Wayne Ammons

HAMILTON, Ill. - Wayne Ammons, 94, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, in his home.
He was born July 16, 1910, in Seymour, the son of Fred and Fern Miller Ammons.
He married
Doris Free on Sept. 19, 1932, in Unionville, Mo. She preceded him in death.
He was a longtime resident of Wever. He owned and operated Waynes 66 Service Station for nearly 20 years in Wever.
Survivors include: a son, Wayne Ammons Jr. of Mission Viejo, Calif.; two daughters, Delores Van Horn of Urbandale, and Patricia Suter of Hamilton; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by an infant son, two sisters and two brothers.
Graveside committal services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Iconium cemetery in Iconium.
There will be no visitation.
Greaves Mortuary of Keokuk is in charge of arrangements.

Wilson B. Hubbard
Wilson B. Hubbard, son B. Hubbard, 88, of the Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy, Ill., and formerly of West Point, Ill., died at 7:28 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, in the Veterans Home.
He was born June 22, 1916, in Colusa, Ill., the son of George W. and Florence M. Blythe Hubbard.
He married
Opal Waneta Heaton on July 6, 1940, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 1978. He then married
Marian Louise Philp Becker on Aug. 22, 1981, in Burlington. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1997.
He graduated from Colusa High School, Colusa, Ill.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He loved farming and farmed in the West Point area for about 25 years. He was a leader for several years for the St. Albans Pioneer 4-H Club.
He was a member of the Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter, Ill.
Survivors include: three sons, Howard G. Hubbard and his wife, Sharon, of Hull, Ill., Martin S. Hubbard and his wife, Jane, of Jesup, and James W. Hubbard of Stillwell, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Leona Byers and her husband, Jim, of Burlington; two stepsons, Ross Becker of Bonaparte, and Joe Becker of Burlington; a sister, Thelma Edstrom of Billings, Mont.; 11 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a grandson, Howard; three brothers, Raymond, Wesley and Quentin Hubbard; and two sisters, Mabel Specht and Esther Mae Yocum.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage, Ill., with the Rev. Terry Rankin officiating.
Burial will be in the Bethlehem Church cemetery.
Visitation is today at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
A memorial has been established for the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
Marie Patterson
HAMILTON, Ill. - Marie Patterson, 89, a longtime resident of Hamilton, Ill., died at 2:31 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton.
Timothy F. Peters
March 16, 1964 Nov. 10, 2004
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Timothy F. Peters, 40, of San Antonio, Texas, and formerly of Hamilton, Ill., died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, in his home.
He was born on March 16, 1964, in Quincy, Ill., the son of Linda Ruhs Rose and Harold Peters.
He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1982. He attended college and worked in several cities. He obtained culinary art/hotel management degrees in St. Louis and Houston, Texas.
Most recently, he was employed as a chef at Sea World Resort in San Antonio.
He loved to cook, read and enjoyed life. He was loved and will be missed.
Survivors include: his mother of Hamilton; his father and stepmother, Harold and Joan Peters of Alexandria, Mo.; three brothers, Vic Peters of Columbia, Mo., Virgil Peters and his wife, Linda, of Quincy, and Brad Peters and his wife, Sara, of Hudson, Ill.; a sister, Valarie Schonarth of Quincy; his grandmothers, Mary Ruhs of Hamilton, and Mayme Peters of Quincy; and many aunts, uncles and cousins, including Nancy Ruhs Gray and her husband, Phil, and Paul Gray of Tulsa, Okla.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton.
Visitation with family is after 5 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the service.

Joel Marvin Roth

DENVER, Ill. - Joel Marvin Roth, 77, of Denver, Ill., died at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born on June 21, 1925, in Warsaw, Ill., the son of Jodie and Fannie Stafford Roth. He married
Fannie Stahl Dickinson on Nov. 3, 1948, in Kansas City, Mo. She preceded him in death in 1975 in California. He raised five stepchildren and a stepgrandson while living in California. He married
Betty Jean Glines Rhoer on June 21, 1989, in Kahoka, Mo. She survives.
Additional survivors include: stepchildren (children of Fannie Stahl Dickinson Roth), Eldon Dickinson of California, Butch Dickinson, Phyllis Fernandez and Gena M. York, all of Vancouver, Wash., and Carol Sue Jones of California; a stepgrandson, Rick Dickinson of California; stepchildren (children of Betty Jean Glines Rhoer Roth), Mary Lou Norris of Honolulu, Hawaii, Carol (and Sean) Walker of Bowen, Ill., Donna Leffler of Warsaw, Ill., and Danny Harmon of Keokuk; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Zelma Newlan, Goldie Gray, Esther Clark; and brothers, Eldon, Floyd and Jack Roth.
He was called to the service during World War II from 1944 to 1949, at the age of 18. He left Europe in 1949 as Staff Sgt. of the U.S. 3rd Division 756th Tank Battalion. He drove tanks in five different countries, Germany, Italy, France, North and South Africa and Australia. He also drove tanks in Belgium and Luxemburg.
Mr. Roth was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
He had lived in California and worked as a heavy equipment operator for Operating Engineers for 40 years.
He had battled cancer for 10 years.
Funeral services were today at Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton, with the Rev. Jerry Goodrich officiating.
Burial with full military honors was held at the National cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation was today at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established.
Bernice Louise Damron

BASCO, Ill. - Bernice Louise Damron, 85, of Basco, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003.
She was born on July 30, 1917, in Warsaw, Ill., to Oscar and Caroline Zimmer Schilling. At age two, upon her mothers passing, she lived most of the time with relatives in Seward, Neb., until age six at which time her father remarried
Henrietta Braun in Warsaw. She married
William Orville Damron of Basco, Ill., on Aug. 14, 1941, at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Warsaw. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1985.
Survivors include: three sons, John Milton Damron (wife Debbie) of Ottawa, Ill., Richard Alan Damron of Springfield, Ill., and James David Damron of Basco; a grandson, Derek William Damron and granddaughter, Carleigh Marise Damron, also of Ottawa; a brother, Harold (Rex) Schilling of Burlington; sisters-in-laws, Dorothy Schilling of Warsaw, and Elizabeth Damron of Endwell, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She also was preceded in death by an infant son, William S., at birth on June 13, 1942; her two oldest brothers, Herman Schilling (wife Helen) and Eugene Schilling; and a brother-in-law, David H. Damron.
She returned to Warsaw after her father remarried
, attending Warsaw elementary and Warsaw High School, graduating in 1935.
She and her husband established their home in Basco where she remained a resident the rest of her life.
During World War II she traveled with her husband during his Navy training in the United States, returning to Basco when he was assigned to a ship in the Pacific.
She worked at various secretarial positions while her husband was in the Navy and participated in the family business, Damron Radio and Damron Insurance Agency, in addition to being a full-time mother and homemaker.
She enjoyed her membership and participation with the Basco Walking Club and the Basco Pinochle Club of which she was a member of 61 years, as well as various community events and functions.
She was devoted to her family and church, enjoyed her flowers, garden, birds, especially Cardinals and Eagles, wildlife, local travel, music and her many friends. In addition, she was the perpetual friend of unfortunate kitties in need of a home and loving care. She shared with her family and friends, a great sense of humor.
Mrs. Damron was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Warsaw. Since her marriage in 1941, she had attended the First Baptist Church in Basco, where she was active in the Amoma Class and other church activities. Most recently she had attended joint services at the Basco United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage, with the Rev. Mary Gates officiating.
Burial will be in the South cemetery, Basco.
Friends may call the funeral home after 1 p.m. Friday, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Basco or Hancock Blessing Hospice.
George C. Fleck

WARSAW, Ill. - George C. Fleck, 86, a lifelong resident of Warsaw, Ill., died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
He was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Warsaw, the son of George and Amelia Scheffel Fleck.
He married
Gladys Nagel Sept. 11, 1938, in Keokuk. She survives.
Additional survivors include: two sons, George H. Fleck and his wife, Janice of Keokuk and Stanley Fleck and his wife Phyllis of Hamilton, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Ronald, Kevin, Matt and Lindsay.
Mr. Fleck grew up in Warsaw, attended Warsaw schools and graduated from Warsaw High School.
He farmed in the Warsaw area, was employed by Steel Castings in Keokuk and was an assistant rural mail carrier.
He was a former member of the saddle club and loved working with horses and enjoyed trading them.
Mr. Fleck was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Warsaw.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Concordia Lutheran Church, Warsaw, with the Rev. Paul L. Beisel officiating.
Burial will be in Concordia Lutheran cemetery.
Visitation is today at the Lamporte Funeral Home in Warsaw, with family meeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church.
Viola Ruth Reed

CARTHAGE, Ill. - Viola Ruth Reed, 88, a lifetime Carthage, Ill., area resident died at 7:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, in her home.
She was born Nov. 14, 1915, in LaHarpe, Ill., a daughter of Clinton Ellis and Ethel Schroder Sheets. On Dec. 24, 1940, in the home of her parents in rural LaHarpe, she was married
to Floyd D. Reed. He preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1994.
She went to LaHarpe schools and graduated from Western Academy.
Mrs. Reed taught country school and then primary grades at Lincoln School in Carthage for many years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ Church in Carthage since 1942, where she taught the Lookout Sunday School class for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Reed was also a member of the CWF for many years.
Survivors include: a daughter, Dottie Ludwig and John Chaplin of Keokuk; a son, Lee Reed and his wife, Lynn, of Austin, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Mae Sheets of Carthage; five grandchildren, Lance Reed and Julie of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Lane and Shelly Reed of Austin, Shane Stair of Keokuk, Andrea Stair and Jeff of Kahoka, Mo., Chad Ludwig of Keokuk; six great-grandchildren; two nephews, Clinton (Melody) Reed of Washington, Ill., and Randy (Judy) Reed of Carthage; and a niece, Betty Reed of Carthage.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Reed.
Graveside funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Moss Ridge cemetery in Carthage with Rev. Beth Rupe officiating.
Friends may call Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage today, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
