Joseph Atkinson of Libertyville
Services for Joseph Atkinson, 74, will begin with prayers at 10 a.m. Monday, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave., Libertyville, and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, Libertyville.
Born March 22, 1925, in Lake Bluff, he passed away Thursday, April 15, 1999, at ManorCare Health Services in Libertyville. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Libertyville.
Mr. Atkinson was a 1942 graduate of Lake Forest High School and had been a resident of Libertyville since 1945 where he was a member of the St. Joseph Parish. A Navy veteran, he had served in Guam during World War II. Before his retirement, he had been a supervisor for Northern Illinois Gas Company in Elk Grove Village for 43 years.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine Atkinson (nee Ray) of Libertyville; children, Patricia (William) Schreck of Anchorage, Alaska, and Paul (Vicki) Atkinson of Buffalo Grove; grandchildren, Justin, Andy, Allie and Carly Schreck, and Delaney Atkinson; and brother, Matthew (Nancy) Atkinson of Park Ridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Mary Atkinson; and sisters, Mary Curnen, Sally Englebrecht, Margaret Atkinson, Roseanne Zack and Lauretta Ray.
Friends of the family may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lake County Unit, 777 Central Ave., Highland Park, IL 60035.

Anna H. Berna of Elgin
A Christian wake service for Anna H. Berna, 99, will be held at 3 p.m. today, at Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral Home, 51 Center St., Elgin. A church service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Born Oct. 9, 1899, in Dundee, she died Friday, at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin.
Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Forresters.
Survivors include her son, James R. Berna of McHenry; sister-in-law, Opal Heimann of Elgin; daughter-in-law, Jean Berna of Elgin; five grandchildren, Donna (Larry) Richert, Alan (Linda) Berna, James (Eileen) Berna, Julie Berna and Jill Berna; five great-grandchildren, Lenn (Lidia) Berna, Emily Berna, Jon Berna, Chad Richert and Mike Berna; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today, and from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
Masses would be appreciated.

Ralph W. Bowman, 62, of Schaumburg, died Thursday, April 15, 1999. Arrangements were made by Countryside Funeral Home, Bartlett, (630) 289-7575.

Polly L. Brandt of Schaumburg
Family and friends of Polly L. Brandt, 77, will gather at 9:30 a.m. Monday, at Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg, and process to St. Michael Cemetery, Palatine, for a 10:30 graveside service.
She died Friday, April 16, 1999.
She is survived by five children; 10 grandchildren; and one sister.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

William H. Carlson of Wheaton
Funeral services for William H. Carlson will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 515 S. Wheaton Ave., Wheaton.
Mr. Carlson was born Sept. 7, 1915, in Wheaton and lived there his entire life.
He died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at home.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Mr. Carlson was educated in Wheaton schools and graduated from Wheaton Community High School in 1933. A veteran, he served as a First Lieutenant in the Army, and saw active duty in the Pacific during World War II. He married Lucille Hahn, the `girl next door', on April 16, 1944, in Wheaton.
Mr. Carlson is a retired owner of Carlson Paint, Glass and Art Stores, Inc., a local family business started by his parents. William enjoyed a lifelong partnership in the family business with his best friend, brother Richard. He has been actively involved in the Wheaton community his whole life, beginning in the 1916 original Wheaton Fourth of July parade, riding as an infant in his mother's arms in a horse drawn wagon. Other than wartime, he has been in every July 4th parade since.
He was a 50-yearmember of the Wheaton Lions Club, founding member and director emeritus of the DuPage Heritage Gallery, member andformer president of the Flaxseed Club, member of the Wheaton History Center, Wheaton Masonic Lodge, and member andpast president of the Wheaton Community Association.
Carlson was a member and served as a Sunday school teacher atSt. Paul's Lutheran Church, a church his parents helped to found. In 1999, Carlson was named Outstanding Citizen of Wheaton, a tribute he cherished as a lifelong ambassador of his favorite city. He was a member of the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, where he received the Ron Brinkman Award.
Mr. Carlson is survived by his sons, Ken (Gisela) Carlson, Mark (Nancy) Carlson and Keith (Ruth) Carlson; grandchildren, Bryan, Brad, Bernt, David and Beth, all of Wheaton; sister, Bernice Flynn of Nanuet, N. Y.; and first cousin, Vera Runstrom of Wheaton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; brother, Richard; and parents, Anton and Lydia Carlson.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton.
The family suggests memorials to the DuPage Community Foundation, 110 N. Cross, Wheaton, IL 60187, Wheaton History Center, 606 N. Main St., Wheaton, or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 515 S. Wheaton Ave., Wheaton.

Margaret A. Dahle of Mount Prospect
Services for Margaret A. Dahle, 72, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 S. Wille St., Mount Prospect.
Born Nov. 22, 1926, in Minot, N. D., she died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights.
A homemaker, she was the wife of Willard Dahle; mother of Douglas (Michelle), Craig (Lisa) and Mark (Kim); and grandmother of Kristi, Kim, Spencer, Elizabeth, Megan and Mallisa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd. at Northwest Hwy., Mount Prospect, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services Monday, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church (see address listed above), would be appreciated.

Lucille Doyle of Arlington Heights
Services for Lucille Doyle (nee Shill), 73, will begin with prayers at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights, and continue with Mass at 10 a.m., at St. James Church, 841 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.
Born Nov. 2, 1925, in Aurora, she died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
She was the beloved wife for 53 years of John A. Doyle; loving mother of Linda (Peter A.) Long of Hustisford, Wis., and the late Patricia A. Doyle; cherished grandmother ofScott, Tricia, Tori and Tracy; dear sister of Harry I. (Jan) Shill, John V. (Beverly) Shill and Jessie (Maxine) Phillips; and loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
Masses in her memory would be appreciated.

Dorothy L. `Dottie' Drew of Naperville
Services for Dorothy L. `Dottie' Drew, 72, will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 117 W. Van Buren, Naperville, with the Rev. Robert McWilliamsofficiating.
Born March 9, 1927, in Cameron, Mo., she died Friday, April 16, 1999, at her home. Interment will be private.
Mrs. Drew came to Naperville in 1951 from Chicago. She received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and her master of education degree from La Verne College in La Verne, Calif. Shetaught first and second grade for 30 years in Naperville School District #203 at Beebe, Highland, Elmwood and Maplebrook Elementary Schools. She was a member of the DuPage County Retired Teachers Association and also loved to read and play bridge.
Surviving are her son, Gary (Audrey) Drew of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Lory (Isaac) Santiagoof Naperville; brother, James C. (Mary) Wood of Daytona Beach, Fla.; sister, Rowena Pfeifer of Morris, Ill.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Florina (nee Crall) Wood; and husband, Walter Drew, in 1989.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of services at 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
Memorials in Mrs. Drew's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 999 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.

Carl A. Johnson of Elburn
Services for Carl A. Johnson, 61, will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, at YursWittenberg Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St. (Route 38), Geneva. The Rev. Robert Kasperson will officiate.
Born March 14, 1938, in Chicago, to John and Helen Johnson, he passed away Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Countryside Care Center in Aurora.
Mr. Johnson was the owner of the Kaiser's Five and Dime Stores, the Golden Thimble Fabric Stores in Geneva and St. Charles, Kaiser's Unfinished Furniture Stores of West Chicago and St. Charles, and Kaiser's Flowers of St. Charles.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Johnson; sons, Mark Johnson of Carson City, Nev., and David (Kris) Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Ralph (Helen) Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Betty LaMotte of NewAlbany, Ind.; and grandson, Steven Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Helen M. Kowal of Willow Lakes Estates, Elgin
Private services for Helen M. Kowal, 81, will be held Monday, at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
Born Oct. 7, 1917, in Wayne, the daughter of Frank and Marie Rittis, she died Thursday April 15, 1999, at Sherman Hospital. Private burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
A resident of Bartlett and Elgin most of her life, she was a waitress before retiring.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Kowal; stepson, Dennis (Mary) Kowal of Peach Bottom, Pa.; stepgrandchildren, Ken, Kathy and KevinKowal; sister, Dorothy (Clarence) Fakles of Ontarioville, Ill.; and nephew, Jack Fakles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Marilyn McDonald.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Theresa M. Leibrandt of Elgin
Services for Theresa M. Leibrandt (nee Lullo), 76, will be held at 10:15 a.m. Monday, at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd. (at Barrington Road), Streamwood/Schaumburg, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Marcelline Church.
Born March 15, 1923, in Chicago, she died Friday, April 16, 1999, at St. Alexius Medical Center. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
She was the mother of Vivian (Stan) Kolodziej of Schaumburg; stepmother of John Leibrandt of Schaumburg; sister of Joseph (Virginia) Lullo of Naperville and Marian Lullo of Las Vegas, Nev.; and grandmother of Kristen, Kendra, Kyle, Stephen, Thomas, Barbara and Kathryn.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
