CLARA McDANIEL

Mt. Vernon - Clara G. McDaniel, 92, died at 3:05 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, in the Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Burial will be in Zion Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Logan Sreet Baptist Church Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon where she was a member, and will be received at the funeral home at any time.

Mrs. McDaniel was born Oct. 10, 1910, in Jefferson County, the daughter of James "Abe" Lisenby and Eva Lena (Howard) Lisenby.

She married Golie McDaniel and was a housewife. He preceded her in death on January 21, 1973.

Survivors include a son, Robert R. "Bob" McDaniel and wife Pauline of Benton; two grandchildren, Jeff McDaniel and wife Brenda of Mt. Vernon, and Tracie Downey and husband Bob of Mt. Vernon; three great-grandchildren, Michelle and Scott McDaniel and Robbie Downey; sister, Gladys Simmons of Texico; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, two brothers, Howard Lisenby and Morris Lisenby, and three sisters, Jewel Roberson, Nora Hickey, and Dorothy Alvis, preceded her in death.

CHARLES RAY SIMMONS

Benton - Charles Ray Simmons, 77, died at 10:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, in his home.

Graveside services, with Military Rites, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Block P, with the Rev. Glenn Smith officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Poulson Funeral Home in Benton.

Memorials may be made to Southern Illinois Hospice. Envelopes will be provided. His wishes were to donate his body for medical research.

Mr. Simmons was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Benton, the son of Harold O. and Allie Jane (Moss) Simmons. He was married to Geraldine "Geri" (Bridges) Simmons, and she survives in Benton.

Mr. Simmons was a retired trainer of race horses.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation in 1943 and served during World War II.

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post No. 280.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Michael Charles Simmons, Jupiter, Fla., Andy and wife Christine, Davey, Fla., and Christopher Scott, Orlando, Fla; daughter, Lillian Dawn Goodson, Jupiter, Fla.; grandchildren Charles Ray Simmons II, Seattle, Wash., Natalie and Andrew Goodson, Jupiter, Fla and Madison Marie, Davey, Fla.; one uncle with the very special nickname of the Godfather, E.W. and wife Pauline Simmons, Benton; one aunt Violet Brown, Springfield, Mo.; stepchildren Linda and Art Case, Galesburg, Ill., Doug and Kathy Collins, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Jeff Collins, Benton.

Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his grandparents O.A. and Mary Simmons, parents, one son David Ray Simmons who died March 8, 2003, sister Elsie Fay Simmons, uncles Carrolton, Gene, Raymond, Holland, Lowell, Hartsell and his father's twin Merril Simmons, and aunts Pearl Jester, Gale Simmons and Virginia Black.

"God grant me serenity and wisdom."

CHARLES 'JOE' REDNOUR

Christopher - Charles "Joe" Rednour, 56, died at 10:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at the Carbondale Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Percy Village Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Those attending should meet at the Cemetery in Percy. The Gilbert Funeral Home of Christopher, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rednour was born on April 7, 1947, in Chester, the son of Rosco and Anna Mae (Shell) Rednour. He was married to the former Susan Kay Bourland on Nov. 10, 1978, in Percy. She survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Teresa Pettway of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters, Audry Lattina of East Carondelet, Retha Stell of Bakersfield.

Mr. Rednour was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Mary Rice.

AGATHA (SAMPLES) PRESTON

Formerly Zeigler - Agatha (Samples) Preston, 85, of Stockbridge, Ga., formerly of Zeigler, died at 2:15 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at the Henry Medical Center in Stockbridge.

Agatha was born August 20, 1917 in Bardwell, Ky. to Boyd and Delia (Deweese) Samples.

She married Charles Phillip Preston August 20, 1938 in Kentucky. He preceded her in death March 16, 1985.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Roy Buice of Stockbridge, Ga.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Boyd and Sandra Preston of Wilder, Ky. and James and Sherry Preston of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Her parents and a brother, James Samples also preceded him in death.

Mrs. Preston was a member of the North Henry Baptist Church in Stockbridge, Ga. and was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Zeigler.

Funeral services for Mrs. Preston will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Zeigler with James and Boyd Preston officiating. Burial will be at Zeigler Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home and after 9 a.m., Saturday at the church until the hour of the services.

NORMA LEE JONES

Benton - Norma Lee Jones, 72, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at the Franklin Hospital, Benton.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton, with the Rev. Mark Minor officiating. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday to the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Whittington Baptist Church, the MS Society, or to the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers.

Norma was born on Oct. 17, 1930, in Benton, the daughter of Stan and Jane (Tackitt) Jones.

She had been a resident of Benton Healthcare Center.

She had lived in rural Benton for 68 years, prior to being a nursing home resident. A member of the Whittington Baptist Church, she had been a teacher and Training Union Director. A school teacher, she had taught Home Economics in Waltonville, Thebes and Cooter, Mo.

Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Kieler of East Peoria, Karen Jones of Benton; one brother, Lawrence Jones of Trenton.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and by one brother, Howard M. Jones.

GAY LANCE

Sesser - Gay Lance, 62, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, in her daughter's home in Orlando, Fla.

She was born April 2, 1941, in Franklin County.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser, with Brother Tim Melvin officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. this evening to the funeral home.

EVELYN D. OWENS

Christopher - Evelyn D. Owens, 85, died at her home on Friday, Aug. 15, 2003.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, in the Gilbert Funeral Home, Christopher, with the Rev. Harl Ray Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery, Buckner. Friends may call after 6 p.m. this evening to the funeral home.

Mrs. Owens was born on April 5, 1918, the daughter of Henry and Lula (Myers) Dare. married to William Howard Owens, she was of the Baptist faith.

She was a retired accountant and teacher.

Survivors include four children, Jim Fiorenzi of Centralia; Don Fiorenzi, Benton; Brenda Joiner, Valier; David Owens, Christopher; six grandchildren, Tom Fiorenzi, Highland, Angela and Jerry Polen of Jacksonville, Fla, Christopher and Julia Fiorenzi, Weatherford, TX, Clint and Toni Joiner, Valier, Trevor and Travis Joiner, both of Valier; six great-grandchildren; one sister, June Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Howard Owens, and one brother, Paul T. Dare.

LENA VISSIO

Formerly Christopher - Lena Vissio, 91, formerly of Christopher, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, in Chesterfield, Mich.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, officiated by Father Steven Poole. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Christopher. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service, at the funeral home.

Miss Vissio was born July 21, 1912, in Christopher, the daughter of John and Madelina (Dotta) Vissio.

A retired telephone operator, Miss Vissio was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church.

She is survived by two nephews, John and Anita Savio of Michigan and John and Mary Agnes Youchoff of Tennessee, and one niece, Jane Youchoff of West Frankfort. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Michael, and two sisters, Anna Savio and Margaret Youchoff.

JUNE D. KUBA

Benton - June D. Kuba, 84, formerly of Livingston, Ill., died at 3:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Monday at the Lesicko Funeral Home in Livingston, with the Rev. Maurice Alms officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. Visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kuba was born Dec. 22, 1918 in Olive Township, Livingston, the daughter of Ralph and Oral (Rankin) L'Hommedieu. She married Steve Kuba on Sept. 30, 1936 in Edwardsville, Ill. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1992.

Mrs. Kuba was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Livingston.

Mrs. Kuba is survived by two sons, Stephen F. Kuba and his fiancee, Julie Walker, Benton, and Bryson Kuba, Malakoff, Texas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bryson L'Hommedieu, Klamath Falls, Ore., and Everett L'Hommedieu, Brentwood, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Everett Kuba at birth, and Robert Kuba, brothers, Frank, Lester, Ralph, Jean and Robert L'Hommedieu, and one sister, Marie Schmitz.

Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Livingston, Ill., or Good Samaritan Hospice in Mt. Vernon.

VICKI PERRY

Christopher - Vicki Perry, 57, of Christopher died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at home.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Christopher, officiated by Father Steven Poole. Burial will be in St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher.

Mrs. Perry was born June 30, 1946, in Christopher, the daughter of Dick and Princie (Reynolds) Minor. She was married to Paul Perry on June 17, 1968, in Christopher. Mr. Perry died May 7, 2003.

Mrs. Perry was an employee of Cousin Fred's in Benton. She was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Christopher. Also, she attended Southern Illinois University, was a former township supervisor from 1992-96, public relations with Belleville Diocese, past secretary to Chicago Providence President, and vice president of Catholic Daughters in Du Quoin.

She is survived by both parents; children Pat and Lori Perry of Waltonville; grandchildren, Kyle P. Perry, Kaleigh Perry and Ian Perry; stepchildren, Hanna Gartner of Mulkeytown and Kyle Mitchell of Benton; and brother, Jeff Minor of Christopher.
