Bonnie Hutchinson, 68, of East Moline, died Tuesday July 6, 2004 at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 9, 2004 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hampton, IL. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline, with a rosary recited at 5:00 pm. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Bonnie was born on April 20, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio the daughter of Delmar and “Rusty” Hamner. She married
Eugene Hutchinson on December 1, 1956 in Henderson, KY. Bonnie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hampton. She worked as a seamstress and later as a secretary.. She also worked part time at IEANEA in Moline. She was the head of Jr. and Sr. Boys Baseball League of East Moline. She was very involved with her kid’s and grandkid’s activities, such as sports and educational teaching. She loved to take pictures of her family and videotaped all special events, talent shows and vacations. Bonnie always made Christmas Eve dinner. She liked antiques shopping, ceramic painting and studying the Bible, following the Lord and attending church when she could.

Eula taught in a country school in Keota, Iowa and later was employed at the former New York Store and Carlson Brothers in Moline. She was Past-President of the Moline Auxiliary of F.O.E. Aerie #1112, a 50 year member of Moline Chapter #258 O.E.S.; she was active in Plymouth Congregational Church and was presently a member of Hope United Church of Christ. She was also a lifetime member of Oakwood Country Club. Survivors include her daughter and spouse Mary Jo and David Abrahamson of Clayton, MO; her son and spouse Paul and Joyce Aller of Moline; her step-sons and spouses Ronald and Kay Schriefer of Moline and Boyd and Cathy Schriefer, Jr. of Lexington, KY; 6 grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren. Leroy Stoneking on August 27, 1937 in Davenport. Evelyn was employed by of Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo for 10 years, last working in 1966. She was a member of First Evangelical Free Church in Moline since 1945 where she served as deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and also as a leader in the Children’s Church. After she and her husband retired, she ministered to a number of Health Care Homes presenting a Christian religious program. She also worked for 15 years in the AWANA program for the Geneseo Free Church. Evelyn had a compassionate heart for her grandchildren and all little children. She was a special lady not only to our family, but many many people. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Leroy; her daughter and spouse Ivene and David Lindblade of Naperville, IL; her son and spouse Dr. Jerry and Johanna Stoneking of Seminole, FL; 5 grandchildren and spouses Kimberly and Paul Stevenson, Dr. Bradley and Katharine Stoneking, Jeffery Lindblade, Dr. Christopher and Rebecca Lindblade and Stefanie Stoneking; 5 great-grandchildren – Caleb Stevenson, Nathanael Stevenson, Isabelle Lindblade, Benjamin Stoneking, and William Stoneking.

He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline. Survivors include his wife Judy, son and spouse Gary and Wanda of Chicago, James “Jim” of Aledo and Steven of Memphis, TN. and extended family Greg, Delma, Kyrom and Kirk Kooken of Flower Mound, TX. Wilma Marie Rueter, age 84 of Port Byron, IL died June 30, 2004 in Moline. There will be no visitation or funeral services. Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. is assisting the family. Wilma was born on August 12, 1919 in Quincy, IL the daughter of William and Edna Biebigheuser Rueter. Wilma was earlier employed by L.C. Mercantile Company and later as a secretary/book-keeper at Quincy Supply Company. She was a member of the Quincy Business Women’s Club, the Order of Eastern Star Alpha Chapter #109 and the Lutheran Memorial Church of Quincy. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, cards, board games and reading. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Jean Laughead of Port Byron and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Donald, Maurice and Kenneth. Wilma was loved by all her friends and family, and will be remembered as a woman who loved her family and always put their interests first. Her family would like to thank the staff of Pathway Hospice for their kindness and loving care.

He was a very active member in his church, the former Aldersgate Methodist in Moline. He was a member of the UAW Retirees and enjoyed gardening with his wife. Arthur was a very easy going, peaceful person and accepted what came his way in life. Survivors include his daughter Mary Mitchell, 2 sons and their spouses, Robert and Linda Talley and Raymon and Robin Talley; grandchildren Lisa, Laura, Sara Ellen, and DeEtte Talley and Tom and Bill Dickerson; nephew and spouse Bob and Sharon Bloomberg, Wayne and Carol Youngberg, Arlyn and Rita Youngberg and niece and spouse Bonnie and Chet Wheeler; 2 sisters Ruby Maes and Marie Goembel. Clem Van Acker on March 2, 1935 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death in 1999. Marie was employed as a housekeeper at the former Moline Lutheran Hospital. Marie was a member of Calvary Lurtheran Church in Moline. She loved word puzzles, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, and cooking.

Rev. George H. Schermer, age 87, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on June 28, 2004 from complications of cancer. Services will be held at First Covenant Church, Moline, IL, on Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 11:00 AM with visitation preceding beginning at 9:30 AM at the church. Graveside services will be at 2:30 PM at Clover Chapel cemetery, Woodhull, IL. Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd. will be in charge of arrangements. Rev. Schermer was the son of Henry and Ellen Schermer of Crookston, MN. He graduated from North Park College and Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL in 1941 and was ordained into the ministry in 1944. He earned his BA degree in Christian Education from Macalester College, St. Paul, MN, in 1962. His first pastorate was at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Kewanee, IL where he met and then married
Maxine A. Nelson. Other Covenant Churches he served include New London, MN; Maywood near Foley, MN; Stromsburg, NE; Lanyon, IA; Ft. Dodge, IA; Aurora, NE; and Omaha, NE. He served as Youth Secretary for the Northwest (MN) Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church and as Assistant Youth Secretary for the denomination's Department of Christian Education, Chicago. Survivors include his wife, Maxine; two sons, Douglas (Shirley) of Wayland, IA; and Timothy (Martha) of Bettendorf, IA; one daughter, Kristine (Bruce) Metcalf of Hilmar, CA; eight grandchildren, Jason, Gavin, Garrick, Ian, and Ross Schermer, and Amy, Jeff, and Lisa Metcalf, and two great-grandchildren. The family would like to express its appreciation to the Oncology staff at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, for their care, concern, and thoughtfulness. Degree in Chemistry from the Unviersity of Maryland, a M.S. Degree in Physics from John Hopkins and he also graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport. He moved to the Quad-Cities in 1969. Wilbur was in the U.S Signal Corp. during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany where he served for 3 years. He also did research work. Survivors include his sister Dorothy Maston of Erlanger, KY and his brother Robert Perdew of Maryland.

Oscar William Ellis, Bettendorf, died at home on June 26th after a lengthy battle with a brain tumor. He was 55. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30th at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 417 Main Street, Davenport. Oscar Ellis will be cremated according to his wishes. Memorials may be made in memory of Oscar W. Ellis to the Putnam Museum IMAX Theatre, 1717 West 12th Street, Davenport, IA 52803. Ellis was President and CEO of RiverStone Group, Inc., formerly Moline Consumers Company. After graduating summa cum laude from the University of Arizona with a degree in mining engineering, Ellis received a Masters of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley. Anne K. Harvey. The couple had two daughters, Tealia and Crystal. In 1999 he married
Anne Colville of West Des Moines, Iowa. After Berkeley, Ellis returned to the Quad Cities to join his family's aggregate business. He managed several mining interests in Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri before becoming President in 1987. A recognized leader and innovator in the aggregate industry, Ellis led RiverStone Group through the largest expansion of operations in company history. Ellis served on the board of directors of the National Stone Sand and Gravel Association, the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers, and the Iowa Limestone Producers Association. Dedicated to community service, he also served on the boards of the Niabi Zoological Society, the Putnam Museum, and River Action Inc. He was a past member of the advisory board for Boys & Girls Club of the Mississippi Valley. Oscar Ellis was an avid outdoorsman - a hunter, angler, and diver whose lifelong commitment to conservation was echoed in his career and his hobbies. A serious and accomplished photographer, Ellis found beauty in the natural world and enthusiastically recorded it with his camera. He also appreciated simple pursuits such as walking in the woods on his farm in Milan, Illinois. Most important to him was being a caring husband, father, and friend. Oscar Ellis is survived by his wife Anne Colville, his daughters Tealia Ellis Ritter and her husband David Ritter, and Crystal Ellis, his parents Jim and Wanda Ellis, his stepchildren Drew and Lucy Colville, his brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews.

Helen Margaret Waldorf on December 22, 1945 in Mendota, IL. She died September 29, 2003. Mr. McMinn is survived by two children: a daughter, Joyce Strach and husband Mitch of East Moline, IL; and a son, Tom McMinn and wife Christie of Mattoon, IL. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Debbie Caulk and husband Ken of Lake In the Hills, IL; Lisa Tucker and husband Dan of Davenport, IA; Katie Gordon and husband Jason, and Jonathan McMinn all of Mattoon; and 6 great-grandchildren: Amy & Drew Caulk. Julia & Benjamin Nichols, Abbie Gordon and Liam Tucker. He was preceded in death by his wife, seven brothers and nine sisters. Ralph graduated from Carbondale High School. He graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in the College of Education and Human Services in 1929. He received a Master of Arts in Latin from the University of Illinois in 1935. He was a World War II Veteran. Ralph taught at West Brooklyn and Morton, IL before moving to Moline in 1945 to teach at John Deere Junior High. He went on to teach at Moline High School and finished his career as a guidance counselor, retiring in 1973 after 38 years. He was a long time member of First Lutheran Church, Moline, volunteered in various capacities and was active in Lutheran Churchmen. He and his wife were active in Illinois Retired Teachers Association, and the Moline Education Association. They enjoyed playing cards and being with friends at the Moline Senior Center. Following his retirement, Ralph & Helen were able to enjoy many trips including Alaska, Europe, and other destinations throughout the United States. Family was very important to Ralph. He was especially proud to attend the graduations of both of his children and three of his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling to visit with various family members. In recent years, Ralph heard from a number of students expressing gratitude for the impact he had on their lives. He was a quiet, humble man with a true servant's heart. He will be remembered as both a gentleman and a gentle man. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was a member and former past-president of Moline Aerie #1112 in Moline, a member of the Willard L. Velie, Jr. VFW Post #2153, the Svithoid Club in Moline and the Friends Circle Club of Moline. Melvin also enjoyed the time spent having a good time camping, fishing and bowling with family and friends.
