David G. Pettengill of Libertyville
Services for David G. Pettengill, 73, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176), Libertyville. Rev. James E. Scorgie will officiate.
Born Feb. 14, 1926, in Chicago, he passed away Saturday, March 27, 1999, at his home. Interment will bein Lakeside Cemetery, Libertyville.
Mr. Pettengill was a Libertyville resident for most of his life. He was a graduate of the Culver military Academy and a 1951 graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was a member of the United methodist Church in Libertyville and before his retirement in 1987, had been a communications director for the American Nuclear Society.
Surviving are his wife, Monika of Libertyville; sons, Paul Pettengill of Gurnee and David Pettengill of Coram, Mont.; daughters, Laura (Byron Lampher) Pettengill of Missoula, Mont. and Susan Pettengill of Seattle, Wash.; and stepson, Rainer (Connie) Nussbaumer and stepgrandsons, Oliver and Daniel, all of Austria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marion (nee Taylor) Pettengill; and sister, Nancy Degan.
Friends of the family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Chester W. Pinas formerly of Arlington Heights
Prayers for Chester W. Pinas, 69, of Las Vegas, Nev., will be said at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, at Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave. (two blocks south of Dundee Rd. ), Wheeling.
Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine Laboure Church, Glenview.
Born Dec. 8, 1929, in Chicago, he died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at Summerlin Hospital in Las Vegas. Burial will be private.
Mr. Pinas wasa retired accountant having worked for Motorola for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine (nee Kozak); children, James (Kate), Walter (Margaret), Mark (Mary) and Mary Pinas; grandchildren, Melissa, Kevin, Megan, Sean, Matthew, Emily, Melanie, Kathleen, Claire and Catherine; great-grandson, Kyle; and sisters-in-law, Ethel (Larry) Kinder, Diana (Raymond) DeMatteo and Marilyn (Ronald) Mayer.

Helen C. Pitzen of Lakemoor
A funeral Mass for Helen C. Pitzen, 78, will be held at noon Tuesday, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church St., Johnsburg, Ill. Rev. Robert Balog will officiate.
Born Jan. 27, 1921, in Humphrey, Neb., the daughter of John and Mary Catherine (nee Smith) Fuchs, she died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at home. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.
On January 8, 1949, at St. Francis Church in Humphrey, she married Laurence N. Pitzen Sr. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and Catholic Order of Foresters - St. Agatha Court 777. She was an avid sports fan supporting the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and DePaul Blue Demons. She had worked in the cafeteria at Edgebrook Grade School in McHenry.

Gary W. Reber of Elgin
Services for Gary W. Reber, 67, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. The Rev. Theodore Preuss will officiate.
Born Jan. 23, 1932, in Elgin, to Harold and Louise Reber, he passed away Friday, March 26, 1999, in Williamsburg, Va.
Burial will be in Bartlett Cemetery.
Mr. Reber was a veteran, having served in the
Army in Korea. He had been employed by ITW-Shakeproof for 37 years prior to his retirement in 1987. Gary was one of the founding fathers of the NWTA-Proctors Corps of the ArtilleryRevolutionary War Reinactment Group.
Surviving are his wife, Judith L. Reber of Elgin; daughter, Elizabeth (Phillip) Stander of Island Lake; stepdaughters, Barbara (Roy) Raupp of Elgin and Debra (Frank) Kottmeier of Hampshire; and grandchildren, Mary Ann, Courtney and Tiffany Stander, Ryan and Andy Raupp, and Samantha, Abby and Emilie Kottmeier.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Ann Reber (nee Ortmann), in 1987; and uncle, Clarence Reber.

Born April 29, 1931, in St. Joseph, Mo., she died Wednesday, March 25, 1999, in Hoffman Estates. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
She graduated from William Jewel College, was a member of the DAR and Bible Study Fellowship, president of the Hillcrest PTA and Church Hill PTA and deacon of the Church of the Cross.
Survivors include her husband, George, whom she married on March1, 1952; children, George III (Meg), William M. (Mona) and Victoria Ann (Michael) Ferry; and grandchildren, Maureen, Joe and David Ferry, and George IV, Daniel, Rachel, Christine and Nathan Seaver.

Lawrence R. Simmons formerly of St. Charles
Services for Lawrence R. Simmons, 71, of Harrison, Ark., also formerly of Genoa, Ill., will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles.
Born April 26, 1927, in Johnson City, N. Y., the son of Raymond and Bessie (nee Worden) Simmons, he died Thursday, March 25, 1999, in Harrison. Burial will be in River Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Batavia.
Before his retirement, he was employed by Burgess Norton Manufacturing in Geneva. He attended the Assembly of God Christian Center in St. Charles.
Survivors include his daughters, Gloria (Charles) Ogelvie of Genoa, Pat (Kenneth) Stone of Harrison and Vickie (Benny) Cuellar of San Antonio, Texas; son, Lawrence S. (Wilma) of Elm Springs, Ark.; brother, James of Binghamton, N. Y.; sister, Florence (Robert) Schumacher of Candor, N. Y.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Verna Helen Tannery of Naperville

Born May 3, 1912, in Naperville, she died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Interment will be private.
A lifelong Naperville resident, she was born on the Meisinger farm located on South Washington Street which was then called River Road. Mrs. Tannery's grandparents were the Bailey Hobson's. Her late uncle Andy Stoos ran the popcorn stand which is now part of Naper Settlement and Stoos Lane in Naperville is named after Andy. Her mother was one of the first of three phone operators in Naperville. Mrs. Tannery was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church and was very active in Sister Aniceta's Young at Heart Senior Group at the church. She joined the Naperville Woman's Club in 1956 and was very active in the club. She was also very active with the Naperville Senior Citizen's Group as well as a member of the Moose Lodge Chapter #83 in Aurora. Mrs. Tannery worked at National Foods in Naperville for a number of years. She also worked as a sales clerk and did alterations for both the Mother & Daughter Shop and Lillyans Clothing Shop located in downtown Naperville.
Mrs. Tannery was a graduate of Washington School.
Survivors include her son, Robert of Sebastian, Fla.; daughter, Alva Jean Chastain of Naperville; grandchildren, Jason and Micah Tannery, Tracy Gentile and Steven Chastain; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Aly and Alex Gentile; and sisterin-law, Clara Tannery of Naperville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Jeanette (nee Stoos) Meisinger; husband, Elmer G. Tannery; and brothers, James, Robert and Fred Meisinger.

Harry Verploegh formerly of Wheaton
Services for Harry Verploegh, 90, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, formerly of Wheaton, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Wheaton Bible Church, Main and Franklin Streets, Wheaton.
Born June 14, 1908, in Rotterdam, Holland, he passed away Saturday, March 27, 1999, at Torrey Johnson Health Care Center. Interment will be in Wheaton Cemetery

Mr. Verploegh was the retired president of the Frederick Ryder Company, advertising typographers. In addition, he had more than 20 anthologies published on the sayings of A. W. Tozer, Oswald Chambers and George McDonald, and contributed a regular column to the Alliance Life Magazine. He had been a member of Oak Lawn Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and in recent years had attended Wheaton Bible Church. He loved and collected violins, and had been a longtime student of the well-known violin instructor, George Perlman.
Surviving are his children, Virginia (David) Steinmetz of Durham, N. C., and Case (Kathleen) Verploegh of Millbrae, Calif.; grandchildren, Beth Anderson of Walnut Creek, Calif., Claire Stuebe of Fort Garland, Colo., Angela Verploegh of Fremont, Calif., Alexis Davidson of San Diego, Calif., and Matthew Steinmetz of Durham; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Brooks, Joel and Carl; sister, Annette (Carlyle) Baehne; and brother-in-law, Warren (Marilyn) Wetherell of Naperville.
