Brenda Greenwalt Vaughn
Brenda Joyce Vaughn, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at her home in Anderson, Calif.
Brenda was born July 2, 1961, in Hugo, Okla., to Johnnie L. and Montais Greenwalt (their sixth child of eight children). Born with cerebral palsy, she had to endure multiple surgeries because of the CP but did not let it prevent her from living life to the max.
In 1968, after many moves, the Greenwalt family settled in Myrtle Creek, Ore. Brenda attended the South Umpqua schools. She met her husband to be, Wyndle Eugene Vaughn, Jr., when he moved in down the street from her home in early 1979. They were married Dec. 9, 1979. A year later their only child, Tricia Shawnell was born.
She was the queen of dates and numbers having a phenomenal memory for dates and numbers. Wanda Vaughn (mother-in-law) wants all concerned to know that Brenda was very much a daughter to her, was loved very deeply, and will be missed horribly. Brenda was intensely committed to her family, feeling their joys and pain equally. Everyone watching would see her countenance light up when she was around her grandsons. Brenda is our first family death and she is sorely missed.
She is survived by her husband, Wyndle Eugene Vaughn; her daughter, Tricia Shawnell Vaughn (husband - Joshua Brown) of Redding, Calif.; parents, Johnnie L. and Montais Greenwalt of Heyburn; siblings, J. L. (Janie) Greenwalt of Rupert, Maybell (Nelson) Wright of Roswell, N.M., Martha (David) Bragg of Newburg, Ore., Jimmie Pearl (Tom) VanVlack of Rupert, Sheila (Alan) Kuykendall of Caldwell, David Greenwalt of Rupert, and Judy (Eric) Pichette of Winston, Ore.; her grandsons, Andrew Eugene, Kenneth Michael, and Joseph James Brown of Redding, California; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the Rupert Cemetery
with Pastor Jay Greenwalt officiating.
Friends and family may gather at the cemetery prior to the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley.
DOROTHY L. STEELMON
Dorothy Leota Steelmon, 90-year-old Burley resident, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Parke View Care & Rehabilitation Center in Burley.
She was born March 19, 1913, in Everton, Ark., the daughter of William Franklin and Nancy E. O'Daniel Heard. She married Willard W. Steelmon on July 10, 1937, in Everton, Ark. They moved to Idaho in the spring of 1943 and she has resided in the Burley area since that time.
Dorothy worked at Ore-Ida Foods from 1959 to 1979, when she retired. Following her retirement she worked in the Foster Grandparent program from 1979 to 1999. She was on the Advisory Council for the Office of the Aging through the College of Southern Idaho. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Burley Assembly of God Christian Center, from 1944 until the time of her death. She held various positions and served diligently over the years.
Survivors include two daughters, Freda (Bill) Hutchison of Burley and Nancy K. (Richard) Kossman of Tacoma, Wash.; four sons, Willard Bryan Steelmon of Fallon, Nev., Glen (Donna) Steelman of Denver, Colo., Thelbert W. Steelmon of Carson City, Nev., and Ronald D. Steelmon; two sister, Mavis Rose of Springfield, Mo., and Cleota Heath of Arapaho, Okla.; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard in 1972; a step son, Clifford in 1992; and four sisters, Winnie Johnson, Edna Chichester, Inez Shipman, and Geneva Moore; and a brother, Cecil Heard.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at the Burley Assembly of God Christian Center, 317 West 27th St., with Pastor Randy Gardner officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery
in Burley.
Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main St., Burley on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
EDWIN S. MILLER
ESCONDIDO, Calif. - Edwin Spencer Miller, 90, formerly of Rupert, died at home with his family by his side Dec. 3, 2003, in Escondido, Calif. He lived with his daughter Brenda, son-in-law John and two grandsons, Jerid and Steven Meek.
Edwin was born Nov. 14, 1913 to Douglas and Faye Miller in Provo, Utah. He moved at age six to the Rupert area, where he lived most of his life. He was preceded in death by Hazel, his wife of 67 years, in June 2003.
Surviving Edwin is his son Douglas E. Miller Phd., East Lansing, Mich.; and daughter Brenda (Dr. John) Meek of Escondido; grandchildren, Jerid Meek, Temecula, Calif.; Steven Meek, Oceanside, Calif.; Matthew Miller, East Lansing, Mich.; Erik (Heidi) Miller, Columbia, Mo.; Heidi Miller, Columbia Mo.; and one great-grandson, Christian Miller, Columbia, Mo.
Edwin worked many jobs in his early years over the western states as a meat cutter to make more money for his family. During the depression he worked days as a meat cutter and nights at the shipyards in Portland, Ore. After the war he moved his family back to Rupert where he wanted to raise his children.
Edwin was best known as the co-owner of Foodland Super-market built in 1947 owned by himself and his grade school friend, Leon Craven. Over the years it was remodeled and enlarged twice including 600 meat lockers. He worked many long hours for many years and retired at age 62. His love during retirement was golf with friends at the Rupert Country Club. Edwin was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Shoshone and a member of the United Methodist Church in Rupert. He was best known as the meat carver for the church dinners and luncheons. He and Ward "Speck" Woolford started and cooked the Methodist men's breakfasts for years.
His beautiful wife, two children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Mr. Miller was cremated and his remains are being placed in Rupert with his late wife, Hazel. At his request no memorial service will be held. He asked in his last days that everyone in Rupert know how much he loved living there, and to also thank all of you who touched his heart and his life so deeply.
For those who desire to honor Edwin's life, memorials may be given to Alzheimer's research and Parkinson's research.
AVILON SNOW LEE
Avilon Snow Lee, one-month-old daughter of Benjamin Baxter Lee and Angela Dawn Woodbury Lee, returned to her Heavenly Father Monday, Dec. 15, 2003.
She passed away in the loving arms of her parents at her home from complications of microcephaly.
Avilon was born Nov. 11, 2003, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley. She was a perfect angel sent from Heaven to us whose sojourn here in life was but a short time, but whose love will carry on through eternity. Our special angel touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who loved and cherished her.
Survivors include her parents, Ben and Angie Lee and a brother, Paecen Benjamin Lee of Burley; her paternal grandparents, Dennis and Helen Lee of Malta; her maternal grandparents, Orin and Linda Woodbury of Burley; her maternal great grandparents, John and Ione Baxter of Perry, Utah; lots of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; including aunts, Nikki Geary and Lacey Parke, who were very special in their care for Avilon in her short time here on earth. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents and great grandparents, two uncles, and a great great aunt.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints View Ward Chapel, 550 S. 490 E. of Burley, under the direction of the View 2nd Ward Bishopric.
Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main St., Burley, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church from 1 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the funeral on Thursday. Interment will follow in the View Cemetery. The Lee and Woodbury families would like to give special thanks to Primary Children's Medical Center, Ricky Spearin of Hospice, Dr. Klett, and all their family and friends.
Leslie James Juchau
Leslie James Juchau passed away in his sleep on Monday, Dec. 15, at the age of 99.
He was born Oct. 3, 1904, in Cambridge, to James Joseph Juchau and Elizabeth Ann Newbold. He grew up in Virginia, Idaho, and attended school in Downey.
He married Freda Little on the Aug. 6, 1924, in the Logan LDS Temple and enjoyed 76 years of marriage. He farmed in the Eden area for about 50 years. He was a devoted active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Preceded him in death were his wife, Freda Little, a son, Karl Leslie Juchau, a daughter, Norma Jeanne Tolman, a granddaughter, Kerice Moffett, his parents and all his siblings.
Surviving him are his children: Paul E and Fredi Juchau of Eden, Ann and Don Moffett of Burley, Dick Tolman of Eagle Ridge, Utah, Larry and Betty Juchau of Garden Grove, California, Vern and Mary Juchau of Sugar Land, Texas; 23 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. They will all miss him.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Hazelton Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Roy Wyatt conducting. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park" and at the church on Saturday from 11:45 a.m. to 12: 45 p.m.
Alonzo Robert "Cris" Crismon
Alonzo Robert "Cris" Crismon was born May 29, 1932, in Burley to Robert W. and Clara K. Crismon.
After graduation from Burley High School, Cris hired on for Western Electric in Pocatello, Idaho until he was drafted into the Army in 1953. He attended radio school in New Jersey and was then stationed in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where he served as honor guard. He was later stationed in the radar tracking station in Oscura Peak, N.M.
Following his discharge from the Army in 1955, Cris resumed his career at Western Electric where he became an installation supervisor and worked until his retirement in 1984.
Cris met the love of his life, Shirley Briggs in 1952 in Idaho Falls and after all his travels with the Army and Western Electric they were finally able to marry on August 11, 1957. They remained best friends and soul mates for the remaining 46 years of his life.
In 1985, Cris and Shirley fulfilled their dream of retiring to their cabin in the mountains.
They spent 18 years at beautiful Terrace Lakes in Garden Valley where they enjoyed golfing and socializing with their many close friends.
In 2002, Cris and Shirley moved back to Boise where he enjoyed his new home, roses and garden until his death on Dec. 12, 2003.
Cris is survived by his wife Shirley Rae Briggs Crismon of Boise; daughter, Kelly Jefferis and grandsons, John and Anthony Jefferis of Silver Springs, Nev.
Family will accept visitors Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Summers Funeral Home, Boise Chapel.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel.
Interment to follow at Cloverdale Cemetery.
Memorial may be made to MSTI or a favorite charity.
Nancy Munoz Cabanas
Nancy Munoz Cabanas, 49-year-old Burley resident, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003.
She was born Nov. 23, 1954, in Nixon, Texas, the daughter of Marcello Munoz and Julia Soto. She attended schools in Texas and in Nevada. Her family later moved to Burley in 1964. She married Rudy Mercado in 1975 and moved to Kennewick, Wash. After her divorce she moved back to Burley in 1985. She married Valante Cabanas and resided in Burley until her death.
She was a homemaker and raised three daughters.
She liked going to Jackpot, Nev. She loved family gatherings and she enjoyed embroidering.
She is survived by her daughters, Olivia Munoz, Teresa (Noe) Martinez, and Connie Mercado; three grandchildren Hector Rojero, Mia Martinez and Mya Nancy Munoz; seven sisters, Angelita Velasquez, Elidia (Florentino) Espana, Tommy Munoz, Yolanda Munoz, Rosa Munoz, Donna Munoz and Guadelupe Guzman; three brothers, Juan Munoz, Enricke Munoz, and Benny Munoz.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the Little Flower Catholic Church, 1601 Oakley Ave., Burley, with Father Juan Garatea, Celebrant.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003 at Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel, 321 East Main St., Burley and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be at Pleasantview Cemetery.
