Roger E. Hill of South Elgin
Private funeral services for Roger E. Hill, 49, were held at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
Born Aug. 19, 1949, in Elgin, the son of Earl and Lila Sjurset Hill, he died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital.
He is survived by his mother, Lila Hill of South Elgin; and brother, Thomas Hill of Crystal Lake.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Hill.

Alice Rose Hodgson (nee Brown), 79, of Westmont, died Thursday, April 8, 1999. Arrangements were made by Toon Funeral Home, Downers Grove, (630) 968-0408.

Jack D. Hughes formerly of Arlington Heights
Services for Jack D. Hughes, 84, of Chesapeake, Va., formerly a longtime resident of Arlington Heights, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at South Church, 501 S. Emerson, Mount Prospect. He will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services. The Rev. Dr. Jack Skiles will officiate.
Born Jan. 31, 1915, in Onaway, Mich., he died Tuesday, April 6,1999, at his home surrounded by his family. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
After completing high school, Mr. Hughes worked for General Motors as the master of ceremonies for the Parade of Progress. In 1944, after serving in World War II, he moved to the Chicago area and became associated with Littelfuse, Inc. For more that 37 yearsat Littelfuse, Mr. Hughes worked his way up from expediter to president and CEO prior to retiring in 1981. He alsoserved on the board of directors for the First National Bank of Des Plaines.
Mr. Hughes served in the signal corps as an expediter during World War II. He was a founder and member of the board of directors for Northwest Community Hospital and the Lattof YMCA, which dedicated a wing in his honor last year.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer and a longtime member of Rolling Green Country Club.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Geraldine M. `Gerry' (nee Mackay); son, Robert (Sharron) of Chesapeake; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert of Bradenton, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd. (four blocks south of Palatine Rd.), Arlington Heights.

Albert J. Lortie of Round Lake Park since 1952
Funeral services for Albert J. Lortie, 82, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Ltd., 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake Born Jan. 8, 1917, in Chicago, he passed away Friday, April 9, 1999, at Lake Forest Hospital. Interment will be private.
Mr. Lortie attended church at St. Gilbert Catholic Church in Grayslake and at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Round Lake. He retired in 1982 from the Grayslake Gelatin Company.
He leaves his loving wife, Eileen A. (nee O'Connor), whom he wed June 20, 1942, in Chicago; daughter, Maureen Mack of Round Lake Heights; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers; and twosisters.
He was preceded in death by his son, James P. Lortie, June 26, 1998.
Friends of the family may visit at the funeral chapel Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Lortie's name.

Suzanne M. Meissner of Naperville
Services for Suzanne M. Meissner, 27, will begin with prayers at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 26 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
Born Aug. 18, 1971, in Elkhart, Ind., she died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Edward Hospital, Naperville. Interment will be in Sts. Peter andPaul Cemetery, Naperville.
Suzanne had been a lifelong resident of Naperville, attending Elmwood Grade School, Sts. Peter and Paul Junior High, and graduating from Naperville Central High School. She studied at Aurora University where she received her bachelor of science degree in therapeutic recreation and administration, and worked for the South East Association for Special Parks and Recreation (SEASPAR) in Downers Grove. Suzanne had a great love for theelderly and the handicapped.
Survivors include her mother, Marianne Smith of Missouri; father, David H. Smith of Naperville; former husband, Scott Meissner; sister, Laura (Allen) Cavender of North Aurora; brothers, David M. (Jill) and Stephen M. Smith, both of Joplin, Mo.; nieces and nephews, Faith, Sarah, Rachel, Luke and Noah Cavender, and Daniel and David Schultz; uncles, Richard A. (Mary Jean) Smith of Elmhurst and Bill (Peggy) Weidman of Fort Smith, Ark.; and numerous cousins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Clifford L. Messmer, 71, of Westmont, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999. Arrangements were made by Toon Funeral Home, Westmont, (630) 968-2262.

Barbara Faith Moore longtime resident of Wheaton
Services for Barbara Faith Moore, 80, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton.
Born Feb. 1, 1919, in Galt, Mo., she died Friday, April 9, 1999, at her home. Entombment will follow the services in Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Arlington Heights.
Mrs. Moore was a member of Perrin-Wheaton DAR and the Hope Presbyterian Church in Wheaton. She had been a manager of the F. W. Woolworth store in Wheaton until its closing in 1979.
Fay was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth P. Moore; daughter, Nancy (Thomas) Clinkenbeard of Winfield; two grandsons, Keith (Ruth Ann) Clinkenbeard and Karl Clinkenbeard; and one great-grandson, Joshua Keith Edward Clinkenbeard.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Irwin O. Nejdl of Downers Grove for six years
Funeral services for Irwin O. Nejdl, 80, formerly a Naperville resident since 1958, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Community United Methodist Church, 20 N. Center St., Naperville, with the Revs. Thomas Babler and Jane Eesley officiating.
Born Feb. 1, 1919, in Chicago, he died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hosptial in Downers Grove. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park.
Mr. Nejdl was employed for 49 years as chief chemist for Ideal Roller and Manufacturing Company, currently known as Rotodyne, which is located in Hinsdale.
Mr. Nejdl had served as president of the Chicago Section of the Chicago Rubber Group of the American Chemical Society, which is an international organization. He was very active at Community United Methodist Church in Naperville, where he served as president of his Sunday School class. He was also a Sunday School teacher and counselor, and served on a number of church committees. He was active at Fairview Baptist Retirement Community in Downers Grove and was a volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital. In his spare time, he enjoyed working around his home, reading, and solving crossword puzzles.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian (nee Joseph); son, Irwin F. (Patricia) and daughter, Bobbie Dean, both of Naperville; five grandchildren, Wayne (Lea) Dean of Cicero, Jennifer Dean of Chicago, Dana and Laurel Bull, both of Rockford and Rachel Bull of Naperville; two great-grandchildren, Anissa Marie and Dominique Angelica Dean, both of Cicero; one sister, Ruth (Norman) Jorgenson of Redding, Calif. and brother, Benjamin (Loretta) Nejdl of Rolling Meadows.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Grayce Hruda.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 117 W. Van Buren, Naperville.

Selma V. Newberg
Services for Selma V. Newberg, 93, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich.
Born Nov. 15, 1905, in Nybro, Sweden, she died Wednesday,April 7, 1999, at Governors Park Nursing Home in Barrington. Interment will be in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Zurich.
Mrs. Newberg was a member of Sijan Mora Tuna Lodge #134.
She was the loving mother of Roy G. and B. Alan (Gail) Newberg, Shirley A. (Pierre) La Bouve, and the late Paul K. and Elsie M. Newberg; cherished grandmother of Paulette Vargas, Penny-June Nixon, Valerie La Bouve, Michele Jacobson, Elsa Chandra, Debra Newberg, David Koppa and Kristin Koppa; and great-grandmother of four.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Esther Nicholas of West Chicago
Visitation for Esther Nicholas (nee Thanas) will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St. (3/4 mile west of Bloomingdale/Roselle Road), Roselle. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m., at St. Demetrios Church in Elmhurst. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Nicholas; devoted mother of Gus, Connie, Mary, Joan and Peter; and fond grandmother and great-grandmother of many.

Kenneth R. Ostrander of Mundelein
Services for Kenneth R. Ostrander, 47, will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176), Libertyville.
Born Aug. 1, 1951, in Chicago, he passed away suddenly Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Condell Medical Center, Libertyville.
Mr. Ostrander had been aresident of Mundelein for the past 23 years. Raised in Libertyville, he was a 1969 graduate of Libertyville High School. He was a former general manager at Sessler Ford in Libertyville and was later employed in sales and management at Jackson Auto Sales in Waukegan. Among his special interests, he was an avid sportsman and loved to fish.
Surviving are his wife, Carole Ostrander (nee Mortensen); children, Aimee Kristine Ostrander of Libertyville and Bryan Kenneth Ostrander of Mundelein; parents, Robert and Veronica Ostrander of Libertyville; brother, Lester Ostrander of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; sisters, Kathleen (Saford) Wilson of Mundelein and Cynthia (Paul) Schaffer of Wildwood; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends of the family may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, with services at 5 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family for an educational fund being established for his children.

Ellen Passau of Barrington
Services for Ellen Passau (nee Woods), 80, a 31-year resident of Barrington, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at StirlenPieper & Davenport Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-CookRoad), Barrington. Kimberly Borzym, a chaplain from Advocate Hospice, will officiate.
Born Aug. 13, 1918, in Fort Wayne, Ind., she passed away Friday, April 9, 1999, in her home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Passau was a homemaker and was active in the community. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Auxiliary since its formation, a member of the Barrington Community Associates and also a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club. She enjoyed art, nature, needlepoint and gardening, and she loved animals.
Survivors include her children, Louis F. Passau of Barrington and Dennis G. Passau of Lake in the Hills; brothers, Lewis (Bettie) Woods of Edwardsburg, Mich., and Glenn H. (Marilyn) Wood of East Troy, Mich., and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manfred Passau, whom she married Dec. 23, 1945, in South Bend, Ind.; her parents, Harry Jr. and Bessie Woods; and herbrother, Richard Woods.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mae R. Pepper of West Dundee
Funeral services for Mae R. Pepper, 69, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee, with the Rev. Will Nolen officiating.
Born in Gilberts Oct. 31, 1929, the daughter of Henry and Cordelia (nee Schlem) Moeller, she died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, ather home, following a courageous battle with cancer. Burial will be in Dundee Township East Cemetery, East Dundee.
Mrs. Pepper, a lifelong resident of the Dundee area, was a 1947 graduate of Dundee Community High School. She was the owner and operator of H & M Limousine Service of Dundee.
She is survived by five children, Robert (Judy) Volz of Minong, Wis., Tina (Herman) Ash of Carpentersville, Dorothy de Rivera of Dundee, Tom Pepper of Elburn and Penny (John) Pepper-Tidwell of West Dundee; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia J. Moeller of West Dundee and Mary (Warren) Tinberg of Gravel Switch, Ky.
Mrs. Pepper was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry H. Pepper, on Oct. 13, 1984; and her sister, Henrietta Riggs, on March 27, 1985.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
