Badalamenti, Ronald P.
1942 - 2004
Ronald P. Badalamenti died at his home in Idaho Springs, Colo., on Thursday morning, June 17, 2004.
Mr. Badalamenti, son of the late Marie Sansone and Joseph Badalamenti was born on Feb. 7, 1942, and was a long-time resident of Edwardsville.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Joseph.
Ronnie B, as Mr. Badalamenti is fondly remembered, is survived by his wife: Mary Jo Badalamenti who is currently residing in Colorado; a brother: Lewis G. Badalamenti and special friend, Jackie Rader of Edwardsville; a sister: Toni Badalamenti Siler and husband, Tom of Edwardsville; brothers-in-law: John and Allen Head shared Ron's love for Colorado and enjoyed time there, with Allen lending special care over the last several weeks. Others who will miss Ron are sisters-in-law, Cathy Farrell and husband, Blair of St. Louis, and Vicki Graves and husband, Brad of Woodberry, Minn.; nieces and nephews, other family members, plus many friends and neighbors.
Ronnie B. partnered with his brother, Lewis, in owning and running Rusty's restaurant, which had been founded in 1942 by their father, Joseph. Ron Badalamenti then opened his own business in edwardsville called Ronnie B's. Lather, his long interest in Colorado led him to a health food store, Terrasini, which he and his wife founded in Boulder, Colo., and named after the family hometown in Sicily. He returned to his home in Edwardsville for some years, but was drawn back to Colorado in 2000. Throughout his years in both Edwardsville and Colorado, Ron's creative efforts in both photography and custom stained glass were greatly appreciated by his friends, family and clients. Ron's last job was at Gilpin's Hotel and Casino, where he worked in security.
After struggling with lung cancer for several months, Ronnie Badalamenti died peacefully in his sleep. There will be no funeral, but a celebration of his life will be conducted in Edwardsville, the details of which will be announced at a later date.
The family requests no flowers, but expressions of sympathy or donations to the Ronnie B. Memorial Fund may be directed to Lewis Badalamenti at 438 Buena Vista, Edwardsville, IL 62025. The specific recipients of the fund have not been determined, but will be announced at the celebration at a later date.
Ellis, Carrie Ann
1957 - 2004
Carrie Ann Ellis, age 46, of Edwardsville, died at 4:31 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1957 in Alton, the daughter of the former Walter Ellis Sr. and Minnie Lee Ellis.
Survivors include a son: Darsell Ellis of Edwardsville; four sisters: Minnie Lee Lindsey of East St. Louis, Lucille Bargiel and her husband, Paul of Collinsville, Dorothy M. Ellis Williams Lott and her husband, Calvin of Edwardsville, and Margaret Lee Glasper and her husband, Lawrence of St. Louis; one brother: Charles Ellis and his wife, Tina of Edwardsville; one uncle: Ben Ellis and his wife, Louise of East St. Louis; four aunts: Clara Gholston of Chicago, Lucy McCastle of St. Louis, and Mary Ida Richardson and Sal Tucker, both of Racine, Wis.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Walter Ellis Jr., Sylvester Ellis and Michael Ellis.
Ms. Ellis was employed by Wayne's Cleaners and Holiday Cleaners in Edwardsville. She was a graduate of Edwardsville High School and a member of Mount Joy Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, June 22, until the time of service at the Church of God in Christ Congregational in Edwardsville.
Funeral services will begin at noon on Tuesday, June 22, at the church with Elder Jack Townsend officiating.
Interment will be at Woodlawn cemetery in Edwardsville.

Huser, Laurabelle E.
A brief graveside interment service will be conducted for Laurabelle E. Huser at the Village of Glen Carbon cemetery, located on Guy Street in Old Town Glen Carbon at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, with Rev. Maurice Lee officiating.
McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home of Wooster, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.
Kirsch, Iola Fulton
Iola Fulton Kirsch, age 93, of Collinsville, died at 3:49 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2004, in Collinsville.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Friedens cemetery in Troy.
Memorials are suggested to St. John United Church of Christ in Collinsville or the American Cancer Society.
Kowalczyk, Florian I.
1922 - 2004
Florian I. Kowalczyk, age 82, of Granite City, died on Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
He was born on April 3, 1922, in Madison, the son of the late Samuel and Ann Madej Kowalczyk.
He married
Regina Hamernik on June 12, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madison. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by a son: Robert Kowalczyk of Granite City; three daughters: Barbara Petrosky and husband, Bob of Holiday Shores, Diane Hocking of Decatur, and Judy Boelling and husband, Kent of O'Fallon, Mo.; a brother: Ed Kowalczyk and wife, Theresa of Madison; two sisters: Terry Gula and husband, Ed of Granite City and Cecelia Kowalczyk of Madison; grandchildren: Patricia Buckley, Steven, Michelle and Brian Petrosky, Angela Maffeo and husband, Tony, and Timothy and Brittany Hocking; great-grandchildren: Christopher Buckley, and Chadd, Dusten, Tessa and Heather Petrosky; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister: Lucy Krawiecki.
Mr. Kowalczyk was a pipefitter for Union Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of the armed services. His memberships included the Polish Veterans of Foreign War, St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Boosters, AmVets, American Legion Post 307 PRCUA Polish Hall and Operating Engineer Local 148.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 21, at Thomas Saksa Funeral Home in Pontoon Beach. A prayer service will be conducted at 6 p.m.]
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madison with Fr. Francis Tebanguara, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at Calvary cemetery in Edwardsville.

Schmidt, Charles "Chuck"
1926 - 2004
Charles "Chuck" Schmidt, age 77, of Edwardsville, died at 3:27 a.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
He was born on Nov. 5, 1926, in Alton, the son of the late Oscar and Roberta Wieland Schmidt.
He married
Betty Choate on Nov. 5, 1948, at Eden Church in Edwardsville. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons: Randy Schmidt and wife, Angela of Miami, Fla., and C. William Schmidt and wife, Laura and Troy Schmidt, all of Edwardsville; and eight grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Faye Schwartz.
Mr. Schmidt was president of Clover Leaf Bank and Schmidt-Phillipe and Associates in Edwardsville, as well as owned and operated Chuck Schmidt Real Estate. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. His memberships included the serving on the Board at Elmhurst College, president of St. Louis District Golf Association, serving on the City Zoning Board, Eden United Church of Christ where he was president of the church council, served on the SIUE Foundation Board and was a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Edwardsville Rotary Club. He also worked with Cub Scouts at Eden Church.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, at Weber Funeral Home in Edwardsville.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Coode officiating.
Interment will be at Forever Valley View cemetery in Edwardsville.

Eva Grabin Siegel, age 85, of Maryville, died at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, June 18, 2004, at her residence.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1919, in Strawn, Texas, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Poydack Grabin.
She married
Stephen Siegel on July 3, 1948. He survives.
Also surviving is a daughter: Cheryl Grieves and husband, Jack of Edwardsville; a son: Stephen Siegel and wife, Carla of Fairview Heights; two grandchildren: Jason and Casey Grieves, both of Edwardsville; a brother: Charles Grabin and wife, Leona of St. Louis; and two sisters: Helen Yasevich and Lillian Riley, both of St. Louis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Samual and Michael Grabin.
Mrs. Siegel was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 21, at Irwin Chapel of Glen Carbon.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Janet James Whitlow, age 66, of Caseyville, died at 12:24 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

Gladys Schiefer Willmann, age 93, of St. Jacob, died at 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville.
Visitation was conducted on Sunday, June 20, and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday, June 21, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 21, at the funeral home with Fr. James Deiters, pastor of St. Clare Catholic Church of O'Fallon, officiating.
Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic cemetery in Highland.
