John S. Galvin of Lombard for 36 years
Funeral services for John S. Galvin will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, at Knollcrest Funeral Home (Alex Carbonara Funeral Director), 1500 S. Meyers Road (two blocks south of Roosevelt Road), Lombard, and continue with a 10 a.m. Mass at Christ the King Church.
Born in Peoria on March 20, 1929, he passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital on Saturday Feb. 27, 1999. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Aurora.
Mr. Galvin had served as a captain in the Army Air Corps of Engineers. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1953. Mr. Galvin had worked as a civil engineer for Harry Lochner and Company in Chicago and retired in 1994 from the Village of Lombard as a civil engineer in the Public Works Department.
He was the beloved husband of Stephanie (nee Sucik); loving father of Marianne (Matthew) Lanenga and Catherine Galvin; beloved son of the late Deva and Emmet Galvin; fond grandfather of Amy; dear brother Jay (Mary) Galvin, Dorothy (Charles) Powers, and the late William and Robert Galvin, Mario Sutorius and Deva (James) Swords; and fond uncle and friend of many.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Bodo Gustav Gebauer of Algonquin
A funeral service for Bodo Gustav Gebauer, 70, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Algonquin.
Born July 7, 1928, in Leipzig, Germany, he died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at home. Private burial will be in Algonquin Cemetery.
Mr. Gebauer was employed as a chemist with GTE in Northlake and Genoa for 28 years. He was a a World War II veteran, educated at the University of Zurich and completed post graduate studies at Northwestern University in Evanston. He graduated after 10 years of attendance from the Thomasschule zu Leipzig where he was a member of the prestigious St. Thomas Boys Choir in Leipzig, Germany. For his contributions to science and electronic progress, he received four patent awards. He was also a member of the Elgin Turners.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Keeley; children, Glen of Elkhart, Texas and Wendy (Roger) Quinlan of Algonquin; sister, Rosemarie (Helmut) Ehrhardt of Leipzig, Germany; grandchildren, Christopher, Kyle and Caleb Gebauer, and Riley, Ryne and Keeley Quinlan; and nieces and nephews, Petra (Andreas) Vollmar, Ute Pleschke and Frank Ehrhardt.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel, Algonquin, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday, at the church.

Anthony Gurgiolo of McHenry
Funeral Mass for Anthony Gurgiolo, 80, was celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Church of St. Mary, 1401 N. Richmond Road, McHenry.
Born Sept. 18, 1918, in San Jose, Calif., to Francisco and Rosa Gurgiolo (nee Visconti), he died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at his home. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
When he was a child, Mr. Gurgiolo moved with his parents to Trabia, Sicily, and was raised there. In 1934, he returned to the United States, and resided in Pittsburgh, where he married Mary Marsella on June 20, 1940. They moved to Chicago in 1941, where he owned a barber shop at Pulaski and Armitage from 1947 to 1987. In 1987, he and his wife moved to McHenry.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary; daughter, Marlene Gurgiolo of Crystal Lake; son, Anthony (Donna Marie) Gurgiolo of Rolling Meadows; six grandchildren, Monica Barba, Donnalyn Gurgiolo, Adam Gurgiolo, Thomas Maycock Jr., Jason Maycock and Anthony Maycock; great-grandson, Nicholas Maycock; sisters, Angeline and Engina Piazza, both of Italy; and two brothers, Nick Gurgiolo of Pittsburgh and Antonio Gurgiolo of Italy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at George R. Justen and Son Funeral Home, 3519 W. Elm St., McHenry.

Joseph E. Hewitt of Batavia
Funeral services for Joseph E. Hewitt, 68, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Yurs-Peterson Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia.
The Rev. Donald Moll will officiate.
Born May 6, 1930, in southern Illinois, to William and Ethel Hewitt, he died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva. Interment will be in Marissa Cemetery, Marissa, Ill., where graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Joseph worked as an air traffic controller for 30 years, then returned to work for an additional 10 years for Itasca Construction Company. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Aurora Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia; daughter, Kelly (Garry) Dakan of Batavia; son, Robin Hewitt of Batavia; and grandchildren, Michael and Ashlee Dakan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeffrey Hewitt, on March 29, 1986.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of services Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Virginia M. Johnson (nee Miller), 74, of Streamwood, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999. Arrangements are being made by Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, (847) 741-8800.

Birute J. Kohl a 32-year resident of Glen Ellyn
Prayers for Birute J. Kohl (nee Jockus), 55, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Road (one block east of Naperville Road), Wheaton, with a 10 a.m. Mass at St. James the Apostle Church.
Born March 22, 1943, in Darbenai, District of Kretinga, Lithuania, she died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at her home, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Burial will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Ostego, Mich.
Mrs. Kohl was raised in Ostego, Mich.
She was a sales associate for Carson, Pirie, Scott & Company at Yorktown Mall in Lombard until her retirement in 1998.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph; daughter, Julie (Kerry) Petertil of Oak Park; granddaughter, Charlotte Petertil; twin sister, Johanna (James) Sponable of Edenton, N. C.; brother, Konrad (Linda) Jockus of Kalamazoo, Mich.; niece, Konny; and nephew, Jeremy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Jockus.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

William G. McConnaughay of Geneva
Services for William G. McConnaughay, 70, will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St., Geneva, and continue with Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva.
Born Oct. 30, 1928, in Mount Vernon, Ill., to James and Florence (nee Bowling) McConnaughay, he passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Geneva, following the Mass.
Mr. McConnaughay was the owner of McConnaughay Propertiesof Geneva and was also involved in other family businesses, including Geneva Bottling Works and Geneva Home Works. An Army veteran, he had served in the Korean War.
William was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, who will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary McConnaughay (nee Boggiano); son, John (Karen) McConnaughay of St. Charles; daughters, Catherine (Glenn) Cushing of Batavia, Janet (Kenneth) Smudde of Batavia and Margaret Milnamow of Elburn; grandchildren, Christopher, Kate, Courtney, Garrett, Sean, Madeline and Catherine; brothers, James (Margaret) McConnaughay of Florida, Terry (Rocadella) McConnaughay of Geneva, Glenn (Mary) McConnaughay of Florida, Paul (Lois) McConnaughay of Florida and Ron (Anne) McConnaughay of Elburn; sisters, IsabelleFisher of Florida and Norma (Elliott) Lundberg of Batavia; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Edith McConnaughay; brother-in-law, Kenneth Fisher; and niece, Linda Dimmick.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Dorothy K. Mulley of Schaumburg
Funeral Mass for Dorothy K. Mulley, 91, formerly of Park Ridge, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. James Church.
Born Jan. 12, 1918, in Chicago, she died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove.
Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery.
Mrs. Mulley had worked for more than 25 years for Thomas International Organ Company in Chicago.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia A. (Raymond) Mrazek; son, Sidney L. (Bernadette) Mulley; grandchildren, Deborah (Michael) Niquette, Steven R., Michael J. (Rebekah) Mrazek and Teresa and Kevin Mulley; great-grandchild, Jeffrey Niquette; brother, George (Alice) Bukowski; and sister, Ruth Lobes.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard (Helen), Arthur (Lil) and Lawrence; and sister, Eileen (Joseph) Worley.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows.

Mildred L. Persson
Memorial services for Mildred L. Persson (nee Gluth), 82, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Lutheran Home, 800 W. Oakton St., Arlington Heights.
Born Feb. 4, 1917, in Clintonville, Wis., she died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at the Lutheran Home.
Mrs. Persson was a longtime resident of Evergreen Park.
She is survived by her son, Philip Persson of Palatine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton Persson; parents, Albert and Bertha (nee Heling) Gluth; and brother, George Gluth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lutheran Home.

John V. Petkus of St. Charles
Funeral Mass for John V. Petkus, 85, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 E. Main St., St. Charles, with Monsignor Robert B. Hoffmann officiating.
Born Nov. 10, 1913, in Chicago, he died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Petkus was a member of St. John Neumann Church and St. Charles American Legion #342. He was also a well-known land developer in St. Charles for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne; daughter, Barbara Petkus of St. Charles; nephews, Albert Petkus of Burr Ridge and Robert Petkus of Naperville; and sister-in-law, Julia Petkus of Naperville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Barbara Petkus, and brother, Albert Petkus.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8p.m. today, with a liturgical wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles.

Elaine Barbiere Pierce of Mount Prospect
Prayers for Elaine Barbiere Pierce, 83, will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, at Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Road, Mount Prospect, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Alphonsus Church, Prospect Heights.
Born July 25, 1915, in Weymouth, Mass., she died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at The Moorings of Arlington Heights. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.
Mrs. Pierce was employed as a secretary.
She was the wife of the late Robert T. Pierce; aunt of Thomas, Philip J. (Belinda) and Gerard (Jeanne) Wehrheim, Pamela W. (Daniel) Detzner, Patricia (Joseph) Martin and Wayne (Jackie) and Ralph (the late Julia) Tite; aunt of many grandnieces and grandnephews; and sister of the late Caroline Tite, Louis, Daniel and Ralph (Helen) Barbiere and Phyllis Wehrheim.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
