Howard A. DeVrieze, 78 of Rock Island died April 30, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 1p.m. Monday, May 3, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 p.m. with an Elks memorial service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at National cemetery with military honors conducted by the Moline VFW. Memorials may be made to American Diabetic Association or American Cancer Society. Howard was born April 30, 1926 in Rock Island to Frank and Helen Lang DeVrieze. He married
Katherine Myers on November 29, 1947 in Rock Island. Howard was employed for 21 ½ years at John Deere Harvester Works, Moline as an advanced engineering analyst. He retired on July 31, 1985. Prior to his work at John Deere he was a Journeyman bricklayer for area contractors. Howard was a WWII Navy veteran where he served on the USS Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Moline VFW and Rock Island Lodge #980 BPOE and was Past Exalted Ruler of the Moline Lodge # 556. Howard especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed watching sports and playing cards. The family of Mr. DeVrieze would like to give a special thank you to Uncle Ron, Corina and Richard and Stephanie Anderson.

Roy R. Groman, age 65 of Orion died April 30, 2004 at Trinity East Medical Center, Moline. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 4th at Western Township cemetery, Orion. Roy was born on May 28, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa the son of Arnold Walter and Josephine Jean Mokosyeki Groman. Roy was employed at Grisham’s Industry in Davenport. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Geneseo and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed country dancing, music, gardening, and his two dogs. Survivors include loving spouse, Ethel Roberts of Orion and his brother, Guy of Bettendorf, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Jeff Groman.

Donald L. Brown, 73 of Milan went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2004 at Illini Hospital, Silvis. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at National cemetery, Rock Island with military honors conducted by Milan American Legion Post 569 and Rock Island VFW Post # 1303. Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established. Donald was born June 28, 1930 in Moline to Floyd Lester and Opal I. Steeples Brown. He married
Billie Jean “Bettie” Cowan on October 28, 1957 in Rock Island. Donald was employed for 33 years as a Warehouse Man for John Deere Plow Planter, Moline. Donald served four years each in the U.S. Army, U.S. Marines and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a life time member of the Milan American Legion Post # 569 where he served as chaplain, past commander, and performed over a 1000 funerals with the honor guard. He was also a member of the Rock Island VFW Post # 1303 and UAW Local 434 in East Moline where he was a former union steward. Donald was in charge of the food booths for the Milan Indian Summer Festival for 10 years.

Clyde Lear on March 27, 1926 in Rushville, IL. He preceded her in death in 1978. Bessie was a member of First Baptist Church, Moline where she was a Sunday school teacher for 40 plus years. In 1980 she was awarded the First American Baptist Woman of the Year award. She was active in the McKinley Grade School PTA, Eastern Star, and Kings Daughters. She was a loving and devoted mother. The family of Mrs. Lear would like to give a special thanks to the nursing staff at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island and Oak Glen Home.

Sandra was born October 29, 1941 in Moline to James B. and M. Ruth Chase Swanson. She graduated from Moline Senior High and the University of Iowa School of Journalism. She married
Erwin Mohr on October 12, 1963 at the Augustana College Chapel in Rock Island. Sandra worked in the clerical department for the Q.C. Chamber of Commerce. She later was employed as a program analyst for the Q.C. Associated Employers. Sandra was past co-president with her husband for the Moline Little League and Moline High School Booster Club. She was also former president of Grant School PTA. She was a member of her high school reunion committee. Sandra was always known for helping others when the need arose. Her family, especially her grandchildren were the joy of her life.

Schaeffer was born May 30, 1926 in Neilsville, MN the daughter of Earl and Clara Mjolsness Schaeffer. She married
Samuel Ferreri on December 31, 1943 in East Moline, IL. He preceded her in death in 1986. Lois was employed as a cosmetologist. She was also employed at Desaulniers in Moline. In 1988, she retired after 23 years from John Deere DSC, Moline. Lois was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion, where she was a Friendly Stiticher of the church. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great granddaughters.
