George Francis Mann of Naperville
Services for George Francis Mann, 65, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 117 W. Van Buren, Naperville.
Born May 16, 1933, in Fort Worth,Texas, he died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Edward Hospital, Naperville. Interment will be in Naperville Cemetery.
Mr. Mann had moved to Naperville from Arlington Heights in 1973. He received his bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Texas in Austin. An independent insurance agent since 1976, Mr. Mann owned and operated the G. F. Mann Insurance Agency in Naperville since 1976 and served on several insurance advisory boards during his career. He was a life member of the Texas Ex-Students and a member of the First Christian Church of Naperville, and was active with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Doniece Joystelle Mann (nee Thomas) of Naperville; sons, George (Julie) Mann III of Naperville, Jack (Heather) Mann of Aurora and Judson Mann of Naperville; daughter, Judy (David) Searles of Tampa, Fla.; and grandchildren, George F.
Mann IV, Jack T. Mann Jr. and Hayley E. Mann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George F. and Rozelle (nee Peavy) Mann.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Margaret Helen Newgard of Mount Prospect for 50 years
Visitation will be from Margaret Helen Newgard (nee Byrne), 74, will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights.
Born May 29, 1924, in Glendale, Calif., she died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at her home. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Mrs. Newgard, a homemaker,was a founding member of Chapter JM of P. E. O. Sisterhood and a former member of the Mount Prospect Women's Club.
She was an active volunteer for numerous Scout organizations and a longtime member of St. Mark Lutheran Church.
Shewas the loving wife of the late J. Robert Newgard, whom she had married Nov. 29, 1942, in Glendale, Calif.; dearest mother of Richard Newgard of Arlington Heights, Karen (the late Michael) Noland of Antioch and James (Anita) Newgard of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and dear grandmother of Sean Noland and Holly and Will Newgard.
Memorial contributions maybe made to A. L. S. Foundation or to St. Mark Lutheran Church, co Glueckert Funeral Home (address listed above).

John V. Petkus of St. Charles
Funeral Mass for John V. Petkus, 85, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 E. Main St., St. Charles, with Monsignor Robert B. Hoffmann officiating.
Born Nov. 10, 1913, in Chicago, he died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Petkus was a member of St. John Neumann Church and St. Charles American Legion #342. He was also a well-known land developer in St. Charles for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne; daughter, Barbara Petkus of St. Charles; nephews, Albert Petkus of Burr Ridge and Robert Petkus of Naperville; and sister-in-law, Julia Petkus of Naperville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Barbara Petkus, and brother, Albert Petkus.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles.

Louis Pintacura of Prospect Heights
Services for Louis Pintacura, 88, will begin with prayers at 9:30 a.m. Monday, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, and continue with Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, 411 N. Wheeling Road, Prospect Heights.
Born Jan. 15, 1911, in Chicago, he died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mr. Pintacura was a member of VFW Post 981 and the Arlington Heights Merle Guild American Legion Post 280.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Vivian J. Pintacura (nee Stocco), whom he married July 31, 1947; children, Sam (Claire) Pintacura of Crystal Lake and Angie (Greg) Hill ofLake Zurich; and grandchildren, Carissa and Kevin.

Peter Rapinchuk of Des Plaines
Services for Peter Rapinchuk, 70, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines.
Born Dec. 25, 1928, in Chicago, he died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Holy Family Medical Center. Burial will be in Elmwood Park Cemetery.
A resident of Des Plaines since 1959, he was a field rep for 32 years at International Harvester in Chicago.
He was the husband of 48 years of Kathryn (nee Pikulin); father of Peter D. (Laurie) Rapinchuk of Tinley Park, Tom (Caren) Rapinchuk of Wadsworth, Tim (Susan) Rapinchuk of Bartlett and June (Brian) Leszczynski of Des Plaines; brother of John (Betty) Rapinchuk of LaGrange, Daniel (Zoia) Rapinchuk of Arizona, Helen (Al) Walton of Bolingbrook, and the late Edward Rapinchuk and Anna Grillo; and grandfather of Bethany and Lindsey Rapinchuk.

Robert C. Richardson of Schaumburg and Florida
Services for Robert C. Richardson, 80, a resident of Schaumburg and Brooksville (High Point), Fla., will begin with prayers at 9 a.m. Tuesday, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Road, Schaumburg, and continue with Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Marcelline Church.
Born Dec. 30, 1918, in Chicago, he died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at home. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
Mr. Richardson had retired after 41 years with Illinois Bell Telephone where he had worked as a district manager.
He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the St. Marcelline Seniors and the High Point Golf Association.
He was the beloved husband of Grace Mangan Richardson and the late Laurette Richardson (nee Keshen); loving fatherof Robert C. (Beth) Richardson, Gerald (Jean) Richardson, Thomas (Carole) Richardson, Kathleen (David) Keenan, Joyce Ann (George) Shlyapin and the late Lynn Richardson; dear stepfather of Karen (Michael) Zivic and Kenneth (Diane)Mangan; and proud grandfather of 16.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

Roberto G. Rizo of Batavia
A Mass for Roberto G. Rizo, 41, formerly of Chicago, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church.
Born Jan. 15, 1958, he died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at his home. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Rizo was employed for 15 years as an engineer for Lucent Technologies, and was a member of HISPA.
He was the father of Roberto and Sergio of Batavia, and brother of Ismael Rizo, Lupe (Petrita) Rizo, Ted (Lynn) Rizo, Pedro (Rose) Rizo, Maria (Darryl) Ranieri and the late Louis (Delia).

The Rev. Dr. Ross P. Scherer of Arlington Heights
Funeral services for the Rev. Dr. Ross P. Scherer will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1234 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60005.
Born March 30, 1922, in Fort Wayne, Ind., he died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare Center. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The Rev. Dr. Ross P. Scherer combined a lifelong passion for current events with a distinguished career as an educator of sociology and the pursuit of religious ecumenism. A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., he graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1943. He received a master's degree in social service administration in 1947 and a Ph. D. in sociology in 1963 from the University of Chicago. Dr. Scherer was an ordained Lutheran minister and professor emeritus of Loyola University. From 1950 until 1963, he taught sociology and social work at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind. He was appointed the first director of research operations for the National Council of Churches of Christ in New York, a position he held from 1963 to 1966.
Dr. Scherer joined the sociology department of Loyola University in 1966, and taught from 1966 to 1990. He had served as its chairman from 1967 to 1969, and as graduate program director from 1969 to 1971 and from 1979 to 1982. His career in sociology focused on complex organizations, religous organizations, health care, work and occupations, and community. Among sociologists, he is best known for his book, `American Denominational Organization,' (William Carey Library, 1980), a comprehensive study of the dominant organizational form of religion in America.
He was a very active member in both the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion and the Religious Research Association, of which he was president from 1975 to 1977. From 1966 to 1984, he was also closely associated with the Review of Religious Research, of which he served as managing, contributing and associate editor. His interest in his field continued into his retirement. `The last time I talked to him on the phone, he was so excited to tell me all about his newest project: preparing a paper he was to give at the meeting of the Association of Sociology of Religion later this year,' commented his son, Tom of Oregon.
A resident of Arlington Heights for the past 32 years, Dr. Scherer had formerly been a very active member of Faith Lutheran Congregation, and since 1988, of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris E. Scherer (nee Hoffmeier); children, Rebecca (Marty) Koppel, Thomas (Silvia) Scherer and Mary (Meinrad) Scherer-Emunds; grandchildren, Jennif

Arthur J. Smith of Hoffman Estates
Services for Arthur J. Smith, 71, will begin with prayers at9:30 a.m. Monday, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Road, Schaumburg, and continue with Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Hoffman Estates.
Born Sept. 7, 1927, in Central Falls, R. I., he died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, in Elk Grove Village. Burial will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Smith (nee Rourke); sons, Arthur J. (Debra) Smith III of Elk Grove Village, John Paul (Dawne) Smith of Marengo, Gregory Smith of Hoffman Estates and Timothy Michael Smith of Algonquin; daughters, Margaret Mary (Jeff) Mitchell of Algonquin, Mary Kathryn (James) Mateyack of Naperville and Nannette Marie Smith of Chicago; and grandchildren, Allison, Jillian, Megan and Kaitlin Smith, Jake Mitchell, Jenna and Anna Mateyack, and Jonathan, Erinand Justin Smith.

Thomas F. Svete of Waukegan for 46 years
Funeral services for Thomas F. Svete, 71, will be heldat 9:30 a.m. Monday, at Salata Gurnee Funeral Home, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, with the Rev. Gehl Devore officiating.
Born Dec. 10, 1927, in North Chicago, he passed away suddenly Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Victory Memorial Hospital.
Interment will follow in Northshore Garden of Memories.
An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Svete was stationed in both Austria and Germany. He worked for Abbott Laboratories for 47 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Abbott Retiree Men's CLub, Waukegan Moose Lodge #706 and K. S. K. J. St. Joseph Lodge #53.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Michael (Linda) Svete; grandson, Jeffrey Svete; brothers, Joseph Svete of Park City and Stanley (Betty) Svete of Glendale, Ariz.; sister, Mary Szurovecz of Kenosha, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
Hewas preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Svete (nee Leskovec); and brother, Felix Svete.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
