Raymond E. Berg of Schaumburg
The family of Raymond `Ray' E. Berg, 89, will gather at 11 a.m. today, at the chapel of Acacia Park Cemetery
and Mausoleum, 7800 W. Irving Park Rd.
(between Harlem and Cumberland Aves.), Chicago, to remember him.
Born May 8, 1909, in Chicago, he passed away Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. Inurnment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery
and Mausoleum.
Mr. Berg owned and operated a manufacturers' representative business in Chicago for many years prior to his retirement in 1965. Following retirement, he and his wife, Muriel, resided in Williams Bay, Wis., until 1979, when they relocated to Boca Raton, Fla. They returned to the Chicago area in June 1997, and were resident of Schaumburg at the time of his death. Ray enjoyed boating and golf, and he was a member of the Shriners.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Muriel Berg; sons, Ronald (Nancy) Berg of Wonder Lake and Ray (Jewel) Berg of Rolling Meadows; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many friends.

James J. Boyle Jr.
Services for James J. Boyle Jr., 79, of Indianapolis, Ind., will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at Little Flower Catholic Church in Indianapolis.
He died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis.
Burial will be on Monday, in St. Mary Cemetery, Lake Forest.
Mr. Boyle had retired as vice president of sales and marketing for Thomas and Betts, where he had worked for 20 years.
He was also the former owner of Assembled Electronic Enclosures (AEE). A veteran, he had served in the
Army Air Corps during World War II and had spent time as a POW. He was a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and currently was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church.
Surviving are his sons, James J. Boyle III and Michael F. Boyle; sisters, Clare Wise, Catherine Quill and Rosemary Maginn; brother, John Boyle; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ann Spalding Boyle.

Joseph A. Cervac of Highland Park
Services for Joseph A. Cervac, 65, formerly of Rondout, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at McMurrough Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville.
Born Sept. 21, 1933, in Rondout, he died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at Lake Forest Hospital. Burial will be in Ascension Cemetery.
A lifelong Lake County resident, he was a carpenter and a member of Local #250 and the Highwood VFW. He served in Korea in the
Army during the
Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Norma (nee Dahl); children, Joseph Jr. of Highwood, Susan Cervac of Highland Park and Kim (Dan) Littman of Glencoe; brothers, Jack (Lenore) Cervac of Libertyville, Edward (Elaine) Cervac of Highwood and William (LaVonne) Cervac of Lake Bluff; sisters, Anna (Leo) Cervetti of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Helen (Tony) Simatovich of Brookfield, Ill.; grandchildren, Allison, Sam, Danielle and David Littman; nine nieces; and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Anthony Cervac.

Jean Czapiga of North Chicago
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jean Czapiga, 81, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Born April 25, 1918, in Tarnow, Poland, she died suddenly Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at the home of her daughter, Louise, in Wadsworth. Interment will be in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, following the Mass.
Mrs. Czapiga had come to the United States 50 years ago. She was a member of Queenof Peace Church and a former member of Holy Rosary Church, the Ladies Rosary Sodality and PRCU.
Survivors include her daughters, Helen (Robert) Lee of Silver Spring, Md., Dorothy (Dave) Ashby of Wadsworth, Lynne (Duane) Bracewell and Louise S. (Marc) Stoyanoff of Wadsworth; and loving grandchildren, Helen Jeanne Lee, David Earl II and Daniel Joseph Ashby, Heather Louise and Stacie Lynne Bracewell, and Stephanie Elizabeth, Stephen Lewis and Jaclyn Louise Stoyanoff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Czapiga, on Sept. 7, 1989.

Larry P. Dorwaldt of Pingree Grove
Services for Larry P. Dorwaldt, 56, will be held at noon Saturday, at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley. Rev. Loren Krout and Rev. Edward A. Davis will officiate.
Born May 31, 1942, in Elgin, the son of Edward and Dorothy (nee Kane) Dorwaldt, he died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
He was a 1960 graduate of Elgin High School, and married Janet Scholer on Aug. 4, 1962, in Pingree Grove. Mr. Dorwaldt was a truck driver for many years, the past two years with Midwest Forestree of Prairie View and formerly for Burren Transfer of Elgin for 15 years.
He was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church of Pingree Grove, the Elginland Oldtimers, and was an avid baseball fan. He was also a former volunteer firefighter for the Pingree Grove/ Countryside Fire Protection District.
Surviving are his wife, Janet; sons, Gregory (Christine) Dorwaldt of South Elginand Geofrey (Susan) Dorwaldt of Kings, Ill.; daughter, Jenifer (Brian) Beck of Elkhorn, Wis.; mother, Dorothy Dorwaldt of South Elgin; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Scholer of Pingree Grove; brother, Jon Edward Dorwalt of Elgin; sisters, Dorothy (James) Warner of South Elgin and Susan (Ronald) Flora of Lafayette, Ind.; and one niece and four nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his father; niece, Michelle; and nephew, Edward.

Gertrude V. Duggan of Wheaton
A funeral Mass for Gertrude V. Duggan (nee Williams), 101, formerly of Glen Ellyn for 18 years, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, at St. Petronille Church, Glen Ellyn.
Born Jan. 27, 1898, in Chicago, she died Thursday, April 29, 1999, at home. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside.
A 30-year Wheaton resident, she was the loving aunt of Marguerite (late Albert) Wenzel, Betty (Glenn) Tappenden, Peggy (Gene) Figiuilo, Robert (Barbara) Duggan and Cathleen (Barry) Laskov.
She is also survived by numerous great andgreat-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Duggan; sister, Lillian Williams Johnson; brother, Walter Williams; and niece, Dorothy Johnson Newsted.

Julia Duncker of Downers Grove
Services for Julia Duncker, 16, a Downers Grove resident since 1988, will begin at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, from FriedrichJones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m., at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 26 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
Born Jan. 29, 1983, in Memphis, Tenn., she died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at home, after a four-year battle with cancer. Interment will be private.
Julia moved to Downers Grove from Memphis in 1988. She graduated from Lemont Central Junior High School and was a sophomore at Lemont Township High School. An honor roll student, Julia also played soccer and ran track, and was involved with the student council. She loved animals and nature and enjoyed horseback riding. She was also a member of St. Scholastica Church in Woodridge.
Known for her generosity, Julia was a positive influence on everyone she met.
She was the precious and much-loved daughter of Barb (nee Gorman) and Jerry Duncker of Downers Grove; and cherished sister of Matthew Duncker of Downers Grove. She leaves behind feelings of courage, strength and love that touched all who knew her, especially her proud grandparents, Robert and Millie Gorman of Wheaton, and Conrad (Meredith) Duncker of Berwyn; her aunts and uncles; her cousins; her very special friends; and her many pampered pets.
Julia was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Jeanette Duncker; uncle, Dick Gorman; and dear friend, Elizabeth.

Margaret Giffin Ellsworth of Elgin
Memorial services for Margaret Giffin Ellsworth, 86, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Chicago St., Elgin, with the Rev. Thomas Walker officiating. Private burial will be in Nova Scotia.
Mrs. Ellsworth graduated from Mount Allison University in Canada with a B. A. in 1934 and then from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing with a diploma in 1940. She then went on to earn her M. A. from Teacher's College, Columbia University in 1944. Mrs. Ellsworth held important positionsin nursing education and service throughout her 40-year career which spanned a period of unprecedented change in both nursing and in the nation's healthcare. At the time of her retirement in 1980, she was head of the Department of General Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing.
Some of Mrs. Ellsworth's more memorable positions include her tenure as Director of Nursing Service and of the School of Nursing at the New England Hospital for Women and Children in Boston, which is the nursing school from which Linda Richards and Mary Mahony graduated before the turn of the century.
Ms. Richards is generally acknowledged to be America's first trained nurse, and Ms. Mahony, America's first black trained nurse. Since preparation for nursing following World War II was moved from training in hospitals to education in colleges and universities, Mrs. Ellsworth had the difficult and unhappy task of closing this historic school in 1951.
Mrs. Ellsworth then moved to the national nursing scene as staff member of the National League for Nursing Education and participated in the massive structural changes which resulted in the formation of three American nursing organizations from the former six. Continuing on the staff of the newly formed National League for Nursing, during the 1950s she conducted numerous institutes and workshops designed to teach practicing nurses the administrative skills required for developing and managing hospitals and nursing services. This program ran collaboratively with the American Hospital Association, whose nursing specialist, Marian Fox, servedas co-conductor. Together, they conducted workshops in every state except Alaska.
During this phase of her career, Mrs. Ellsworth was also a consultant for the United States Department of State, traveling throughout several LatinAmerican countries and to the Central Treaty Organization countries of Turkey, Iran and Pakistan to consult on thedevelopment of nursing and hospitals in those countries.
Mrs. Ellsworth moved to Illinois in 1960, because of her husband's transfer to the midwest, and continued to conduct workshops to teach administrative nursing to practicing nurses throughout the state.

Vivian M. Fitzgerald of Round Lake Beach
A funeral blessing for Vivian M. Fitzgerald, 72, will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Justen's Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 N. Rosedale Court (at Cedar Lake Road), Round Lake. The Rev. Robert Fitzpatrick will officiate.
Born Nov. 4, 1926, in Chicago, to Henry and Elsie Cambensey, she died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at her home. Inurnment will be private, at St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove.
Formerly of Chicago, Mrs. Fitzgerald was a resident of Round Lake Beach for more than 20 years. She had also livedin Greenwood, S. C., for three years. While living in Chicago, she was employed by Polk Brothers for 15 years, working in many areas involving the operation of the store. Later she was employed as a claims adjuster by Bankers Lifeand Casualty in Chicago for 15 years. Following retirement, she served as an election judge for Round Lake Beach. Mrs. Fitzgerald was also a former member of St.
Ferdinand's Church in Chicago.
Survivors include her son, Michael (Cheryl) Fitzgerald of Arvada, Colo.; daughters, Margaret (Richard Daniel) Fitzgerald of Hanover Park and Mary (Terry Powell) Fitzgerald of Ware Shoals, S. C.; grandchildren, Heather and Katie Fitzgerald, Julie (Jamie) Walker, Vincent Alvarez, and Joseph and J. R. John W. Franzen of Elgin
Services for John W. Franzen, 87, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Born in Michigan, he died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Franzen was raised in Villa Park and lived there from 1912 to 1942. He attended Villa Park grade schools and York High School before moving to California in 1942. While in California he worked at defense plants. In 1951 Mr. Franzen moved back to the Elgin andCarpentersville area. He worked for and retired as a realtor and assistant manager for Leonard W. Besinger, Inc., serving as the assistant manager of the Meadowdale Shopping Center.
Surviving are his sons, John `Jack' (Judy) Franzen Jr. of Elburn, Larry (Ginny) Franzen of Elgin and Karl (Alice) Franzen of East Dundee; grandchildren, Arline (John) Mott of North Carolina, John Franzen of California, Nicky (Bret) Schur of Bartlett, Beth (John) Girard of Huntley, Mary (Jim) Nelson of Cary and Ellen (Brian) Hannah of Fox River Grove; eight great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

A lifelong Carpentersville resident, he was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Company for 35 years before retiring. He was an
Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a lieutenant in Europe. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Carpentersville and the Illinois Bell Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughters, Cindy (John) Kellermann of Grand Marsh, Wis. and Lynn (James) Eldredge of Carpentersville; son, Bruce (special friend, Wanda Masterson) Gerdau of Dundee; and grandchildren, Stacie and Jacob Burnidge, Cameo, Patrick and Megan Eldredge, and Tracy and Philip Masterson.
