Raymond O. Gillette
Raymond O. Gillette, 71, Roseville, passed away at at 6 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 1998, at his home.
Born December 29, 1926, in Monmouth to Bernard and Cecil Orndoff Gillette, he married
Frances Spicer on April 5, 1945, in Monmouth. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Michael (Coralis) Gillette of Gerlaw, George (Molly) Gillette of Little York and Dan (Brandy) Gillette of Galesburg; three daughters Mrs. Mike (Kathy) Malone of Galesburg, Carol Gillette of Roseville and Mrs. Don (Mary) Zellmer of Brinnon, WA; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Barron of Monmouth; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Helen Gillette; and two brothers and one sister.
A construction worker, he was a member of Construction Workers Local 538. He and his son, Dan, owned and operated the Trading Post north of Monmouth from 1978 until 1981.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 17, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel in Monmouth with the Rev. John Irwin officiating. Burial will be in Monmouth cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Doris A. Davis
Doris A. Davis, 92, of Roseville died at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 1998, at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home.
Born April 22, 1906, in Wilmington, Ohio, to John R. and Lucy D. Stackhouse Davis, she married
Harold S. Davis on Sept. 18, 1926, in Ohio. He died in 1977.
One grandson, three sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Harold Jr. of Sheboygan, WI; one daughter, Jane Adkisson of Roseville; three sisters, Lois Howe of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Hackney of Wilmington and Jean Hendrickson of Cape Coral, FL.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She worked in the jewelry business and worked for Ohio State University. She later worked for the University of Illinois, where she was an admission counselor for the physics department.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Roseville cemetery with the Rev. James Oliver officiating. Memorials may be made to LaMoine Christian Nursing Home.
Thomas Melvin Milward
Thomas Melvin Milward, age 94, of 801 West Martin Street, Abingdon, died at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 1998 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born August 24, 1904 in Warren County, Illinois, the son of Frank S. and Phoebe Berdella 'Della' Armstrong Milward.
He married
Lucile Rhykerd on June 6, 1927 in Cameron, Illinois. She died December 2, 1956. He married
Iola Moore in November of 1957. She preceded him in death in 1958. His third marriage was to Leona Marshall in November 1960 at Abingdon. She died in 1985.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Art (Norma) Wolford, Abingdon; and two grandsons, John and Mark Wolford and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
He was in partnership with his father in the general store in Cameron, Illinois. He was later a welder at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg for 25 years. He had lived in Cameron and Abingdon areas most of his life. He attended Monmouth High School. He was a member of Abingdon Christian Church where he was a very active member.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with Reverend Mark S. Wolford officiating. Burial was in the East Linwood cemetery in Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Christian Church or Abingdon United Methodist Church.
William F. 'Sonny' Macklin 02/10/00
William F. 'Sonny' Macklin, 63, of Montclair, Va., formerly of Macomb, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Montclair.
He was born Jan. 18, 1937, in Macomb to Alex F. and Elizabeth Sparks Macklin.
He is survived by his mother of Macomb; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann McNeal of Pueblo, Colo., and Mary Margaret Jones of Macomb; his wife, Bonnie; and one daughter, Andrea Roscoe of Stafford, Va.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Macklin graduated from Western High School and WIU. He spent eight years in the Air Force and retired from the Department of Labor in Washington, D.C.
He was a member of the Springfield, Va., Elks Lodge 176; Woodbridge, Va., American Legion Post 2355; and Masonic Lodge 310 in Occoquan, Va.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Macomb, with Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Betty J. Blair
Betty J. Blair, age 76, of 300 North Jefferson Street, Abingdon, Illinois, passed away at 8:50 a.m.Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born July 1923 in Roseville, Illinois, the daughter of Robert M. and Mildred Parsons Bunch. She married
Samuel Blair on Oct. 15, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1970.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Betty Jean) Wiley, Abingdon; two brothers, Robert E. Bunch, Colchester, Illinois; and Charles L. Bunch, Blandinsville, Illinois.; one sister, Louise Sparrow, York, Penn.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
She was a homemaker.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Memorial Park cemetery, Galesburg, with Reverend Thomas Heather officiating.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home, Abingdon Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Russell l. Phillips
Russell L. Phillips, age 80, of Marietta, passed away at 9:04 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2000 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born May 24, 1919, in Vermont, Illinois, the son of Asa and Mollie Anno Phillips.
He married
Opal M. McCormick on Nov. 24, 1951, in Quincy.
Surviving are one son, John N. Phillips, Prairie City; two daughters, Marjorie Warner, Abingdon, and Molly Van Pelt, Aurora; one sister, Lucille Kingery, Astoria; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and five sisters.
He retired from Butler Manufacturing, Galesburg, after 29 years.
He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of T. J. Pickett Lodge 307, Bushnell.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell with the Rev. John Carlson officiating.
Burial was in the Vermont cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Bushnell Rescue Squad.
Wayne B. Perrine
A memorial service for Wayne B. Perrine, 85, formerly of Bushnell and Raritan, was held Monday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. in the Bushnell Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Robert Holler officiated.
Private burial of ashes will be held in Roseville cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Perrine passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at noon in the home of a daughter in Charlotte, NC. Cremation was accorded. Memorials may be left to the Bushnell Rescue Squad.
A son of Clarence E. and Cecile Burke Perrine, he was born Jan. 21, 1915 in Raritan. He married
Evelyn Switzer, Jan. 8, 1939, in Roseville, who died on March 9, 1972. He later married
Alma King, June 22, 1973, in Bushnell, who passed away, Nov. 22, 1977.
His parents, two brothers and three sisters also preceded him death.
He leaves: a son, Van Perrine in Chicago; a daughter, Sue Smith of Charlotte, two step-daughters, Debora Kovac in Bushnell and Vicki Smith of Osterville, MA; a brother, Lawrence Perrine, Casa Grande, AZ; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Perrine was a Navy veteran of WWII as a medic, and a member of Bushnell Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1422, for over 50 years, and the Macomb American Post. He owned and operated a general store in Raritan for many years, moving to Bushnell in 1955. There, he purchased Brewbaker-Ewan Agency until Jan. 1980. The company then merged with Wolf-Brown to become Wolf-Brown-Perrine Agency.
He was a member of the Bushnell Fire Department for 12 years and a trustee since 1968. He was also a member of: T.J. Pickett Masonic Lodge, #308, in Bushnell for more than 30 years; Mohammed Temple Shrine in Peoria; LaMoine Valley Shrine Club; and the Scottish Rite Bodies.
Mr. Perrine was also a member of: Bushnell Rotary Club for 37 years; Bushnell Golf Course since 1955; The Bushnell International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge; and attended the Bushnell Presbyterian Church, where he also served in several official capacities.
Estin Allen
Graveside services were held Saturday, January 22, at 1 p.m., in Roseville Memorial Park cemetery, for Estin Allen, 88, with Rev. Gina Sheridan, pastor of the Roseville and Swan Creek United Methodist churches officiating.
Mr. Allen passed away Thursday, January 20, 2000, at 12:25 a.m. in Avon Nursing Home. Memorials may be made to the nursing home. Corman Memorial Home, Roseville, was in charge of arrangements.
A son of Charles and Charlotte Muntz Allen, he was born July 1, 1911, in Mt. Sterling, IA. He married
Eva M.Goudie, who survives.
He also leaves: two daughters-in-law, Ramona Allen and Mildred Allen, both of Roseville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
His parents, two sons, two brothers and a granddaughter preceded him in death.
Mr. Allen and his wife have been Roseville area residents since 1935, where they farmed. He was also engaged in carpentry.
