Velma E. Morgan
Velma E. Morgan, 97, of Burley, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Parke View Care & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Giarard, Kansas, on March 1, 1906. She was the daughter of Vernon E. and Nellie Riling Morgan. When she was five-years-old, she moved with her family to Twin Falls, where they lived on a homestead farm. She graduated from Twin Falls High School, attended Albion State Normal, and then graduated from the University of Idaho.
She began her teaching career in Malad, and then to Rupert. She later moved to California, where she earned a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California. She then taught Business at El Segundo High School until her retirement. Upon retiring, she moved back to Burley to be near her family.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burley. Velma loved her life in California, and was forever loyal to the USC Trojans. She loved all sports, watched football, baseball, and golf on T.V., and even knew the names of many of the players. She traveled extensively in her younger years and blessed her nieces and nephew with much love and lavish presents. She enjoyed shopping and in later years was a great catalog customer. She wrote cards and letters to her friends with beautiful left-handed penmanship. She accepted life as it was handed to her with poise and grace. She was a special lady and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by one brother, Wm. J. (Ruth) Morgan of Burley, and several nieces and one nephew.
A private family service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, with the Rev. Dr. John A. Rakestraw of the Burley First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
KENNETH LEE CHRISTIANSEN
TWIN FALLS - Kenneth Lee Christiansen, 42-year-old Twin Falls and former Burley resident, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, near Arco, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born May 21, 1961, in Burley, the son of Dean Christiansen and Bobbie Wake Larsen. He attended schools in Burley. He married Karen Miller and they were later divorced. He worked as a salesman at Latham Motor in Twin Falls. Kenneth was a Harley enthusiast and was a member of the Harley Club. He loved to hunt and take trips to Sturgis with his buddies.
Survivors include his mother, Bobbie (Bob) Larsen of Burley; his father, Dean Christiansen of Ogden, Utah; two daughters, Katie Ann Christiansen and Kylie Joe Christiansen, both of Twin Falls; three sisters, Robin Hylton of Paul, Sherry Rasmussen of Rupert, and Joan Larsen of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two brothers, Scott Christiansen of Heyburn and Gerald Larsen of St. Anthony. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jay and Thora Wake of Burley and his paternal grandparents, Henry and Etta Mae Christiansen of Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at the Payne Memorial Chapel, 221 West Main Street in Burley. Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral on Thursday.
REV. NICHOLAS B. RAUSCH
LACEY, Wash. - Rev. Nicholas B. Rausch O.S.B., 74, passed away in Lacey Wash. on August 5, 2003. He was born Bernard Joseph on Nov. 29, 1928 to Charles and Marie Henschied Rausch.
Bernard attended schools in Rupert, graduating with the class of 1947. After two years at St. Martin's College in Olympia, he entered the Benedictine seminary at St. Martin's Abbey. His theology studies were at the Benediction Monestery in Mt. Angel, Ore. He was ordained a priest in the Catholic Church in Seattle in May, 1956.
He taught high school boys at St. Martin's High School for many years until they closed their doors.
After further studies he began teaching on the college level at St. Martin's College. Speech and debate were his favorite subjects.
He was active in the Knights of Columbus organization of Lacey and Olympia as chaplain. He loved music and especially making his own music, playing different instruments from guitar and harmonica to accordion, banjo and wood flute instruments. He was also an avid golfer.
He is survived by his sisters, Sr. Dorothy (Anna Mae Rausch), Sr. Christine (Genevieve Rausch), Sr. Regina (Regina Rausch, all of Mt. Angel, Ore., and Gertrude (Ernest) Stuart of Rupert; nephews Tom Stuart and Bill Stuart; and nieces, Colleen Dobbins, Julie Sparrow, Beth Beck and Rosella Stuart.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Services will be Monday, Aug. 11, at the Abbey Church with interment in the Abbey cemetery.
Dorothy M. Ramsey
Rupert - Dorothy Melvina Ramsey, 81, of Rupert, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at the Minidoka Memorial Hospital's Extended Care Facility in Rupert.
She was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Pomona, Howell County, Mo., the daughter of Oscar Lee and Anna Lucile Soots Ramsey. She received her education in Missouri and Rupert, graduating from Rupert High School in 1940. She married Roy Dale Ramsey on November 15, 1943, in Elko, Nev. Following marriage, they lived in Burley for a short time prior to moving to Rupert where she has since resided.
Together, she and Roy farmed. They also operated the Minidoka Beet Dump for many years. Dorothy worked at Magic Valley Foods briefly before serving as a Dietician at Minidoka Memorial Hospital for more than 16 years.
She was a member of the Rupert United Methodist Church and past member of the Rupert Grange.
She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery work, playing pinochle and working word puzzles. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and enjoyed time spent with her family.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Danny (Ann) Ramsey of Rupert, and Ron (Debbie) Ramsey of Boise; one brother, Donald (Ruth) Ramsey of West Plains, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Dwight Ramsey of Rupert; one granddaughter, Sueanna (Steven) Hyde of Heyburn; two step-grandchildren, Sarah and Nathan and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Bruce Edward Ramsey; and one grandson, Danny Dale Ramsey, Jr.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at the Rupert United Methodist Church, 605 H Street, with the Rev. Keith Wise officiating. Burial will be in the Rupert Cemetery.

Frederick Duaine Parish
Frederick Duaine Parish, born in Elba, April 18, 1915, died on Aug. 3, 2003, in Gig Harbor, Wash.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie; his five children, Penelope Barrow, Christopher (Connie), Kathleen, Pamela (Miles Struxness), and Timothy (Gail); his grandchildren Joseph and Shawn Barrow, Amie Beerbower, Duffy Parish, Allegra and Jacob Levine; two great grandchildren, Linsey and Evan Beerbower; his sister Lorayne; and three brothers, Troy, Clair, and Robert.
He arrived in Gig Harbor in the late 1930s and began his teaching career with the Peninsula School District. He soon met, fell in love with, and married Marjorie Kathleen Ryan of Gig Harbor.
He retired in 1973 after many years as principal of Gig Harbor Intermediate/Goodman Middle School. Duaine was a kind and gentle man, an avid gardener, a loving father, a devoted husband, and a loyal friend to many. He will be sorely missed.
His family will share stories and memories of his life at the Rosedale Community Hall, 8205 86th Ave. NW, Gig Harbor, WA, on August 10, 2003, from 3 to 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma or charity of choice.
Richard L. McLaws
Heyburn - Richard Lee McLaws, 59, of Heyburn, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.
He was born June 11, 1944, in Burley, the son of Willis Wayne and Lula May Platt McLaws. He received his education in Burley. He married Belinda Farwell in 1967 and they were later divorced. He then married Marie Fox Barnett in April of 1980, in Rupert.
Richard was a lifelong resident of the Mini-Cassia area. He worked for Ore-Ida Foods as a foreman and supervisor, prior to working as a truck driver and supervisor/dispatcher for the J.R. Simplot Company.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially loved to go camping. He enjoyed drag racing and doing mechanical work on motors.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Marie McLaws of Heyburn; his children, Michael McLaws of Paul, Katherine McLaws of Burley, Jacqueline (Davin) Clegg of Burley, and Kristyna (Gabriel) Reyes of Heyburn; his siblings, Dwaine (Diane) McLaws of Weiser, Sandy Bendele, Julie (Phil) Weech, and Darlena (Jeff) Mai all of Burley; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 East 16th Street, Burley, with Bishop Steven Pearson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery
in Heyburn.

Fred T. Larson
Freddie Tolman Larson, 90, long time Burley resident, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at the Vista Care Center in Acequia of causes incident to age.
Fred was born April 26, 1913, in Oakley, the son of Fredrick William Larson and Mary Alice Tolman. He grew up on a small Oakley farm as the oldest son of 12 living children and took on added responsibility at age 16 when his father died and Fred had to help his widowed mother sustain the family.
After graduating from Oakley High School he moved to Burley to work for Pixton's Ice Cream Company and later in his own roofing business. A self-taught and skillful builder, Fred's hard work is evident today on countless tile roofs and homes throughout the area.
Fred married LaVerne Preston in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 30, 1940, and they became the parents of five children: Linda, Kent, Renee', Kris, and Bryon.
Always active in the LDS Church, Fred served as bishop of the Burley Second Ward from 1954 to 1959, and he and LaVerne were Burley Stake dance directors for many years. With his wife, Fred served two full-time missions for the Church in Holbrook, Ariz., and at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City. Faithful to the end, Fred was a primary teacher at age 88.
Fred and LaVerne spent many happy years wintering in their home in Mesa, Ariz., and traveling to China, Mexico, Panama, and the United States, returning to Burley every summer to continue gardening and building projects. Even into his late eighties, Fred never stopped working. After suffering a stroke in December 2002, he spent his remaining months at the Vista Care Center until his death.
He is survived by four children: Linda (Dick) Beauvais, Taipei, Taiwan; Bryon (Susann) Larson, Cedar Hills, Utah; Kent (Lynne) and Kris (Dorothea) Larson, both of Burley, along with two brothers, two sisters, 18 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife LaVerne in 2000, his daughter Renee' in 1996, his parents, and nine brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2003, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Star First and Second Ward Chapel, 100 South 200 West, Burley, with Bishop Chad Jones officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
