 to 1980, she taught physical education at Farmington Elementary School, Central High School and Valle of Ste. Genevieve High School, all in Missouri. Later she was a substitute teacher for District #203 in the elementary grades, and later taught physical education at Naperville North High School. Mrs. Byers was one of the initiators of Earth Day activities in Naperville, which began in the 1980s. She also taught a variety of classes for the Naperville Park District, including country western dance and pre-ballet.
Surviving are her husband, Charlie Byers and daughters, Rebecca Ann and Jennifer Lynn, all of Naperville; maternal grandmother, Grace Berryman of Farmington; mother, Dorris McCord of Farmington; brother, Joe D. McCord of Salem, Mo.; sisters, Nancy (Harold) Huff of Farmington, Susan (Steve) James of Bonne Terre and Marilee (Joel) Stassel of Oak Ville, Mo.; nieces, Emily Miller, Leslie DePriest, Sarah and Melissa James, and Kristen Stassel; nephews, Cary Huff, Chris and Matt James, and Tim Stassel; great-niece, Allison DePriest; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph McCord.
