Thaddeus J. Matus, O. D. of Arlington Heights
Services for Dr. Thaddeus J. Matus, 79, will begin with prayers at 8:45 a.m. Monday, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, and continue with Mass at 9:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 440 S. Mitchell, Arlington Heights.
Born Jan. 10, 1920, in Chicago, he died Friday, March 26, 1999, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove Village.
Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum, Des Plaines.
Dr. Matus was an optometrist for more than 35 years and practiced in the Belmont and Central area in Chicago. He was a longtime member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Illinois Optometric Association (IOA).
He was the beloved husband of Josephine Matus (nee Bujak); loving father of Georgiana (William Macey), Marcia and Dr. Martin (Dr. Rhea Jukes) Matus; proud grandfather of William, Todd and Lauren Macey, and Morgan Matus; dear brother of Irene (the late Aloysius) Kulpa; and fond uncle of Judy (Dr. Michael Conmy) Kulpa.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Martha V. Randle of Arlington Heights
Services for Martha V. Randle (nee Wagner), 98, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights.
Born Aug. 9, 1900, in Chicago, she died Friday, March 26, 1999, at Hearthstone Nursing Center, Mesa, Ariz. Entombment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Chicago.
Mrs. Randle was a retired stage violinist who had performed with both the Ziegfield Follies and the Fibber McGee and Molly programs.
She was the beloved wife of the late Wilford L. Randle, who preceded her in 1989; loving mother of Richard (Ruth) Randle; cherished grandmother of Janice Noble, Carol Andersonand William Randle; and great-grandmother of one.
She was also the dear sister of the late Richard Wagner, LillianHill and Henrietta Hampton.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be madeto the Chicago Heart Association.
Shirley M. Renard of South Elgin
Services for Shirley M. Renard, 76, will be held at 11 a.m. today, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. The Rev. Titus Soloman will officiate.
Born March 5, 1923, inSt. Charles, to William B. and Edith (nee Johnson) Clarke, she died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Mrs. Renard had been a resident of South Elgin since 1957 and was a member of the First Christian Church of Elgin. Among her special interests, she was an avid teddy bear collector.
Survivors include her husband, William J. Renard, whom she married June 26, 1954;sons, Clarke (Beverly) Renard of Hampshire and Roger (Julie) Renard of Elgin; grandchildren, Jenlee, Christopher and Valerie; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be given to the Jayne Shover Easter Seal Center of the First Christian Church.
Patrick B. Sandell of North Barrington
Prayers for Patrick B. Sandell, 51, will be said at 9:30a.m. Monday, at Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich. Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, 11 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich.
Born March 1, 1948, in Chicago, he died Friday, March 19, 1999, in Hong Kong. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
Mr. Sandell was a member of Biltmore Country Club, chairman of A. N. S. I. Standards Committee X3B11, president of Opticord Incorporated and chairman of Accu-Mem Systems, Incorporated.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa M., whom he married on April 11, 1970; daughters, Elise A. and Denise L.; mother, Monique Sandell; brother, Michael (Sylvia); sisters, Nancy Jean (Randall) Schoo, Betty (Ron) Blank and Anne-Marie (Kevin) Bridges; and nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Sandell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Robert H. Schroeder of Batavia
A funeral Mass for Robert H. Schroeder, 86, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Holy Cross Church in Batavia.
He will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The Rev. DavidHuber will officiate.
Born Oct. 12, 1912, in Abingdon, Ill., the son of Emil and Maude (McClelland) Schroeder, hePassed away Thursday, March 25, 1999, at Provena Pine View Care Center. Interment will be in East Batavia Cemetery.
Robert was employed at the Challenge Company in Batavia from 1929 to 1949.
He then worked at Mooseheart from 1949 until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Batavia and The Loyal Order of Moose, Batavia Lodge #682.
He is survived by his brothers, George (Kathleen) Schroeder of Batavia and Fred (Marjorie) Schroeder of Batavia; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harry and Walter Schroeder; and sister, Agnes Schultz.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, where a liturgical wake service will be held at 1:30 p.m.

Phyllis A. Seaver of Hoffman Estates

Born April 29, 1931, in St. Joseph, Mo., she died Wednesday, March 25, 1999, in Hoffman Estates. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
She graduated from William Jewel College, was a member of the DAR and Bible Study Fellowship, president of the Hillcrest PTA and Church Hill PTA and deacon of the Church of the Cross.
Survivors include her husband, George, whom she married on March 1, 1952; children, George III (Meg), William M. (Mona) and Victoria Ann (Michael) Ferry; and grandchildren, Maureen, Joe and David Ferry, and George IV, Daniel, Rachel, Christine and Nathan Seaver.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of the services Sunday, at the funeral home.

Frank B. Sherwood of Elgin

Born Oct. 5, 1904, in Elgin, to Frank and Mary Ann Sherwood, he passed away Friday, March 26, 1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Elgin, Mr. Sherwood had been employed by the Elgin National Watch Company for many years, prior to his retirement.
Survivors include his sons, Ralph (Nancy) Sherwood of South Elgin, Dale Sherwood of Elgin and Greg (Janice) Sherwood of Carpentersville; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth Sherwood, in 1996; and three sisters.

Lawrence R. Simmons formerly of St. Charles
Services for Lawrence R. Simmons, 71, of Harrison, Ark., also formerly of Genoa, Ill., will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles.
Born April 26, 1927, in Johnson City, N. Y., the son of Raymond and Bessie (nee Worden) Simmons, he died Thursday, March 25, 1999, in Harrison. Burial will be in River Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Batavia.
Before his retirement, he was employed by Burgess Norton Manufacturing in Geneva. He attended the Assembly of God Christian Center in St. Charles.
Survivors include his daughters, Gloria (Charles) Ogelvie of Genoa, Pat (Kenneth) Stone of Harrison and Vickie (Benny) Cuellar of San Antonio, Texas; son, Lawrence S. (Wilma) of Elm Springs, Ark.; brother, James of Binghamton, N. Y.; sister, Florence (Robert) Schumacher of Candor, N. Y.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 1996; his parents; and infant brother, Kenneth.

Charles T. Smallwood of Naperville
A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles T. Smallwood, 92, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Patrick's Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville, IL 60563.
Born Aug. 1, 1906, in Houxton Cambridge, England, he died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at St. Patrick's Residence. Interment will bein All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
Mr. Smallwood was a longtime resident of River Forest, Oak Brook and Naperville. He was a graduate of Loyola Academy and a 1930 graduate of Notre Dame University, where he received his degree in architecture. As president of Carroll Construction in Chicago, Mr. Smallwood built numerous Chicago buildings. Hewas also a member of the 50 Year Club of Notre Dame and of St. Elizabeth Seton Church.
Surviving are his son, Charles T. (Mary) Smallwood Jr., M. D., of South Easton, Mass.; daughters, Mary Lou Ryan of Schaumburg and Cambridge, England, Nancy Ann Saviski of Homewood and Kathleen (Robert) Carter of Naperville; grandchildren, Julia Wheatley, David Smallwood, Christopher, Bruce, Michael and David Ryan, Frederic Jr., David, Mark and Paul Saviski, Elizabeth O'Neill, Amy Smith and Robert Carter Jr.; great-grandchildren, Claire Ryan, Michael J. Ryan, John Wheatley, Taylor and Cullen Smallwood, Thomas, Jennifer and Clare Saviski, and Jack O'Neill; and sister-inlaw, Madeline Phillips.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Smallwood; four sisters; and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, and from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Patrick's Residence.

Francine Jean Taff of Palatine

Born Dec. 20, 1922, in Oak Park, she died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at ManorCare in Rolling Meadows.
She was a member and first secretary for Bethel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, William Howard Taff; brother-in-law, Robert (Florence) Taff; sister-in-law, Marion (Harold) Erickson; and cousins, Herbert Ohnesorge andLoryne Bohn.
