HELEN MARGARET VAN HORN
Benton - Helen Margaret Van Horn, 89, formerly of Benton, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at the Paradise Manor, Marion.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, with the Revs. Tony Auxier and Phillip Irby officiating. Burial was at the Swofford Cemetery, east of Benton.
Mrs. Van Horn was born November 11, 1910 in Devil's Lake, N.D., the daughter of Omer and Millie (Haithcoat) Jones. She first married Willard Smith in 1930 and he died in 1947. She later married Delmar Kearney in 1951 and he died in 1960. She married Rev Van Horn in 1970 and he died on Dec. 31, 1997.
She was a retired seamstress and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Benton Eastern Star, a member of the Benton Womans Club, Home Extension, and North Benton Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Nelda Parks, Marion, Georgianne Bennett, Somerset, Ky.; two sons, Tommy Smith Goshen, Ohio, David Kearney, Scurry, Texas; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two brothers, Harold and Holt Jones, two sisters, Vaishtie Tripp and Hazel Irby, two grandsons, Willard Nelson Smith and Matthew David Kearney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
JEAN SHANK
Dunedin, Florida - Jean Shank, 76, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at the Mease Dunedin Hospital.
Services were held in the Curlew Hills Funeral Home in Palm Habor, Florida.
She was born in Benton, and moved to Florida from Danville.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Cloyd A. Shank; a son, Cloyd A. Jr., Dunedin; her mother, Lizzie Biddle, Benton; three sisters, Lucille Wilkerson, Holiday, Florida, Betty June Davis of Benton and Marietta Waller, Thompsonville; three grandchildren.
HELEN MAE PINKHAM
Christopher - Helen Mae Pinkham, 84, died at 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 at her home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, at Gilbert Funeral Home with Brother Paul Wayne Purdie officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery in Buckner. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pinkham was born on May 29, 1916, in Christopher, the daughter of Thomas and Hazel (Cook) Bacon. She married Elbert Logan Pinkham, who preceded her in death in 1957.
Mrs. Pinkham was employed by Selmer-Peerless and also by the Elgin State Hospital.
She was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church.
Mrs. Pinkham is survived by her children, Marion Thomas and wife Karen Pinkham, Galesburg, Carl Gene and wife Dolores Pinkham, Christopher, Evelyn J. and husband Robert E. Swisher, Coello, Wilma and husband Larry Hammel, Du Quoin, Allen D. and wife Heather Pinkham, Mulkeytown, Jane and husband Lou Pivarski, Chicago; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mary Hughes, Mulkeytown, Imogene Groves, Mulkeytown and Nora and husband Vernon Downen, Kirkland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, one brother and one grandson.
BARBARA JEAN JOHNSON HEINZ
Formerly of Whittington
Barbara Jean Johnson Heinz, 62, formerly of Whittington, died suddenly in Fargo, N.D. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Morton and Johnston Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery.
She was born in Whittington on April 1, 1938, the daughter of Raymond and Hattie Johnson.
She is survived by her brother Marvin Johnson, sister Viva Doster, Hobe Sound, Fla., and daughter Margarett Sue Christian and five grandchildren, all of Kenosha, Wisc.
She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Valerie Peterson.
NELLLIE L. PIOVESON
West City - Nellie L. Pioveson, 78, died at 10:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2000 at the Franklin Skilled Care in Benton.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton, with the Rev. Kenneth E. Price officiating. There will be no visitation. The Morton & Johnston Funeral Home of Benton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pioveson was born on Dec. 4, 1921 in Benton, the daughter of Chalon and Ollie Pearl (Walker) Smith.
She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in West City, and a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Pioveson of West City; one son, Brad Pioveson and wife Sharon of Benton; one granddaughter, Michelle Nuernberger of Bamberg, Germany; two great-grandchildren, Sean and Kylee; two brothers, Herbert Smith of West City, Clyde Mandrell of Marion; one sister, Mabel Roe of Lebanon.
Her parents, and one brother, Chalon Howard Smith, preceded her in death.
JOHN G. WHITTIER
Benton - John G. Whittier, 86, of 603 N. Commercial Street, died at 5:35 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000 at the Good Samaritan Regional Health Center, Mt. Vernon.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, with the Rev. Philip Ingle officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Whittier was born on April 6, 1914, in Wales, Tenn., the son of Harry and Mabel Whittier. He married the former Ida Marie Williams on March 19, 1937, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 1990.
He was a truck driver, having worked for both the Hayes Trucking Company and Spector Freight Company. He was a World War II Army veteran and attended the First Baptist Church, Benton.
Survivors include a son, George and wife Pat of Belleville; two daughters, Earla of Benton, Cathy and husband Kingsley, of Ewing; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen and Margie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the First Baptist Church, Benton, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
EMMA CHESNEY MYERS
Bonnie - Emma Chesney Myers, died at 6:33 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2000 in the Good Samaritan Regional Health Center, Mt. Vernon.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at the Bonnie United Church, with the Revs.
John Neace and Daren Durey officiating. Burial was in the Kirk Cemetery, Ina. The Johnston Funeral Home in Ina was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Myers was born on March 22, 1912 in Bonnie, the daughter of W.A. and Nancy Lou (Adams) Hale.
She was retired from the Mode O Day Garment Factory.
She was a member of the Bonnie United Methodist Church and the Mt. Vernon American Legion Auxiliary
Survivors include two daughters, Louise Howard and husband Bob of West Frankfort, Mary Ellen (LeVault) Hoppes of West Frankfort; grandchildren, Robbie Howard of Florida, Richie Howard of Marion, Ron Howard of West Frankfort, Mike LeVault of West Frankfort, Bill LeVault and Debbie Pineda of Loveland, Colorado; and Sue Hub of St. Johns, Ind.; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and three brothers.
WILLIAM G. McNARY
Washington - William G. McNary, 72, died at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Peoria.
A Memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, at the Roland Manor Baptist Church, with Pastor Steve Hardin and Pastor Bill Carter officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thompsonville at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. Deiters Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McNary was born on June 27, 1928, in West Frankfort, the son of William and Jessie (Isaacs) McNary. He married Madge E. Sweet on April 18, 1953, in West Frankfort. She survives.
He worked in the research department for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 36 years before retiring in 1982, and was a member of the Roland Manor Baptist Church in Washington.
He was a Drill Sergeant in the Army serving in the Korean Conflict from Nov. 3, 1950 to Nov. 3, 1952.
In addition to his wife Madge, he is survived by two sons, Mark and wife Tammy of Lafayette, Ind., Nathan D. McNary and wife Audrey of Mapleton; three daughters Michele Vlahovich and husband Ty of Chillicothe; Melanie Hayes and husband Timothy of Walcott, Iowa; Ramona McNary of North Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Dolly McNary of Thompsonville and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one granddaughter.

KENNETH E. HALL
Henderson - Kenneth E. Hall, 62, formerly of Monmouth, died at 5:10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000 in the Cottage Hospital in Galesburg.
Services will be held Monday, Dec. 4 at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth with the Rev. Mike Blake officiating. Burial will be in the Monmouth Cemetery. His family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. A Memorial fund is being established for Maple City Baptist Church in Monmouth where Mr. Hall was a member.
Mr. Hall was born on June 5, 1938, in rural Benton, the son of Charlie and Iva (Williams) Hall.
He was married on July 25, 1958, in Benton, to Wondola "Wendy" Hays. She survives.
He worked in the Heating and Plumbing business for a number of years and had retired due to bad health. He was also a musician who played guitar and steel guitar from the age of 17. He had recorded two singles in Nashville. An avid Cardinal fan, he was a member of the Moose Lodge in Galesburg and a charter member of the Monmouth Eagles.
In addition to his wife Wondola of Henderson, he is survived by two sons, Kevin W. Hall and wife Belinda of Monmouth, Dennis R. Hall and wife Laura of Muscatine, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel, Kevin, Dennette, David, and Samuel; one great-granddaughter, Lyric; three sisters, Wanda Adcock and husband Jim of Janesville, Wisc.; Joann Stikes, La Donna Long and husband Ted, all of Benton; two brothers, Charles Hall of San Diego, Calif. and Dale Hall and wife Linda of Monmouth.
His parents and one brother, Larry, preceded him in death.
WANDA L. HAYSE
Benton - Wanda L. Hayse, 76, died at the Franklin Skilled Care Unit at 8:25 a.m. today, Friday, Dec. 1, 2000.
